I was at the final game of the season 9.5.87. That day West Ham fans were out of this world, they applauded the city fans all the way to the station. I thought we were in for a battle and to be fair we were ready for it but the hammers fans lined the streets to salute us . We just were relegated but its still my best ever away day. I will always have a soft spot for the hammers. Top club, top fans. credit to your club.

As a ST holder I disagree. Whilst the old Upton Park was a great watch as you were so close to the pitch, the ground and especially the area around it was a dire shithole. Much prefer drinks and food by the canal before the game, being able to get a beer at half time and actually bring to use the toile now… than the derelict pubs, greasy spoons and terrible over crowding at Upton Park

The whole thing about Geordies being super passionate is down to the fact that there's only one big team in the city. Man City fans really impressed me, back when they were relegated down into the third tier, and carried on getting full houses, all while their neighbours United were winning every trophy under the sun. I'm an Everton fan, by the way.
Trouble is even if they get their money out you're still going to struggle. I don't like the way football has gone now. If you aren't one of the top 5 you are in a battle to stay up. They have far too much money now for anyone else to compete. The clubs that come down have too much money for two many seasons. Money has turned the game shit if you don't support Chelsea or one of the Manchester clubs.
As a Hammer myself of 50 years standing, I find this very sad. Sad, but inevitable, and unfortunately, very necessary. It is just the tip of the iceberg, Gold, Sullivan, Brady and co have turned the club into a bank as have all other "successful" teams. can a west ham fan explain to me why theres such mass protests... before these owners came in west ham from what i can see were a borderline premierleague side who were relegated a number of times and also havent won a significant trophy since the 1970s
afromp - i agree, my first match following Newcastle was 1984 and since then West Ham have been in the championship ( as it is now ) a few times and only ever hovered mid table or below that from what i can remember, they should have experienced Mike Ashley for the past coming up 11 years at Newcastle, even now giving Benitez peanuts and Ashley does not even turn up for most games, i don't know what exactly they expect?
It's got nothing to do with league position or relegation. The board sold our home for a rented soulless athletics stadium. They have destroyed everything that made West Ham what it was. They promised us that we would be close to the pitch, they promised us that the move would enable big investment in the playing squad. Thy have done nothing but lie and asset strip the club.
I hated it when West Ham were moved out of their old ground, it kills the spirit of the club. (Welsh Arsenal fan). Btw, I don't like the Emirates either, too soulless and quiet.
The way to protest is to not go to the games & peacefully strike, stopping other fans from going to games. (Not being abusive, threatening, aggressive). If Dad & his kids turn up, let them through & tell them to cheer loudly for the team. Lack of gate receipts will get change far more than screaming abusive rhymes will.
Matt I think it’s quite clear that the majority didn’t condone the pitch invasion as they were hurling abuse at them and hitting them while they were running up the stairs
