I'm so quick to watch it, that it isn't letting me go HD yet! I gotta slow down haha! Haven't watched it yet (waiting for the HD option) but I know it'll be good (as per usual) so you get the like anyway :D
Fact is that the Trolleybus network was outdated, and would be too costly to fix, even without the network overhaul. Plus, the rapid ongoing development of Battery-Electric buses would make a system upgrade fairly pointless, since within a decade the technology would be yesterday's news. While there are only 10 EV buses at present (11 if you count the converted trolleybus prototype), there will be more in the future. Tranzurban has plans to buy at least 22 more of the Electric Double Decker's. Plus, GWRC and NZBus are still considering their options. Things have been stalled due to the sale of NZBus from Infratil to Next Capital, but once this is completed, we should have a result. NZBus already has an order for 5 EV's for Tauranga coming from Alexander Dennis, so perhaps an ADL option will be considered, provided they can build the product to a 3-axle length. I believe that they are also working on a possible all-electric Enviro 500 product also, so there is plenty of space for NZBus to go electric down the line. More EV's might not happen now, but it will do eventually. Much of NZBus's current fleet is made up of 13-15 year old MAN's, which will need to be replaced in the next 305 years (or sooner). The next few years will be very interesting to watch.
