As far as security and practicality go, I'd call this a "convenience" lock (small and light, easy to store attached to anywhere on the bike frame) good for short stops in well trafficked areas. But even the fact that it's a disk detainer increases security a bit, since the tools for them are less prevalent. This is the first time I seen someone other than the inventors (Bosnian Bill & LPL) use that particular tool. I also noticed a slight difference in the key. This key has rounded edges, where all other DD lock keys I have seen have flat sides and edges that are perfect right angles.
yr 1 of my favourite u tubers because u actually reply to comments and ur content is amazing and almost 100k subs congrats 🥳 🎂 cant wait 4 u to brake the 100k barrier 💯 u 110% deserve it
I bought it and the manual says "Zinc alloy and alloy Steel" (Dont know which is fo the casing and which is for the chain) ... so I won't trust my bike with it alone. I'll just use it for the places where my mini-D-Lock doesn't fit, still with the mini-D-Lock clamping the wheel to the frame. (Don't wanna carry the bulk of a usual D-lock around)
The Amazon page for this lock, posted by the manufacturer, claims that this is a aluminum alloy steel, which would be somewhat magnetic. Would this likely be less resistant to brute force attacks than regular stainless steel?
It claimes this £18 lock is anti grinder proof, lock picking proof security rivets it's made out to be the absolute best that diamond grade can't even do! I'd be really interested to see this in a test! It would be the solve of bike locks if their Claims were true one bit!
Would love to see a video of disc detainer locks with the graphics you used to do. I have a bit of a hard time visualizing the mechanics. I've opened a few, but it feels more like luck instead of skill.
Brilliant love to Send west biking this! Have you seen the security claims they have against this lock? It would make it the best lock ever oh and suppose to be unpickible ha!
There’s a new round of Sponsored ads on Facebook selling a re-branded one of these. The video for the ad is absolute comedy; shows someone attempting to hacksaw it, bolt cutter it and angle grind it for 1 second each to imply it’s resistant. 🤦♂️

I avoid that for the most part as I feel it gives the hobby a bit of a bad image. it’s already a hard concept for the general public. No shade on those that do show it, it’s just not my thing.
Fantastic picking Ash! Looks half decent for a quick nip into the shop, not so much an over night lock. Thanks for sharing and enjoy the rest of your week mate.
It's only a matter of time before some lock company stumbles onto the marketing strategy of 'make interesting looking locks for locksporters to buy!' They'll make a fortune!
It looks a bit prone to a destructive attack, but that lock core would stop most people from trying to pick it, and make them go and look for an easier target. And that's the main function of a security device. That 'Tool TBBALPL Built' is very useful, but your picking skills are still awesome! Thanks Ash. 🙂👍 Does it open to a sharp hammer blow to the midriff, as some locks do?
Hey lock noob, I just finished watching your “pocket smith” tool video and noticed that it isn’t sold in your shop. Is this an idea you are pursuing and might want feedback on? I’d rather not post any ideas publicly, obviously, but I was just curious if this was a tool you were wanting to pursue. Not looking to make a buck or anything just enjoy your videos and figured I might have some ideas that could help. 😁
You know that's about the stupidest thing I think I've ever heard the lock is designed to lock up a bike and you're saying that it's not made or you shouldn't use it to lock your bike up with make no sense to me
Erm...I believe what the video is saying is that while this lock is *intended* to secure a bicycle, its quality, and the paucity of security it offers, is such that it is not fit for purpose and that there are better options. Hope this helps.
@@MichaelMaynard never in my life have I seen a bike theif pick a lock, not one. its always bolt cutters or more recently some of them will use grinder. This is a pointless video since 95% of bike jackers are meth heads and it takes skills to pick any lock.
1 step away from the pc 4 like 30 seconds then u upload utube tryna make me never be 1st any more but I proved them wrong so lucky no 1 else commented in the first 30 seconds
