Established in 1989, from an endowment from the Spanish Ambassador, the Wellington Lecture, held at the University of Southampton is given each year on the aspects of the life and times of the first Duke of Wellington.
A disappointing lecture in delivery and content - Prof Ridley's understanding of where the command and control of the army lay in/by the 1840s is way off kilter. Wellington did not support greater control by the monarch; that battle had long-since been fought and won by Parliament.
