My Dad had a band, we were living in Houston, my Dad was gigging at a bar, a woman came up on stage and ask him if he could play any Patsy Cline, he said sure, so he gave her the mic, he said as soon as she started singing he knew, it was Patsy Cline. True story.
@@redcaddiedaddie Yes, My Dad love Bob Wills, I bought a violin from Louise Rowe, we got to be friends.(She was the stand up base player in his Texas Playboys.) Such an awesome and kind lady.
Surely they heard "At Last" at a wedding reception they attended. It's like the most played song of all wedding receptions. Maybe this will be the one song that will cause them to get up and do some slow dancing while the song is playing!
I don’t know. I think the song called ‘sweet dreams of you’ is even way more epic than ‘crazy’. There is something orchestral about the song that matches her classic voice.
'I Fall to Pieces' is my favourite too. I have to agree with you 100% in that it's a masterpiece. I know 'Crazy' is too but 'I Fall to Pieces' just pips it for me.
We have some talented singers now too. It's just the music business that forces artists to use it, convincing them they aren't marketable without it. Here's hoping that tendency fades with time, and that in the near future artists insist on clean recordings with the management of the label they're signed to. PS: wanted to add that although artists of the past didn't have auto-tune, in all fairness some of them DID use some overdubbing effects during recording.
@@sadee1287 ...I agree with you.. Alot of today's real artists are not signing with major labels because they don't want to be a "product". They want to be able to play and show their gifts. Most of the people I listen to are not radio personalities they are real musicians and singers!
Patsy Cline is one of the greatest. I grew up on this. When I was 21 with a newborn baby, the baby's father left us stranded in a dumpy trailer with no money and one lightbulb. The only thing that kept me sane was singing her entire greatest hits album to my baby over and over for a few months until I could get some help. Patsy saved my sanity! And probably my life.
she as well as frank sinatra had a singing voice something that ordinary singers did not have it's as if when she speaks normally it sounds like she is singing.
As a 70 year old woman, I am delighted that you are finding these beautiful iconic singers and artists with amazing raw talent. I love how you love Patsy too. The dance floor would fill up with everyone wanting to dance slow to ‘Crazy” anytime this was played. Keep up your great work. You make me smile.
I'm 68 and loving hearing and seeing these songs being heard again. Watching Amber and Jay and their reaction just warms my heart and gives hope that music will bring people together again. Music is timeless, the messages still rings true today and have as much meaning now as then. No matter our age, our hearts still beat to the same tune, we all have so much in common.
There seem to be a lot of “vintage” viewer/listeners. We seem to be hovering around 70. I love to watch your reactions because they are so honest and they come from the heart. Music was so important to us. It was a solitary pursuit (listening to records in your bedroom) or a group activity (dances at school, teen club, or youth group). The lyrics spoke for us: what we were thinking, what our fears were, how much we loved someone, and how felt pain when we were hurt. My music is the soundtrack of my life. Thanks, Jay & Amber ✌🏼❤️
Patsy is a Goddess in my world !!!!! Patsy was Loretta Lynn’s best friend when Patsy passed away , they had been on tour together Loretta Lynn was pregnant at the time of the plane crash . Loretta named one of her twin daughters Patsy ….. Loretta Lynn is also a Goddess of Country Music deep well to dive into …. I sure hope y’all are pre-taping for the week of and weeks after your sweet baby boy is born … scared I’m going to go thru withdraws if no videos dropping …. Lord help me
One thing to remember NOT to overlook when going down the music road of older songs... THERE IS NO DO OVER! They are live recordings and they couldn't "fix" things like pitch, flubbed words, etc. This brings an even bigger wow factor to those who sang back then... TRUE TALENT.
They most certainly did have the ability to record in studio and use production techniques such as mixing and effects like echo. They could also splice and rearrange the audio as desired, adding or subtracting percussion or changing the layering of vocals over instrumentation. These weren't "scratch vocals" as it's called in the music business. This video was in no way live - she's lip synching her studio recording in front of the camera. That's not to take away anything from Patsy's vocal abilities. Her studio recording was not overproduced (and a good music producer knows the difference between too much and too little), so the pure quality and range of her voice is maintained.
Patsy is LEGIT one of the greatest singers of all time. Her purity of tone, warmth, and the emotion she pours into every note are unmatched. Gone, way, WAY too soon.
She was recording for eight years, not 3. As far as I'm concerned, the finest female country singer ever. One of the finest voices of the 20th century. The list women singers that admire her is looooong
Another artist with major Patsy vibes... who I don't actually expect them to react to because she never really became a big name... was Mandy Barnett. Her 1996 debut album was eerily Patsy-esque.
Patsy was amazing. She was the first female country singer who had the nerve to be sexy. She was not treated well in her early career by her partner but she came through and became a role model for singers like Loretta Lynn and Dolly Parton.
"Crazy" was one of the first big hits written by Willie Nelson. Even more impressive, this song holds the title of the all-time #1 played record in jukeboxes!! This is one of her four big Country hits that also hit the Top 20 on the pop charts.
If anyone wants to know more about Patsy Cline, the movie Sweet Dreams, is about her. |It starred Jessica Lange and Ed Harris in 1985. Also, Patsy was a mentor for Lorretta Lynn. The movie Coal Miner's Daughter starring Sissy Spacek (Lynn) and Beverly DÁngelo (Cline) were first class. Both actresses trained their voices to sound like the Country Superstars they were playing.
Written by the one and only Willie Nelson. Although he doesn't own the rights to it. My bad, I had to look it up. It isn't Willie Nelson who doesn't have the rights to the song but Bob Seger who doesn't have the rights to "Old Time Rock N Roll". They are the two most played songs on jukeboxes of all time.
An interesting historical fact , the Song "Crazy" by Patsy Cline , continues to this day to be the most played song on jukeboxes world-wide. That is just mind blowing !!
Patsy Cline is legendary and Iconic who's gone to soon tragically. Even her biography is legendary. RIP to our heavenly country music singer Patsy Cline.
Many people say this is the most perfectly-sung song of all time. Every delay, every bent note, every soft breath. The legend is that she was sick with a fever and said "I'll give you one take, boys."
Saw her sing that at her ranch in '94 acapella and she is amazing! You could have heard a pin drop and she didn't need the microphone her voice is soooooo strong. You could have heard a pin drop when she started to sing! Such a sweet lady as well!
This is old school country. And you are absolutely right! They didn’t have our technology. They just got up and sang with a basic microphone. No auto tune, no layering, and real band playing instruments in real time. So I respect the people like you who are checking it out for yourselves and sharing how awesome these singers were. ❤
This song was written by Willie Nelson and contributed to his early fame. Her voice makes the hair on the back of your neck stand up. So many incredible recordings. Check out "Walkin' After Midnight" or "Sweet Dreams", you won't be disappointed! :-)
Patsy had the greatest voice of ANY singer. There’s no telling where, or how far, her career would have gone had she not died so young and not even having reached the top of her career yet. I think she would hold every record on the books forever had she not passed away. The epitome of what a pure vocalist should be.
This song is part of her ONLY album. That was released after her death. Imagine if she had lived and the music she could have made! The song was written by singer songwriter ICON Willie Nelson. Willie also wrote Night Life, On The Road Again and MANY MANY others. Crazy has been covered more than 92 times by other artists.
Written in the back of a cab in Houston! Willie worked a club on one side of Houston, but he lived right on the other side of town, so the cab ride home was his writing time.
They used to call her "the woman with a teardrop in her voice". She was amazing. She died so tragically and so young. In addition to the other Patsy Cline songs people have suggested here, you should check out her song "She's Got You".
@@lisalotwin3154 George Martin, Gus Dudgeon and Tony Visconti were great music producers. Today's producers create music that are worse than demos of the 60's. A great example is Neil Diamond's Cherry Cherry which is a demo recording. After doing a studio version decided to go with the demo. Have Neil's 12 Songs and After Dark. Both albums are poorly produced. The same can be said for Bob Dylan's Time Out Of Mind which won an Emmy for best album.
Patsy was a staple in our house when I was growing up, therefore I knew every word of this song. She was amazing, many great songs. In Texas we have a Patsy Cline Tribute Band and they’ve been around for years. The girl who does Patsy, almost gets those notes, but just a hair off. There will never be another Patsy.
Patsy Cline was ahead of her time. She was NOT a country singer, they just had her singing country music. She should have been singing blues, soul, or jazz. But, I'm glad she sang country music, because it is how I learned to love her....A Legend...
Oh yes. Patsy is another one, like Karen Carpenter, who should have been recording big band era standards...and doubtless would have done had she not left us so terribly soon.
Crazy sounds like a standard song to me. I don't claim to be knowledgeable about what makes a song fit into whatever genre, but I don't see what makes this a country song, other than we all think of Patsy Cline as a country singer.
@@natescott3832 You are so right. Especially back in the late 50's, early 60's. This song did not fit the Country genre. But, that is how they billed it and Patsy Cline. I am just grateful that we were blessed with her beautiful voice.
This song was written by Willie Nelson if you can believe that! Like others you've covered, Buddy Holly, John Denver, Jim Croce, etc. Patsy died on March 5, 1963 in an airplane crash. She was a mentor and friend of Lorretta Lynn, who even named one of her twin daughters Patsy in her honor. A voice like hers comes along once in a lifetime.
Yes that is my favourite. unfortunately, it was kind of ruined after sadistic serial killer Mick Taylor from Wolf Creek was playing it whilst dismembering one of his victims!
She almost didn't record it. Willie has such weird phrasing when he sings, and she didn't think she could do the song. Listen to Willie"s version--it's much "choppier".
Patsy Cline, is legendary in Counrty music. This is old school, true contry music. And Dolly Is from the same era of legends. Charlie Pride.....is a must. His voice has a deep rich tone that is soothing to experience, as well.
Patsy is the Queen of Country, she is the greatest female singer in the genre, and she is the one whonall the frames in country, aspire to...We all love Patsy... She was killed in a plane crash...She is Country Music's Angel..
She was amazing unfortunately we lost her in a airplane crash she had so much more music that she never got to share. I will suggest walking after midnight! love the reaction
@@wendydouglas425 Constant Craving is my favourite or Turn Me Round which she did a fantastic job of at the 1988 Calgary Olympics, link below. There has never been a better spontaneous response to any Olympic act that I can recall. Apropos to this thread, early in her career, kd fancied herself a reincarnation of Patsy Cline ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-sxsUc6EdeRQ.html
@Barry Katz The way I read it, it was just a recommendation for another singer who has an amazing voice in the vein of Patsy Cline. You see those kinds of recommendations frequently on channels like this.
@Barry Katz I have commented on other posts with names of other Canadian artists. As for why it Lang on this Patsy Cline video - Lang started her career as the singer in a Cline cover band,
This was recorded before high fidelity audio was even invented, and still her voice is still so clear and pure over the static. She's definitely once the top five female singers of all time. With Etta James, Dolly, Allison Kraus, and Dion Warwick.
Alison Krauss. We all have our favorites. When I heard Alison for the first time, I was hooked. As a fan of many of an eclectic assortment of genres, that's happened with very few singers and composers I've come across. No disrespect to the other four mentioned here, they are great singers in their own right and I like them. It's just that Alison's gift is so powerful and clean and hits me in the depth of my soul and spirit. Beautiful.
Singing a Patsy Cline song is the yardstick many people use to see how other women vocalists can hang. There are some ladies out there who do Patsy's songs justice, but she will always own them. Give walkin' after midnight a try next.
suzanne here, my son died 1 year ago this week, jan 13th 2022, and this was his favorite song but he was a love of all types of music, but this was his fav song, he always wanted this played at his funeral, he told me, i think he knew even back then, with his issues he would die young , which he did, and when i hear this it breaks my heart for him, i miss him so much. he was so smart and talented but he had mental issues, and finally overdosed for the last time on jan 13th, guess you could say i still am heart broken to put it mild. she is one of the best singers of all time NO doubt of it.
This song was written by none other than Willie Nelson! Patsy originally didn't want to do it! But she passed away after a plane crash in 1963. And in the video, the live shots in the video were from a TV show she did a few months after a horrific car crash she was in. The headband was holding a wig on her head. Other songs to listen to: "Walkin' after Midnight", "I fall to pieces", "Please Come Home, Bill Bailey", "Blue Moon of Kentucky", "Back in Baby's Arms", "Three Cigarettes in the Ashtray", "San Antonio Rose", "Sweet Dreams", and "A Poor Man's Rose (or a Rich Man's Gold)." She's one of the most important figures in country music!
Quite possibly the greatest female singer of all time. An absolute legend who left us too soon. And one of the greatest songs of all time, written by the iconic Willie Nelson.
Patsy was an amazing talent. So sad that we lost her at such a young age. So glad that she sang this song. Although Willie wrote and performed it as well...NOBODY delivered it like Patsy did.
“Crazy” as it seems to consider, the reality is that Patsy Cline’s marvelous voice was completely untrained. She was known for her ability to make a perfect studio recording in one take. In 1961, at the height of her fame, Patsy had a near fatal car accident. That didn’t impact her voice. In fact, while she was recovering from the crash she gave us this iconic performance, Crazy, and she did it all in one take.
When you factor on the short time Patsy was with us, it's really remarkable to see the everlasting legacy she left behind. One can only imagine what the world could have had with just 10 more years of Patsy. #LegendsNeverDie
Patsy Cline is a rabbit hole definitely worth going down! I'm 51 and she's been my favorite female singer since I was 17. Her voice is sheer perfection.
I love Patsy, I grew up listening to her beautiful voice & was devastated when she passed away so young😢 Crazy is written by Willie Nelson 💥Not sure if you have watched Sweet Dreams a movie about her life 🥰 Walking After Midnight is another great Patsy song 💎💎💎
Omg, Hearing patsy Cline singing this again after soo many years, had me crying like I did when the News came out that she died in the plane crash. Such a beautifully talented woman who left this world entirely much too soon.
Pasty was my grandmother's childhood friend and i grew up listening to her. You should really listen to LeAnn Rimes singing the tribute to Pasty Cline. She is the only person who could ever come close to sounding like Pasty .
