Reviews of weather events, natural disasters, astronomical phenomena and wildlife around the world
The capital of the Russian region of Primorye, the city of Vladivostok, was flooded as a result of a heavy downpour caused by a tropical cyclone. Due to the huge amounts of water that fell in a short time, houses, streets, shopping centers were flooded in Vladivostok, and power outages occurred.
In several apartment buildings, a real waterfall of rainwater streams formed. In order to save property from the flood, residents tried to collect water with buckets, shovels, and drive it out with brooms.
The low-lying areas of the city were the first to go under water. Local residents began to use alternative modes of transport to move along the flooded streets: surfboards and jet skis.
Some shopping centers, underground parking lots, and crossings were flooded. Tram traffic was stopped due to the tracks being washed away and stones falling on the rails. The city experienced 10-point traffic jams. Cars everywhere stalled, sank and were unable to pass the water obstacle. Local residents reported on social networks that the soil was washed away on streets under repair, and it was carried into courtyards, blocking the passage. In several places, small landslides occurred due to soil erosion. The city administration warned the population not to park cars near retaining walls and slopes for fear of new landslides and collapses.
Due to heavy rainfall, 24 accidents occurred on the power grids. Numerous power outages affected several areas of the city.
At the moment, the power supply to Vladivostok has been restored, the city's public utilities are dealing with the consequences of the large-scale flooding.
However, according to weather forecasters, a new series of showers is expected in the next 2 days as part of the same tropical cyclone, which continues to determine the weather in the region.
