bud389 i think it's the fact that there are clueless idiots who call him a noob because werster always rage, blah blah blah, he only uses 1 pokemon, blah blah blah, yeah you get the point. Clueless idiots who don't know werster is speedrunning.
kniter I don’t think people need to be mad at him to point out he can be toxic and lose himself at times. It’s a genuine character flaw of his and point of criticism.
More like "His execution is fine, but he just doesn't seem to have the Asperger's." ... (Note my (correct) placement of the period *within* the quotation marks)
Everybody talking nonsense about Werster, but to be fair, he does actually compliment the runner when he gets it right. Take a look at the moment at 6:09 - Werster practically soils himself at the guy's good run. So don't act like he's a complete arsehole when he just really, _really_ cares about the game. That's all.
Yeah because Pokemon is a monotonous press a button or two and watch the animation (that they refuse to let you turn off by the way) play themselves and you’re left there waiting.
"his execution is good, it's like he just doesn't know much about the game in this aspect" anyone else notice that some of his criticisms are constructive?
he always calls out the good stuff as well, hes not just shit talking. but people would just rather complain because it's 2016 and we must save our delicate sensibilities (while also making fun of other people's different delicate sensibilities, very important for te full package)
All you're presenting Rai is your own snowflake sensibilities. Werster offers nothing constructive, because he presumes it's "no knowledge". What does that even mean?
This is why he's one of my favorite runners. I wish I had him coaching me. I feel like if I had him yelling "Rubbish" at me I would strive to be better. This makes me want to get back to my speed training.
I find it funny how people hate on Werster for the way he talked in here. They fail to see how upsetting it is when someone representing a game that you are "the best" at, in front of over 100,000 viewers is failing to give the correct knowledge out. Had that guy said things like "I'm not sure if this is a frame perfect move" or "I need to do some more research on this particular level," he would not have been hard on him. So Werster gets upset and yells at his TV..... Have you ever yelled at your screen when a ref makes a bad call? I could go on for days, but I'd rather not.
The Game Corner Are you 12 years old? Have you never experienced anything in the "real" world? Not only are those games his passion, but they are his job. If you were to talk about how Barcelona plays their matches and start giving out statistics that were false in front of over 100,000 people... those players would get pissed off too. As to him saying that when it was a charity stream... he was talking on his own personal stream which has absolutely 0 to do with the charity. The guy himself attends those charity events at least once a year. He finds them to be a great cause. Where do you come off telling him he is a cunt? Grow up.
Some people need to realise that if you cant take criticism you will never improve. I am 100% positive that when werster got into sonic speed running he got criticised by all kinds of people who were better than him, but instead of giving up he took it on board and improved to become good enough where he could criticise others. I hope the runner on stream took it well, and bear this in mind before you start rushing to defend his pride. Rational criticism makes you stronger if you accept it, even if it hurts to hear.
Do you blame him for being annoyed? This guy is being portrayed as a top tier speedrunner for Sonic 2 by playing it at an event like this. Werster's record is literally 10 minutes faster than the one he had just watched.
@@Masami_Salami Yeah watching someone fuck up is cringe and funny for sure, but Werster is an old school speedrunner who probably preferred when the community wasn't infested with incompetents trying to emulate random people they saw on twitch.
@@hype5456 Instead, he should be completely dispassionate about a game he's played through hundreds of times. That sounds like a human trait if I ever heard of one.
Phil has actually gotten better lately - something seemed to change after the jerking off on stream incident. He used to be a trainwreck you couldn't turn away from, but now he's just a boring streamer.
I love this vid. Werster only gives credit where it's due. The guy running this game just didn't know enough about it to make a good run. Werster commended the shining moments but bashed him for bad strats and spouting bullshit frame numbers, as he should. It's one thing to play badly but worse to misinform people while doing it. I don't think this should scare anyone off from being a speedrunner, if anything just do a better job. TLDR; Don't be lazy in your runs.
It's really a shame I'm seeing so much hate on werster in the comments here. You guys have to realize that the man had been up for 27+ hours straight which only makes him more brutally honest than he already is, and because he's watching a run that he's great at he's sure to just grill the runner(s), especially since he's not there and they can't hear him. It's easy to hate on werster if you don't know the guy, but I watch him all the time and he's so cynical, blunt and negative it's hilarious, and I found his commentary on this run to be a prime example of him being a funny asshole.
TheRabbitFear Thank you for that vague anecdotal evidence. I will place it in my "I don't give a shit" file. Every single piece of footage I've seen of the guy shows him to be a complete dick with no social skills whatsoever.
What a clickbait-y title...More like Werster does a brutally honest commentary. There's no rage here. He even compliments the runner when he does something right.
I never get tired of watching this lol. I just like how much he rips on Naegleria for all the shit he comes out with. He's a weird speed runner he seems more like a fan of speed runners than an actual runner himself who shows up for comedy value.
You need to understand that Werster knows alot about the games he runs. He held the Sonic 2 speedrun WR, he knows his shit and has grounds to criticize some random guy at a marathon.
When you start out in anything some of the criticism won't be in a nice way but it's down to your character what happens next. If Werster tore me to pieces like this I'd be thinking "I'll show you" and I'd want to learn how to get good. I play a lot of MMO's so I'm used to people who are top players tearing up other players they earned that right. It's down to you to prove a point and earn the respect of others. Werster did compliment the things he did well.
MxMoondoggie That's true, criticism can help you grow if you can't see exactly what you're doing wrong. He did compliment the things that the runner performed well in, but I felt a clear contrast between the commendations and the "That's pathetic, what are you doing?"s. It's probably just a personal thing, it simply rubbed me the wrong way. I'm sure the speedrunner community, Werster included, is a wonderful group of people with many different ways to relay tips and tricks to get started or save single frames. eomdri Perhaps not at the moment, but maybe I will in the future. This comment may have been just a temporary reaction to the video. Given how big a part of my life revolves around gaming, it's almost unthinkable that I won't touch upon speedrunning sometime in my life. Sorry if I sounded like a whiny little bitch in the original comment, I tend to swing that way on worse days.
Kaera Neko Speed running is what u make of it. If you want to be super competitive, you can without being rude about it. However, you can't control how other people are. Also, if you just want to get better at a game and play it quick, you can learn a run and beat your own times instead of worrying about what others think about your runs. If you're thinking about speed running, I would. It can be frustrating ,but it's really rewarding when you get a good run.
I find it funny that people are so bent out of shape about this.... Like, the runner is acknowledging that he's doing horrible WHILE he's running, and people are upset with Werster because he's raging about the game? Like do you even understand how good Werster is?
to be honest he was correcting some wrong information that the speedrunner was giving, he did commend the speedrunner on some of the things he did right.
How to torture Werster - make him watch people do suboptimal speedruns. Should make him watch somebody else do Pokemon Stadium 100% runs done by anyone other than him
I want to git gud at speedrunning just to watch him and others react when I deliberately always catch the mascot Legendaries in Pokemon games and explain every FUCKING time because "they're strong and obviously should help do this faster".
tomisj777 That's because the game he runs is pokemon, and so much of the game is RNG. Who else can he blame when some bullshit crit/miss/secondary effect/poor damage range/bad randomized attack/bad random encounter/bad pokeball happens?
CandyCosmic Yet he still chooses to run these games despite that. He has no right to complain about such things the way he does, he willingly chooses to run such a luck based game.
Except for the part where, you know, the runner wasted time. Even if he can't reset, he wasted time on a lot of occasions. Like choosing to die towards the start.
***** The thing is that this run was made in a marathon, and you do not reset in a marathon unless you fail in like some RNG manipulation or softlock the game. Werster Tries to get a PB always.
***** Well sort of. The one that went horribly wrong was the Knuckles in Sonic 2 race and he even said that it was crappy for him it still wasn't as bad as this run. He never messed up on an actual trick or zip though as far as i can recall in his Sonic runs and he pulls off some really difficult ones flawlessly in Sonic 3 and Knuckles. This guy in Sonic 2 messes up really simple zips. Just look at the one Werster does in Marble Garden in Sonic 3 and Knuckles at AGDQ it's ridiculous how fast he does it.
to be fair to some of wersters comments he is right about speed runners and other kinds of professional players in various games always claiming "one frame tricks" mostly out of laziness to be specific, or trying to brag about skills which drives me nuts too xD in general 80% of those claims are BS and are waaay more than a single frame, SSBM comes to mind...
I like how Werster thought he was hitting speed cap on purpose, when he didn't bother to listen to the explanation that it was a controller malfunction.
I kinda understand werster. Me playing competitive mario kart for almost 8 years now and mario kart 8 since release the agdq run of mk8 gave me so much aids and cringe that i questioned life. So im not even different. however i highly doubt wersters disliking the runner he just cant stand the fact the whole potential of the game isnt being shown and wrong information got spread and he cannot interrupt. I know that feel so much.
Australian shitposting, In real life! wersters cool though, the other guy could have done better, but he probably was just trying not to screw up on the biggest speedrun event of the year, so I don't blame him either.
I don't know much about this concept, but I think there's a difference between "THE FASTEST SPEEDRUN TO END ALL SPEEDRUNS" and just a casual quick playthrough of a game, showing off interesting and funny shit that you can exploit to those new to this while contributing to a good cause. This Werster guy seems to treat this stream like the former. It's pretty fucking funny to laugh at at least.
He expects people to run games like he would. The thing is that he's WAY better than most people when it comes to explaining a run as he does it, so he normally says how things realistically are when he runs at AGDQ. He also takes games tht he runs seriously very personally. Also, to be fair, you really should know the game well if you're going to run at one of these events. You haven't seen how the chat reacts when people not named Blueglass (YSG) screw up all the time.
NDogg15 The guy in the video did and said some cool things that people who've played Sonic 2 might not have had known about, and he did it within the estimated time frame and for a good cause. He made mistakes, he wasn't the best, but I don't think the goal was to be the fastest and most perfect for this specific playthrough. Though I do understand what you're saying, I just think the dude overreacted and insulted this guy from the wrong perspective.
Sadly this reminds me one of my professors when I was expected to write a good essay but ended up a bad one. Werster forgot that he holds the 4th world record of this game and not everyone is as good as him.
Maybe you'd be right if he was commentating on some rando logging his progress for a small audience on youtube. Its not out of line at all though, because this was at a convention that showcases the best players in the entire world....
This guy is the reason why I don't bother getting deeper into the speedrunning community. I only watch during AGDQ and the other events. And that's only because i'm supporting the cause, not so much the runners. People like this guy is way too common from what i've seen. Just these wannabe elitists with a god complex because they can play a video game fast. They need a quick jolt back into reality honestly.
This shit happens in every single community ever. It's just that the largest twits stick out the most. Don't let it stop you from getting into the SR community or hell even in speedrunning itself.
you need a quick jolt back into reality. werster is exceptional in the amount of knowledge and skill and effort he puts into his craft. he's allowed to downtalk. what are you exceptional in? not much? thought so
Rai Win Advancing in skill gives you no right to degrade as a human being. Why do you think people laugh at this video? I'm sure Werster isn't all demons, but I feel little for him as one.
