There is no possible way to have a bad day after listening to her. Watch any Wendy Holcombe video and instant cure for the blues. I would have loved to meet her. Talent, charm, everything missing in a lot of folks today.
When I was growing up In Montgomery Al. every Sunday morning the only thing we would watch was the gospel shows. Wendy was a constant. I had the hugest crush on her, she could and would play anything with strings on it! I was only a year or two older than her and she was my inspiration for becoming a musician. When I got out of the USAF by chance she and Jerry Clower were staying at a hotel in Brandon Florida that I was working as night security at. She sat in with the band for a couple songs and I had a chance to talk to her and tell her what an inspiration she had been when I was so young. I didn't have the guts to tell her what a crush I had had on her but the short meeting was priceless to me, a moment I"ll cherish forever. I few years latter I heard she had died and it effected me greatly. She was a class act and and truly modest person . I can still hear her say when she was so young "my name is Wendy Holcombe and I'am from Alabaster Alabama. I don't remember exactly but I think the TV station was WSFA.
So Sad, This Wonderful Little Lady had to Be Taken from Us So Soon. Amazing Talent & A Amazing Child. May God Bless & Hold her Close. She Sure Hit Those Chromatics On That 5 Pefect.
Omg! I remember her from my childhood. I always had the biggest crush on her when I was too young to realize what an awesome talent she had. I just looked her up last night cuz I was doing some research on Jerry Clower. I didn't even know she had passed. And at such a young age. How sad. I mean, you can't even sum up this girl in less than 100 good words. What a shame.
I'm org. from the BIG city of Berry, Alabama. I used to watch her on Country Boy Eddie every morning playing the banjo. That girl sure could play !!! I was not aware of her passing till today. What a great loss. ROLL TIDE !!!
I saw Wendy and Grandpa Jones at a county fair in PIKEVILLE KY in mid 1960’s. My dad said I should ask her to ride the Ferris Wheel so I did and she said yes. What a great memory, thanks Dad for getting me to do that.
Wendy and I would've been the same age had she lived. I seen her at the old Benton ill high school gym in the mid seventys. I will always love her and not for just her music.
