If you’ve ever worked for a large bank, it makes total sense. They actually don’t like people to stand out too much in terms of performance. Especially Wells Fargo because of the scandal from years ago. It’s very much a communist mindset do enough to be slightly above average but don’t get too far ahead or you start to arouse suspicion. The only exception for this is obviously with investment banking, which is not done with mouse clicks it’s done with intelligence, relationship building, and as you stated measuring actual output.

@wareagle8910
@wareagle8910 2 месяца назад
@@cdevidal it’s easier to understand with an example. Say a company tells their employees “hey, we’re going to start tracking the number of e-mails you send out as part of your performance reviews”. It’s inevitable that some of those emails will be phony to inflate the numbers. Like they’ll email themselves, create fake email addresses, etc. Now the number of e-mails being sent won’t be an accurate measurement because of that. Especially if that performance is directly tied to a bonus. Basically a business should only worry about results and not about metrics. Metrics should be a tool, not something job performance needs to be based on.

Got a letter in the mail from Wells Fargo saying they now owned the account, but never got a statement. Called and asked where the statements were, they said there was no account. 10 phone calls later, they said it was an "inactive account" so they sent the money to the state. Contacted the state who said they NEVER received the money. Made an appointment with a local manager, brought in the paperwork showing they had the account the letters saying they sent the money to the state& the letter from the state saying they never received the money. The manager said, all of his records which he couldn't show it give copies of said the money went to the state. Contacted the state banking commissioner, who contacted Wells Fargo, that same manager asked for another face to face, because he needed to see "the originals" ! Still took 6 months for them to send the money! Interesting thing, the money had earned compound interest, but Wells Fargo claimed the state had just "returned" the money to them😂

The real issue is that most office jobs can be completed in 6-10 hours per week unless the company saddles their employees with menial, redundant, bureaucratic busy work. It also brings to question, if someone can finish their work in 30 hours of a 40 hour work week why are they getting punished for not needing that 10 hours, but the people who take 50 hours to do the same job get 10 hours of time and a half pay?

I had a coworker who was brought on as a manager for a project that was running behind and over budget. He said he was tasked with getting it done. He talked to the guys and he was told management got bonuses for going under but they got pay cuts if it took less than 40 hours a week. So my coworker get the approval for paying them a full weeks hours no matter how long it took. All of a sudden the project was back on track because the guys could work effectively and not lose money. My parents did the opposite. They would rush their employees to finish quickly for the day but charge the client the full time. They were surprised when many of their hardest workers quit because what was to point of killing yourself just so your boss makes more money?

Well, if they can finish their work quicker, then they should be offering to do more work rather than just sitting around doing nothing. If they actually did that, then the company would more than likely reward them for being more valuable than the rest of the workers. But if you hide the fact that you are getting your work done quicker, then how is the company supposed to know you should be rewarded? You aren't being punished for getting work done quicker. You are being punished for purposely hiding freetime that they are paying you for that could be used to benefit the company. You think a company wouldn't make it a point to their other workers that they need to get more done because you are getting more done than them? Just imagine if a McDonald's worker did this crap? Oh I already made more burgers than everyone else so I'm just going to sit here and do nothing. Dude would be fired in a heartbeat. Do you understand the concept of being paid by the hour? If you only work 30 hours, then you should only be paid 30 hours. You people have this stupid attitude. Oh why should I bother working harder if they aren't going to pay me more. Maybe they don't pay you more because you don't ever show any initiative, and you just constantly do the bare minimum. Just because one company didn't reward you for working harder, doesn't mean other company's won't. The fact that that you people don't realize your piss poor attitude actually affects your ability to move up in companies is beyond me. Why would anyone want to give a promotion to a negative Nancy? And if most office jobs can be completed within 10 hours a week, then they should fire 75% of their employees and have the other 25% take care of the work. I used to have your garbage attitude and reasoning. Guess what... I never got any raises and promotions. But the second I changed my attitude and started showing real initiative, I started getting promotions and raises. If a certain company doesn't appreciate your effort, then you go and work for someone else who will appreciate your work. But you actually have to show that you are more valuable than the other worker. Why would a company give you a raise if you do the same amount of work as literally everyone else? Want more money, then they show you are worth the extra money. You aren't worth extra money, if you do the same amount of work as everyone else. Doesn't matter if you get the work done quicker if you don't actually do any extra work with that extra time you gained. This idea that you pepple think you deserve to be rewarded for doing the bare minimum is beyond me.
@alanlight7740

It gets more complicated because some people, if given the option of finishing early and still getting paid, do a rushed job with lots of errors while the guys who do their job correctly get punished by having to work much longer hours. Unfortunately there is no incentive structure that works for every employee, because everyone reacts in their own way and some employees either have no sense of responsibility for the work they do or have no awareness of how poor a job they do when they rush their work.

They tracked mouse, keyboard, even screen data, as well as tracked the apps running on other screens. I told them that I would like a company computer instead and they said that it wasnt possible because everyone uses their personal computers. That was when I brought up the fact that the programs where basically keyloggers that were nearly impossible to remove or find once installed. Then I found out they blocked my emails and all other forms of communication. It was great because I saved several of our Discord members the hassle.

Any company monitoring employees based on screen time is insane and they're bound to fail. Let's be real, Wells Fargo hasn't been doing well for a while now and if you want success you can only judge people by productivity and results. A good example would be giving John XYZ account and ask him to give me an analysis by Monday; if I get it early he's extremely productive, if I get it late then he's likely* slacking off or possibly over worked. Monitoring whether someone is touching their mouse is useless if they do great work and the opposite is true as well; I don't care how much you touch your mouse if every project I give you is late and incomplete.

Some employers are overbearing and some have legit issues. I worked at a company that became overbearing so i quit along with a big group of workers. The new changes only affected people in the shop but not anybody in the office. We built custom aluminum catamarans. The last straw was remote cameras covering every inch of the production area so managers could watch us nightshift people from home. We didnt have problems with laziness, theft, etc. We didn't miss deadlines. The justification was "safety" somehow. I'm not working and sweating my ass off so they can log in and get themselves off....

You're worried about someone see you at work? Yet you've got no sympathy for the people that have already put in their 8 hours being asked to work OT with no compensation?

I have to wonder if the Wells Fargo employee who passed away at her desk -- and remained undetected for four days -- had one?

If a company started to do this, it would completely destroy any motivation I had to work hard. They would find that I move my mouse a lot, but strangely, my keystrokes would mostly consist of W, A, S, and D, with the occasional E or F.

Seems an odd way to track employees. I imagine a lot of work might not be done on the computer.

Depends on the company. At my company almost no work, other than phone calls are done on the computer… oh wait.. phone calls are done on the computer. When someone’s status shows Not active for 55 minutes in the middle of the morning…. They’re not working.

Same, I have a job that can best be described as emergency response. I'll sit at my desk reading the news, articles about upcoming innovations in my field and of course watching RU-vid until a call comes in.

Why does moving up the corporate ladder mean doing less work. Yhen why is it a point of conversation like if I wanna work hard and make more money why am I punished when I’m doing “too much”. Especially when you haven got cuz no one else is there to do it.

It's because eventually you get paid for what you know from experience, not what you do. Experienced people are more efficient.
