Awesome bro! We are thinking the same with shelter setup, I got the Snugpak Stratosphere along with and alton goods tarp setup. Hope you enjoy the trip!
I had a nightmare with the Snugpak Stratosphere, you'll have to let me know how you get on with it. My DD tarp really saved the day. Ive heard good things about the Alton Goods tarps
It came in handy a few times. From crafting up a walking stick/pole for tarp to removing ticks... I had a few on this trip. I'd have been a lot worse off without it
Great video mate....48l is a great capacity, I agree....thank you for sharing your kit...its useful to see how others pack..fwiw, I've got a Caribee 50l Ops pack (which is brilliant) and a Caribee 70l Auscam backpack (also brilliant)
Like what you are choose for you sleep system ( bivi and tarp) that what i am using on my long trek of 925 km across the french Pyrénées... you should be fine with it ... go for it ...Dazzy !!!
The Snugpak stratosphere was a let down unfortunately. Although I can see that setup really working well with just a different bivvy. Good luck on your trek!
The forclaz travel pillow is a good cheap alternative to that trekology one mate. Weighs only a little more and much more comfortable. Good luck on your hike!
Well hindsight is a wonderful thing and you already admitted it was a mistake to not have taken the Mossie Head Net. I think I would have gone for sprays/lotions too and some lightweight gloves to keep those Midges off my hands. The DD Superlight turned out to be a lifesaver. Extra weight, I know, but do you ever utilise GAITERS to keep your lower legs dry and they combine okay with a Poncho. BTW, I loosely tie my Ridgeline around my waist a couple of wraps or more to stop it flapping about in heavy winds, but not too tight so as to stop airflow blowing up underneath. I reckon that was a great loadout. The GAS lasted, the food lasted with the odd Fish n Chips, but not a single BEER - that's hardcore going without beer. 😁
You’re right definitely more bug protection gear for Scotland. I never really have a problem in England but they’re another level up there. I would like to try the tarp combined with a bug net next. Also what a great idea with the ridgeline… proper Rambo style, love it! What I was also thinking next time is just to hike in shorts and a rain jacket, but as the months get colder maybe I should look at gaiters. Appreciate the comment man! Atb
@@DazzyOutdoors Yeah, just protect yourself against TICKS, Midges and Mossies' whilst doing shorts. I really detest summer, no escape from Blood Suckers and I wasn't meaning the Politicians either. 😉
I have the same Snugpak poncho. Trust me and spray it with the waterproof spray of your choice before you go. Mine is definitely not waterproof over extended downpours, or it wasn't before I treated it. Of course I could have got a dodgy one but worth mentioning just in case.... Edit... just realised I've commented after you left, oops lol
A hooped bivi a tarp & a poncho? I'm interested to see how your system works. Looks like you have thought about everything. You are right if you didn't wrap up those batteries so well it would piss down, but now you have it should be dry & sunny for you. Also steri tabs are meant for 1 liter measures you have the 1.2 clean canteen? And where's the whiskey??
Ah man that hooped Bivvy was a nightmare! Hopefully i've captured how bad it was. Starting the editing today so i'll see. I used a few of those steri tabs but shortly after I came across a drinking water tap so I ended up switching it out. Haha no whiskey on this trip. I think I've earned on tonight though!
Every time I used a purification tab I shortly after came across a drinking water tap so I just switched it out. Also I was trying to be brave without midge net.... I ended up buying one on route haha
If you go down the waterproof trousers route again, they work great if you wear gaiters and you cut the waterproof trouser legs off just below the knee. Then just pull them on over your boots, and when it rains, they drain onto your gaiters. You stay dry and don't sweat so much either.
Great idea. Even just the gaitors combined with the poncho would have been really good. My trousers did get wet on the trip but they also dried out pretty quick. In the colder months though, I might not be as lucky
