You know, with the whole destruction of Kaenri'ah and separation of the twins, it's no wonder Lumine and Dainsleif were depressed. I don't know if having a cheerful baby like Paimon nearby helps with depression, or if the Traveler is just not as burdened by destruction of Kaenri'ah, while the Sibling lost a lot of friends at once.

Tbf, dain was fully aware that he lost everything and everyone plus cursed or whatever so we can't expect him to be as optimistic as paimon. He might be distant but he always look after her. In each scene we can see him glancing at her to make sure she's alright. Unfortunately she does need verbal support like how paimon keeps cheering up the traveler which dain unfortunately couldn't provide. That doesn't make him care about her less tho
No wonder Lumine betrayed Dain. Paimon keeps the traveler motivated and keeps hope for them. Dain was just an edgy pessimist at the time he was with the Abyss twin

I can't blame him tho tbh, he was probably in a horrible place mentally, as his home has just been turned to rubble (could be other reasons as well) and he already seemed to be pretty anti-social. I don't trust him or anyone else tho and that includes the abyss sibling

@@pspsps1239 I'm not saying that Dain is a bad person, I know that at that moment he was just as traumatized as Lumin, but going to deal with something and leaving Lumin alone was clearly not what she needed at those moments, which is why I consider him a bad friend at least for Lumin. Two traumatized people who traveling with each other and have minimal contact with each other is not a very good combination for the mental health of both.
I would say yes, Lumine talked about Aether enough that Dainsleif immediately recognises Aether, when meeting him. I think their coldness towards each other has more to do with the fact that both of them lost everything they had, and just couldnt find any new hope or attachment and were too busy with their self-pity/ hopelessness. As the video shows neither Lumine nor Dain tries to reach out and deepen their connection. But I do think they were friends, simply because they traveled together for long and kept going together through out most of teyvat. Lumine never settled down or made big connections to anyone in teyvat, since no one (aranara and khanrians aside) knows of her, but she kept walking together with Dain, so I think he was the closest partner she had, and the fact that Dain does feel similar about her (see the entire. "prove that your more worthy to rescue her" line) seems to confirm that they simply drifted apart in the end. Dain also mentions in his first quest that he learned of the history of many places not for his Knowledge but because Lumine asked him about them and he wanted to inform her. Also wasnt Dain at the Vourukasha Oasis after the cataclysm, were he almost transformed into a monster and fought against the abyss with Zurvan (the first pari, basically his paimon), until Lumine arrived so they probably didnt meet in Mondstadt.
bonding over tragedy is what happens in many stories, but the opposite effect can also happen, were people cant move on from the tragedy and just increase each others sadness and frustrations.
Abyss Twin was pretty screwed from the get go going with Dainsleif and I'm leaning toward intentionally skewed the Abyss Twins' view of Teyvat and gods for his own end. There's no record of our twin interacting with or spending time with Teyvat's people. Personally I wouldn't trust a guy who says not to trust gods after finding out his people's belief they were better than gods and pursuit if that notion led to the deaths and near destruction of an entire continent. @@entropy8634 If I understand it correctly, Lumine's journey happened shortly after the destruction of Kaenri'ah. Sages were looking for Nahida, Oceanids were looking for Egeria, Inazuman Archon was Ei and she hasn't created a puppet yet, Dvalin was hit by Durin's blood, but it did not take over him yet. Geo Archon was still going strong, though, despite whatever he saw in Kaenri'ah.
Goes to show us that it really matters who your traveling companions are To be fair, we are dealing with Lumine and Dain in the aftermath of a major traumatic event for the both of them. It could be that their travels are more of convenience than genuine companionship; thus a coping mechanism than anything else
This animation also proves something we thought, the traveler is the only one who lost his powers while the twin from the abyss didn't lose his powers, the traveler is also the only one who catches the elements
@@emiliapeabea proves what? That twin had their powers still? That was what started the theory in the first place (probably) Besides, she/he could've gotten the power back with the abyss. It was never confirmed that she/he had their original powers throughout the entire journey, unlike traveler.

She just let's them go full power when we were locked out? If she did lock the sibling powers, then they got their power in the middle of their journey or end of their journey. That's the theory part. But this animation is proof that they had their power throughout the entire length of their journey and unknown god did Not lock theirs.
I think Paimon is low-key the hero of this story. Venti has implied with his poem at the start of the game that if the siblings were exchanged (Aether woke up first) then nothing would be different. The First Traveler to wake got Dain as their traveling companion - a man who couldn't be there for them, to ground them. Paimon grounds the Traveler is a "constant" for them. Another thing to consider is that Aether also has hope he can be reunited with Lumine. He's had hints and signs of her existence. Think about things from Lumine's PoV: being the first to wake, there would be no signs throughout ALL of Teyvat that Aether was still around. She would have traveled everywhere with no hope that she could be reunited. That's gotta be heartbreaking.
2:00 I wonder if this supposed to showcase that a lot of animals were hunt down by the time of Aether's journey, showcasing the time gap again 5:15 I actually think the moments with filters are supposed to be "The road not taken", what could have been if siblings didn't get separated. Also would showcase that the journey for both would have been the same, since they have the same fantasies from different POVs. This short also suggests that abyss sibling's decision might not have come solely from what they saw but also from what kind of companion Dain was, especially with the shot of Aether walking through puddle while Lumine stops in said puddle's reflection Also, i wonder if Lumine came to Mond during a festival, maybe windblume, based on how the fountain is decorated
I think Lumine (Sibling) is just a friend to animals, like Disney princess. Look at her, standing around with Timmie's pigeons. While when the Traveler comes close, they all fly away.
Chances are the Traveler tried to find civilization and search for their Sibling right away but they didn't understand the language of Teyvat which made it quite difficult. It was only after spending months learning the language with Paimon that they began traveling.
Or the Traveler was still shaken from losing their Sibling, and took a few months to recover from that. Me and you, we'll probably go looking for civilization sooner rather than later. But the Traveler doesn't need to eat or anything, and he doesn't fear the wild beasts.
Except Dains was more distant to Lumine. Lumine always had her outfits crystals white so she always had her powers while Aether lost his. Paimon is annoying but they were more best buds even sleeping with one another but Lumine and Dains were always distant when together and Dains did something to betray her.
Well if they were considered royalty, became the princess etc of Khaenri'ah..(?) .. then Dains distance is him being as a guardian not a friend. She would be all thats left(?) And her being depressed.. well she watched the destruction and lost her brother. Also as noted by others her white/golden power is always glowing and his is not at all. (Often only as an Element he is in or not lit up at all.). I mean it is confusing why they did this being they said both are MC (even though people still argue over that.) I mean in the end they have both probably switched sides more then once is things just keep repeating.
Iirc the twins were in teyvat before the cataclysm or something, maybe one of the wars. They tried to leave because said incident and was smacked back down to earth by your beloved heavenly principals
So um i'm not expecting this to happened but given that the Devs told us in the beginning that Dains would playable in the near Future Would that count for paimon too? Given that they were our travelers Guides bk then Just a little off topic idea out there

While yeah it’s weird that Aiether didn’t seek out civilization was because they didn’t he didn’t know the native language of tevayt till he met Paimon and she taught him how to speak tevatian
I like how you pointed out the fact that on the Mondstadt staircase the spot where the traveler stood was destroyed. I didnt even notice that at first but I think it shows perfectly the theme of the animation, 'Road not taken'. Although our journey is supposed to be the same, the traveler is walking on a different path than the sibling. Though I think both of them took the road not yet taken at their respective times. The slight differences in the sceneses, I think, represent the fact that we're not on the same path, even if sometimes it seems like it. Whether it is because we are descenders or because we are different individuals.

I dont think alot of people understand what the Animated Short was trying to convey. It was never to show Dain and Lumine were not close to each other. It was to show how different thwir journey are, Aether's journey is filled with happiness and joy that is represented in Paimon and Lumine's journey is full of sorrow and darkness represented by Dainsleif. Its this Duality between the Siblings that changes everything, now the question is. Will Aether's light be able to bring them back together or will Lumine's darkness engulf Aether as well Also, the theory of Dain not caring for Lumine is bs. He was literally her guardian when she was the Princess of Khaenri'ah and Dain says he is ready reweave the threads to fate to save her in the Teyvat Chapter Preview. Thats not something you would do for someone you dont care, im sure Lumine deep down cares alot about Dain as well but is too focused on her goals to care about her feelings.

Bro, Lumine was probably traumitized after witnessing the fall of Khaen'riah(And probably much more we still don't know about), and for Dain, it was probably more traumitizing since he literally witnessing the fall of his homeland before his very eyes. Of course none of them would be in any position to try in cheer or console eachother.
The storyline of Gension is set on a timeline that perhaps is unclear at best and wonky at worst. Teyvat seems to be in some sort of Samsara. Dianslief who is Khaenri’ah, is the Boughkeeper of Irminsul, but prior to that he was the Chief swordsman in King Irmin’s royal court. The Jester who is also Khaenri’ah, and now the head of the Fatui, was a royal Madge in King Irmin’s royal court. Before he entered Irminsul, trying to change history for those in Tartarsuma, Scaramouche tells Lumine her brother lived with the Jester while he was the royal Madge. (That would have been before the year 500 and the cataclysm.) Scara also tells her no one knows when your brother came or when he left. I am wondering if Dianslief messed with Lumine’s mind by changing her history in Irminsul. Remember Clothar Colibear’s father? He is also Khaenri’ahn. He told Lumine all the Khaenri’ahns were so disappointed with her. Lumine also sees Aether in the broken mirror, across time? Time warp? Samsara? I think Dainslief is trying to make her believe she is the Abyss princess. I am also wondering if Lumine’s mind is so strong that what ever Dainslief is doing to her is not working. He is disgusted with her and she is upset and not sure why she feels the way she does. Could it be that when she finds out what he has done, she is going to take his behind out? Looking forward to more lore and excellent storyline of Gension!!!!!😊
Yeah but other reports like my Good Friend Max suggests that Lumine wakes up later than aether. Then 500 years before aether meet dainsleif before lumine woke up generations later and meet paimon
Dain And Lumine are probably both on edge due to the destruction of "the homeland" and Lumine more so because of Aethers disapperance. And they the siblings spend some time in Teyvat but before going back home the heavenly principles said "nope".
the POV's are "The road not taken" its a "what if" scenario if they were never separated. that's why they're in various places around teyvat, which wouldn't work if it was immediately post cataclysm
Lumine is referred to very often as the “princess of khaenriah”, since dain is technically the royal guard, it’d make sense that he kept his distance, yet kept his eye on her the whole time tbh
we never got to see the end of the siblings side with their encounter with clothtar but i believe that whole debacle was the spark. no wonder dain barely noticed, dude barely interacted with em.
Looks like both have the opposite travel trajectory. Lumine ended up in mondstsdt from which the door to the abbyss is closer while, aether started in mondstsdt on the beach oriented towards the thousand winds island. In one scene of the game we see Lumine looking at aether from thr cliff in mondtatd (where you find venti's flowers mats) : maybe she's the one that made sure he would wake up. Maybe she even did smthg to save him from the red/black boxes the heavenly principles made him prisoner with. Maybe she gave up her life for him. While Lumine is in Inazuma, aether is in Sumeru : they are traveling in opposite directions. Also the shot in the desert is prolly after the cataclysm, when they escaped kaenriah (kaenriah is the desert in Sumeru).
I know its fun to joke about the abyss sibling getting the better end of the deal bc they got dain but it's honestly so upsetting to see two such broken people traveling together. Both the abyss twin and dain witnessed the cataclysm, no wonder they have no interest in being friendly.
My theory (and I'm almost sure of that) is the twins already are on Teyvat BEFORE the story starts, meaning the Sustainer didn't get them the moment they arrived but the moment they tried to left for another place. That explains why we see the twins enjoying one another, the flower on Lumine's hairs and other small things in the end of that video. Doesn't explains why the Sustainer let the Twins in but not out, probably something they did? Or some rule they didn't know, like you can enter but not exit Teyvat? Which if that's the case make sense because we know Teyvat is a sort of "isolated world in the universe" (the Sky is fake! The SKY IS FAKE!")
Plot and I guess save the cooler for later also I think betrayal from a dude is better than a midget floating thing is all I can assume. To more of how the betrayal effected her. Paimon and Aether are literally best buds in this while Dainclif and Lumine were always together but distant she also seemed more lonely despite having him. They were never really that close from the video and she longed to see her brother again.
@keip4568 I firmly believe Enjou already gave us a heads up Paimon is going to betray us. That'll have a heavier impact than Dainsleif brooding and dragging Abyss twin into his mess.
Atleast we can trust paimon unlike dain. Who would want a killing machine who was captain on journey where no one is our friend instead of harmless child.
Montage of them being together could also be a "dream" like "what if they stayed together, what the traveling together would feel like?", so it's not 100% was their memories
I have a will theory so just wait and listen the abyss twin(gonna say lumine in this case) said that dain betrayed the people of khanrina...right? But we know that during the ctaclysm, the x dynasty was swallowed by the y dynasty(forgot the name) Now for lumine, the khanrina people should be the ones she knew then. Aka the x dynasty people, so maybe Dain either was supposed to be keeping some people from the y dynasty in check or dain helped the y dynasty than then swallowed and destroyed the x dynasty.......am i high or on to something? What are your thoughts on this

For me, I kinda see Dainsleif and Lumine as father and daughter, or older brother with little sister. Sort of similar as how I see Neuvillette and Furina.
Keep trying to tell people man, yall be hating on Paimon not knowing that this entire Journey would be hell alone or with someone who's grieving about their homeland being wiped out. Aether appreciates Paimon's presence if he didn't he wouldn't have hugged her after he returned from witnessing Lumine's memories.
this is not me making the claim, this is the game making the claim: Zurvan: Later, the masked swordsman would leave the sea of flowers alongside a (young woman/young man) with golden hair just like yours, and the sage went into the ruins underground and never returned.
Also my reason for claiming they ended it there was the latest dainsleif quest where they literally say they reached the sea of flowers at the end but I could be wrong
you just see it lumine and dain where never close not even a bit, they where strangers from the start too the end for eachother, dain never understood lumine and lumine never understood dain, they had only the way ahead in comon nothing else. no wonder she begun too dislike him the way she does now. for lumine it was a lonley journey with nothing but more pain and suffering the further they got all the time, nothing too smile for nothing too laugh at no fun no brake, just an lifless journey throu hell for her. for aether it is the exact opposite.
Great analysis! One thing about the montage, @5:40 you can see a Sakura tree in the background. Pretty suspect, now obviously it could be on another world. But, remember we only have the word of the Traveler, that all they remember is waking up in a world in flames. Obviously they had been on the world long enough for him to take some kind of nap and for Lumine to wake him. It just makes me wonder, if either the Traveler is keeping things close to the vest or he's missing memories. As we learn in 4.6, there exists fire that can take memories. That's not also considering other ways as well.
I think the reason dain and lumine seems distant could be dain blames lumine for what happened with khaneriah and is travelling with her cause there’s no one left I could be 100% wrong
I wonder if somebody attacked Lumine at the spot she was sitting on. So she either jumped off with that much force, or the attack was dodged and hit the stairs. A ruin guard? A Megachurl? Dvalin? Or maybe Dainsleif himself?

I feel like the stair scene is more to differentiate the time between the siblings. Because in Athear’s the stairs on the right side are broken yes.. but did you also notice there’s bit of overgrowth coming from the stairs? But when with in Lumine’s shot the stairs are in pretty good condition with barely any signs of grass growing between the crevice of the stairs. (Edit: There’s also the tree stump in Aethers as lumines has a tree with a small patch of shrubs)
while i want to come back in the game just to play this very quest i don't really have a good feeling about it so ill just wait for the vid to come out, maybe add a bit more content in that one lol. looking forward to it!
Dains is like Paimon to Aether. It should be obvious with this he is the main canon protagonist. While Lumine already went on her adventure decades ago in Teyvat.
3:12 there is indeed. I don't think it's meant to be canon. The stone steps look a bit Mondstadt-ish but they are nowhere we can see in Mondstadt. The line of the mountains in the background is nothing you'd see in Mondstadt. They would have to be mountains that are out of bounds for now. The fishing up of Paimon takes place elsewhere (the location they used for graphics can be found in Liyue). There's shots of some weird place in the middle (around 5:03) that doesn't match anywhere we've ever seen (the open courtyard with only Lumine and some passers-by in shot). As you say symbolic. They make the trees thicker in the clearing when Lumine rests. But trees don't live for 500 years generally and if they did they'd be thicker still. The steps are more uneven but if those are steps form the ancient civilization they were already lying about the place for 8000 years before Lumine showed up, so are they really going to visibly age in a scant 500 more years? And has the main shopping street of Mondstadt really changed so little in 500 years? Of course these considerations are unimportant, but it makes it harder to give credence to the view that Inteyvat grows on another planet (though other reasons in-game do cover that).
she could be weary of him for some reason, but id imagine were gonna find out in a week. i have a vid a while back suggesting dain could have interfered with her path to godhood, but idk.
