What a great employee she was. Polite and pleasant and she did her best to educate you on the business. She did great…. And that sandwich looked amazing… both actually.
Danny got a taste of real Californian natives. Friendly, talkative, and welcoming. That is the real California! Not what you see on the news or through Hollywood. Real Californian's are genuinely nice people.
Of course it doesn't hurt to have a British accent. Everyone wants to talk to a Brit', ask them their impressions of California, the US in general, US way of life, talk about healthcare, UK musical artists, etc. Source: A Brit' who has been living in SoCa for the past 21 years. :D People here are nice, when they can briefly escape the stresses of daily life, finances, etc. Cali is a relative paradise and I do enjoy living here... for as long as I can afford to. :D
I would disagree. The news is there for a reason, there's way too many dirtbags walking the streets he in California, even driving. After living in 7 states and Canada, people here are just inconsiderate and selfish. Never have I almost died more times than driving on 99.
@@Y0utubeIsFuckingHomo I moved away in 2012 and I won’t even go back on vacation haha. I fly my family here. I feel safer in “dangerous” parts of Mexico.
@@Y0utubeIsFuckingHomo as a native-born Californian, I've found that most of those inconsiderate and selfish 'Californians' that you speak of are very much like you; from somewhere else.
The story says that a cop went there for lunch and ordered a beef sandwich. The bread accidentally fell into the drippings from the meat and he just said to use it anyway, instead of throwing it out. When he bit in and got all that extra juice, he was like "You guys NEED to do this from now on" and the "french dip" was born.
There used to be restaurants around Europe, especially in Italy that you could take your own joints of meat to and the chefs would cook it for you. They got to keep the drippings and would often eat with bread
My grandmother and my parents used to talk about bread and dripping. By the time I was growing up that wasn't a thing anymore, it was poverty food and looked down on.
Been waiting for BBQ since he arrived, disappointing if its 90% sandwiches on his tour. I've had more BBQ than Danny has recently, and he's in the land of BBQ.
We go to Philippes a few times a year when we go to Dodger games. Wet beef dip, potato salad, cup of chili and a slice of cherry pie, all with lemonade. If you're ever there again, don't dip in the mustard, just put a small bit on the sandwich, it goes best with the beef. Glad to see you hit Philippes, it's classic.LA.
That because those are the real Californian's. Down to earth, friendly and sweet. Not what you find in Hollywood or San Fran. Real California is filled with lovely people.
Would like to see Danny hitting up some soul food restaurants/takeaways, even some nice BBQ spots, small ones / family run places, something exciting, just not another sandwich review please 😖
@@marclowther3823 Mark. Regarding Heart attack Grill, it's on youtube. Just go on his page and it's definitely on ive just watched it. And he hasn't deleted it. Okay pal👌🏴🇺🇸
When my mum, used to roast a joint of Beef, Lamb, or Pork , she always gave me a " dip butty " , thats, just a slice of bread. I never got any meat, as that was for the family's Sunday dinner. That was over 60 years ago, What childhood memories.
In the UK Coke and other popular beverages have cane sugar also so the Mexican Coke is basically what we have. Mexican Coke only appeals to Americans mostly whom don’t have cane sugar in their coke, they get the corn syrup instead. The slight difference if any is likely from the Coke glass bottle, it’s much better if you buy them in the UK over the cans
Whenever friends and family visit Los Angeles I take them to Phillipes for a sandwich. The lamb is my favorite sandwich with double dipped. The lamb is sliced off the leg delicious. The Cole slaw, potato salad, and pickled eggs are delicious.
Danny, you are truly a gift from god. Love admire your attitude and how you are able to bring joy to the masses in such a humble and transparent way. Keep it going champion
This guy is becoming an absolute legend of food vids on RU-vid👍👍by far the nicest and most genuine reviewer on here.👍👍hope you become the face of takeaways all over the globe🍔🍟🍕🥓🍗
Danny you are in America enough with the sandwiches and lets us see the mega burgers and hotdogs. Can’t believe you never got a foot long hotdog lolol still love your vids buddy
@@BogusDudeGW - You have no gratitude? In life, not everything is equal, if she gives exceptional service, better than the other waitresses, she should get something extra.
@@tiffaniterris2886 But how does he know the service is better, from one server to the next? Unless you're at a sit-down restaurant, most places ask for the tip before any services are rendered.
On a Sunday if we had beef my Mom used to give me a piece of bread dipped in the meat juice to keep me going until lunch. A blast from the past - thank you for the memory!
Glad you made it to Philippe the Original in LA for a dip. Hope you're enjoying your visit to the US. Fyi, the meat can be a little dry, so you should always get a double dip. The sawdust on the floor is a little slippery, but it's supposed to soak up everything that people drop throughout the day. Apparently, it made cleaning the floor easier, because I guess it was easier to just sweep up the sawdust.
Danny if you are still in LA… you must consider going to Langer’s on Alvarado across the street from MacArthur Park (LOL, don’t go to the park, especially at night). Langer’s has the best ever pastrami sandwich!!! Let me tell you, life changing!!! Love you and your vids.
Hi Danny, I'm currently visiting LA. Today I went to the grove shopping centre, there's a farmer's market that has a load of amazing food stalls to try, Burgess, hot dogs, French dip, Mexican, tons of dessert and fresh smoothies. I wanted to eat it all. Give it a go if you're still around!
No one commented on how Danny didn’t get a famous Phillippe’s pickled egg even though it was right in his face when he was ordering. They are delicious!
Mexican Coca Cola is the same as the British coke. They just don’t use corn syrup like the regular American. But both uk and Mexican cokes are identical
Danny if you ever make it back to LA, you have to try Giamelas in Burbank,CA the best steak and cheese sandwich you’ll ever have is there, along with the pastrami sandwich
So glad you went to phillipes I grew up in LA and have been watching your videos forever and was thinking of places I’d recommend to you and this place was for sure in the top 3
There is no hiding when its a plain beef sandwich, but if the quality of the ingredients its good then you don`t need more ...well done Danny as always :-)
Thanks for the count. They are definitely the most popular takeaway in US so it makes sense. If he was reviewing fish and chips or Sunday roast in NYC or LA it would be terrible food.
About the Mexican Coke. It is like Coke sold out side of the U.S. made with sugar verses cheaper corn syrup. It was changed late 1980s when Coke started their classic/new coke recipe campaign. It diverted people's attention from the cost/sugar change by Coke.
Danny lamb is my favourite too. If I cook a leg of it I lightly score it then smother it in English mustard. Wrap it in foil loosely and cook it slowly in the oven. Believe me, you’ll love the flavour, it doesn’t taste of mustard in any way. It’s delicious 😋
There's a place call "Little Jewel of New Orleans" right around the corner from Philippes. You have to try it! They make the BEST po boy sandwiches--and they're as big as your forearm!
