I’m American. My grandparents were all from Ireland. One worked the mines in Wales to earn passage to the United States. Great job, guys. You do Wales…and Ireland…proud. 🇺🇸🇮🇪🏴
I’d go to Dublin for the Wales game every two years in the 90s....all the pubs were full of fans having sing offs, Molly Malone v Sloop John B..great times
That sounds like a fantastic thing to see and hear, as a great x 3 grandson of Irish Convicts sent to Van Diemans land (Tasmania) that touched my heart, a beautiful lament.
Think it's from Brendan Behan's Borstal Boy - there is a short poem in there that ends "God help the Welsh, they will never be free". Behan was likened to our Dylan Thomas - both of whom went in similar circs.
By brother Funeral they play the fields of Athenry and when I hear the song it makes me tear up also l remember the Irish football fans singing it at a football match against Spain it brought goose bumps my friend ask me what are they singing l had to contact my Nephew in England and ask what are singing when told me my friend went out brought it it doesn't matter who singing this song weather at a football match or a Rugby match it brings you to tears
Watched that match here in Spain-Ireland was being given a walloping by Spain but The Fields never sounded better!! My Spanish pals couldn't understand why the Irish seemed so happy.....!!Saw a few signs that day ''Ankela Merkel thinke we're working''
My abiding memories of Scotland Wales matches, fine singing. If you sang bass, you were gold, boyo! So these Treorchy, Swansea, Bridgend boys told me. Beautifully sung.......and Wales fans ALWAYS do a great Flower of Scotland. Will be cheering on our Celtic cousins! 🍻🍻
They just nailed it. Without stewing in it. So disciplined. Well done the Welsh gents. Would love to hear a few thousand Welshmen blast this out after a few pints. In Baile Atha Cliath. The way they tweaked it would silence the home crowd. Without doubt.
Nope , the roof would be raised a few feet, as would the hearts of all who heard it and all who sang it . Welsh, Irish or anyone else. From an Irishman and proud.
Years ago, at any sporting event that included Wales, the Welsh fans sang their national anthem as though they were one enormous choir that had been training for months. I wonder if that is still true today.
Quality. Great voices. Great emotion. Worth noting where they all spent their formative years.....by examining their ears. Just saying from experience...
Love this version by this rugby team and have shared it with a number of my mates who sing in a Welsh choir in BC as well as the Londoners. One of my favourite songs.
