Wenatchee Huckfest 2013 - Pilot RC 40% Decathlon

Azhar (RIP) brought his beautiful Pilot RC 40% Decathlon to the Wenatchee Huckfest and was surprised and delighted to receive this year's "Bad Ass Plane Award". The award might have had something to do with flights like this one by Kody who as you will see, has mastered the fine art of realistic scale flying ;-)
Azhar's Decathlon is powered by a DA-120 with KS cans, has a Powerbox Systems Smoke pump and uses Savox servos all around.

sorry for the late response.but there is only one thing better than a Pilot rc Decathlon, and that is the pilot behind the sticks.super good flying and great video.

I am guilty of watching it a few times myself and enjoy it more each time. It was a pleasure to be there to see it in person. I haven't mentioned it before but the plane was quite under powered and the pilot (Kody) made the most of the flight and turned in a very memorable performance. Many thanks for watching! Cheers, Bob

Just ordered my 40%. Black, White, and Red one. after watching the plane in the air I'm for sure buying the da120. The reason I went with RC guys is the crash parts are free, just pay shipping. cool man Thanks

At first I thought, "How could a Decathlon win a 'Bad Ass Plane Award?'" Then I saw that Decathlon (and Kody) do things no other Decathlon has ever done (knife-edge harriers anyone?). So while the Edge 540s and Extra 300s could easily do rolling harriers, This Decathlon was never intended for such shenanigans, but it did most of them anyway. Super-hot flying, Kody! And fantastic video as usual, Bob!

Watching you fly this has reminded me how much fun a decathalon can be and inspired me to put mine back in the air . I have a carl goldberg decathalon 80"ws (little in comparison) but a lot of fun ! Now if i can get my flying to look anything like yours i will be a happy man ! Lol. Seriously though, beautiful bird and absolutely stunning flying !

TripleThreatRC well I got my bird in the air , trimmed and new motor broken in ! Now if I can just keep the wing struts from coming apart , my smile each time I land might be a bit wider ! That must have been something,to witness all that skill, at one show.Brilliant stuff Bob. I tried the pro Bob camerawork jollop the other day,as it turns out i can't multitask.Talking rubbish i can do but film properly at the same time...no. Fantastic video once again mate,double thumbs and double plums up.

+tbobborap1 Lmao Sheepylishous indeed. The video is an oldie but goodie, just like you g. The flying would have been even more spectacular if the plane had a more powerful engine. If you look close, you'll see it couldn't even climb out of a hover. It does however, remain as one of the favorite flights I've seen.

Yep... pure scale flying with a Decathlon... what, doesn't everybody do lomcevaks and pop-tops with their Decathlons? It would be showing off, Kody, except that you're so darn smooth at it... the Decathlon envelope just had a hole blasted in it...

Great flight, man! To see that makes brings me into a "can't wait"- status :-), because atm i am at the built of the same plane (the red/white design of that 150 beauty). Looks like i should speed up to bolt the Valach engine to its firewall before winter starts :-) What engine do you fly, DA100/120? Thrust looks really good! Best regards from near Berlin/ Germany... Jay Sims We haven't had any mid-air crashes in all the events I've been to. There are sometimes 12 planes in the air at the same time (and all are flying freestyle) but usually it is just a few. It is a big airspace and each pilot has a spotter to warn him about other planes. There are lots of crashes but they crash into the dirt due to mechanical failure or due to trying just a little too hard lol. Many thanks for watching and for your comment!
