Check out my impressions of the Wen drill press. In this Wen drill press review I will go through all of the features of the drill press. I will also do an a WEN drill press unboxing so you can see how it is packaged and what comes with the tool. I chose the WEN 4210T because it was the least expensive model that had all the features I wanted, variable speed, etc. I also wanted the Wen drill press table to help me make repetitive holes. I think this is a drill press for a beginner and also a great drill press for woodworking. The Wen drill press table review is included in this video. Are Wen tools worth it? Are Wen tools good? I think it is well worth the $50 but don't expect it to be a high quality product. It is made from MDF and can be damaged easily. Mine arrived with some slight cosmetic damage on the corners but not enough for me to send it back.

Judging solely by customer reviews, Wen seems to be a hidden gem of a tool brand. Not contractor grade, but it seems to have excellent performance for home workshops no matter the tool. Their prices are consistently the lowest per machine also.

They are a great brand, I bought a Planer, a Dremel, and a Benchtop Jointer, and all three see alot of work in my small shop/garage. I've contemplating on this drill press and the dust collector for my next purchase.

Absolutely worth it. I bought mine for $139.75 after mass research. I previously bought the 8". Don't do it. These Wen presses prices fluctuate all over the place. When I bought mine the 10" was only $30 more than the 8". I returned the 8 and bought the 10 when I realized how vital the rack and pinion table height mechanism is. You get so much more for the few dollars difference it's not a good idea to buy the 8. Had mine for a year. Love it.

When they say “10 inch” drill press, it means it will drill to the center of a 10” circle. Or 5” from the drill center to the front of the column. Bandsaws are measured the same way.

Your videos are on another level these days. LOTS of improvements and progress over the last 4 years! Quick question. Would you do a comparison of some other 'budget' drill presses? This Wen is currently about $190 on Amazon, but there is also a 10" Skill for $199 and even a 10" Bucktool for $189. Would love to see a head's up on some drill press models $200 or less to determine the 'best budget drill press'. Thanks in advance!

A couple of things you could try for the tear out, blue painters tape on the bottom works sometimes, or drill half way through the piece then flip it over and drill through the bottom the rest of the way. The second way eliminates tear out

I bought the Wen 4214 in the middle of 2020. Works great. I don't think you noticed but the laser was on the whole time. I wished you would have showed if, and how, you set the lasers up to cross under the drill bit. I seem to be doing it wrong, as I get it set then raise or lower the table and the lines do not remain under the center of the bit. Greatly appreciate your videos and have been , and remain, a long time subscriber.

Hi brother - another great video! Two quick questions please...... For using a 2-in forstner bit would you go with what speed? also the way you have that table / fence set up how would you drill a hole in the center of a piece of wood? Looks like the bit comes down close to the back of the table and near the fence?
@731Woodworks
@731Woodworks 3 года назад
You can move the fence back. The table has a removeable insert that is replaceable that allows you to drill through wood. 2 inch bit on this drill press, low and slow is best.

I have the same drill press. I bought it back in May to replace a Skill that failed. Skill gave me my money back, and since I had a Wen band saw, I bought a Wen drill press. I didn't know how much I would use the drill press, so wanted to keep the price down. I have been very happy with it. I have been using it for woodworking and drilling quarter inch 304 stainless steel bar, which the parts of a interior barn door track and brackets are made of. In the process I have learned quite a lot. First, regarding drilling metal. Slower is better. I was going too fast in the beginning and I burned up two Milwaukee drills. I now go slow, use a liberal amount of Tap Magic cutting oil, and they are coming out fine. Second, you need a drill press vise to drill metal parts accurately. Wen makes a nice one that is only $15. When I use it, I clamp it down with C clamps. Everything must be clamped down tight or your work may slip. Same with drilling wood. Clamp it down. I use a Kreg AutoMax clamp. That is about all there is to know, except I drilled through my work once and into the table. I now clamp a board to the table. When it gets too full of holes, I replace it with another. A drill press is a necessary tool for anyone doing woodworking or working with metal. There is just no other way to get accuracy and repeatability. Postscript: I bought a Wen benchtop spindle and belt sander. I was making interior wood shutters which have a lot of pieces. I wanted the edges to be smooth. The belt sander made short work of that. I now don't know how I would exist without it. It takes a while to figure out all it's uses, but once you do, you will use it all the time. It would be especially good for taking the raised grain off construction lumber. I believe I paid $208 at Home Depot. Today, I was making small wood parts. It was great for shaping them. One more thing. For a nice set of drills, buy yourself a set of Comoware Cobalt drills on Amazon. They are cheap and every bit as good as the brand names. They keep going through quarter inch stainless and show no sign of wearing out. Use a lot of cutting oil and don't try to punch all the way through in one pass. They should never wear out if you are drilling wood.
