That was some dignified speech. He so often is reduced to his handsome appearance, but he obviously has so much more to offer than that. All my respect to him!

I may not be part of the LGBT community but what he said is just inspirational...I've always admired people who comes out, because they're very brave, despite society's disapproval and mockery over something different from them (especially in a christian-influenced environment..)I love his quote.. and I think that really got me because I sometimes experience depression...(His bravery and his composure over this makes me luv him even more

When I first heard that Mr. Miller was a gay man, I was a bit sad. Only because I had watched prison break and loved his charachter. I don't know him personally. I had no right to be sad. That passed quickly as I realized that this was his reality. I am very proud of and happy for Mr. Miller to finally be free from the oppression and fear. For becoming a part of something much larger than himself. I pray he has found peace, love, and acceptance. Something every person deserves and is entitled to. I identified with some of what he said. Not because I am gay, because I am human and grew up in a nightmare. Always being and feeling alone. Humans are the cruelest of all life forms on this planet. Good luck to Mr. Miller. I am straight, I am a full blood Vietnamese teenage girl, and I am depressed. I watch this video daily at 2AM to be able to listen to Wentworth Miller be that someone to me.

I have my 13 yr old daughter came out as Bi. At first I thought maybe she is just confused. Maybe she is lost in between. She carries that burden for 3yrs and she can't express herself. Until she ended up dropped out from school. She became too private. She became a loner. How many times she attempted to take her own life by slitting her wrist. I even brought her to a psychiatrist. She used to be the jolly and lively girl always sing and dance. She would always wear dress and cute clothes. But when she reached 10 suddenly everything changed! I can still remember when she came out this year as a Bi. It was 4am she woke me up and she started crying bcoz she felt like suffocated and couldnt breathe bcoz of the burden of coming out. She was scared to disappoint us. She's our only girl!!! After she came out, she is the happiest rainbow I've ever seen....😍❤️

Reading the comments... A good deal are understanding and supportive but there are a couple gems that are proving that we need people like Wentworth and the people at Human Rights Campaign to continue doing the work that they do.

I feel like this speech is one of the most amazing ones of all times, I appreciate it to no end and I think that it needs to be heard. Our society needs to change further. I believe that someone's sexual orientation is NO ONES business. It is your own. The principle of coming out is not rational to me. Why does someone, who lives in the public eye, or any human for that matter, have to "justify" or "state" their orientation and lovelife? It is your life and you get to live it. It is your OWN. Yours. Same as your feelings. You are entitled to feel, you are entitled to your emotions. This should not be taken from you. But you also do not have to state your feelings openly if you do not want to.Sexual orientation, feelings and emotions are personal. They matter, but they do not have to be broadcasted for everyone to see. These things are private and I hope that listening to Wentworth Miller's speech will push humanity an important step further towards a (for lack of better words) new, necessary understanding of what it means to be human and of what it means to be kind.

Words cannot begin to define or express the overall brilliance that is Wentworth Miller. This man is a hero not only to the LGBTQ community, but to all who have suffered from depression and battling their inner demons. He is beautiful inside and out, and I am so glad to see him playing such a prominent role in Hollywood; breaking down barriers and forever being such a brace individual and being the hero that we all need. This speech gave me chills, made me tear up and made my heart soar. Kudos to Wentworth for being such an amazing human being.

Wentworth is a truly inspirational, kind hearted, intelligent man. Full to the brim with talent and someone I can truthfully say I look up to as a role model. Mental health, even today, still has stigma attached to it. This was a thought provoking speech that raised so many important issues. Xx

I know I’m kind of far behind but I just recently became a fan of him so I still want to write a response. I would like to say something deep and inspirational that can live up to what I just heard but I honestly don‘t know what I could possibly say to achieve that. Wentworth Miller is in my opinion one of those few and very rare people who have a pure and beautiful not just outside but also inside. I have always had a big problem with talking about my problems or feelings on the inside just with my family and closest friends so I can‘t imagine how hard it would be for me to talk about those things in public. I of course don‘t know if this is just as hard for others too but I believe that he did an amazingly brave thing right there and I‘m proud that this kind of a humble and lovely person that he is, is still somewhere out there.

It was great to hear this as an adult because I haven't watched many speak about what I've similarly experienced, and it was unexpected. I became disconnected and robotic in high school, hiding my spirit like a turtle in its shell protecting myself from a world that seemed to reject me...from the teacher who pointed me out in class & said gay people shouldn't be allowed to marry, to the peer who told me gay people should be tricked onto an island then blown up, to a new step father telling me that it wasn't ok for me to act "flaming gay"...not unexpectedly I became severly depressed and attempted suicide my freshmen year and eventually dropped out of highschool. I suppose our words matter and they do have the power to make or break.

I'm not gay, but as a 42 year-old man who's struggled with Avoidant Personality and Body Dysmorphic Disorder, as well as anorexia and chronic depression all my life, I can definitely identify with what Wenthworth's saying about there only being "I and me". I've never really spoken about my problems with anyone because there's nothing anyone can do to help me. I'm not happy with the way I look or how that dissatisfaction has affected my personality and made me bitter over several decades. And that self-hatred has made me isolate myself from friends and family and society in general. There's only been me, because I can only trust me to not judge me for my flaws. Anyway, while I'm glad that there are organizations that bring support and a sense of community to LGBT people, I can't help but wish that something similar existed for people with mental problems as well. How many people are like me and hide away from a world they feel alienated from? How many of us have given up because there's nowhere to turn to for actual camaraderie? Oh sure, there are therapists and social workers aplenty and there are organizations that gather "special people" together and have them do activities. But there's not much in the way of places where people with social problems can meet and not be singled out as being "special". A place where we can all meet up and socialize without being reminded of why we're all there. In my experience, many handicapped and depressed people wish for nothing more than to be treated as the equals of others. To be normal and accepted as normal. And it doesn't matter if their problems are in their heads or if they're tied to a wheelchair. The longing to be one of the community is strong, and I just don't think there's that kind of opportunity available at the moment. So much of the therapy and group activities are more patronizing than anything else, despite the best wishes of those who organize those things. It's like charity work in many ways. It may be kind to give to starving people in Africa or whatever, but the recipients of that charity are also denied the opportunity to feel independent and capable in their own right by that generosity. So we need to find a way to allow people with personal challenges to feel part of society in a practical way, and not just isolate them into separated groups where they can support each other.

being gay is not something one should be afraid of... its sad that so many people hate gays.... i am bi, and been thinking of becoming a man since, for some damn odd reason... i keep falling for gay men.... i feel his pain. i been where he is at (suiside), when my father died on Christmas. but I am still here. I am still here because I am not to die yet. And neither should any gay or bi man or woman. Let your soul be free. Embrace who you are and how you feel. When you do you will find true joy.
