IT IS LIKE A SLUM IT IS NOT THE PROPERTY'S ITS THE PEOPLE WHAT LIVE THERE .WINGROVE ROAD AND ELSWICK ROAD HAD A LOT OF HIGH CLASS PEOPLE LIVING THERE.I COULD CRY WHEN I SEE THIS.I AM IN MY 80th YEAR AND COULD NEVER RETURN TO THIS HOVEL AGAIN IN MY LIFE.

This was my daily walk to school, Rutherford, from 1965 to 1972. In 6th form we would walk back to the Fish'n Chippy on Wingrove Road most days. My mums friend worked there, we would hand over our money and get the same amount back in different coins! Whatever we saved went on draft cider and No 6 at the weekend from the Brighton Grove offy (still there) Definitely a bit different now. Thanks.

Walked from the west Rd down Stanhope St a few times recently to St James Pk to see the game and felt like a Stranger in my own country???? WTF!..... I'm a Benwell lad but have lived nr Glasgow for 30 yrs as the place I came from is now a shithole and it is because if you import 3rd world, you get 3rd world. The West End that used to be the best end has fallen to those who like a large golden globe on their roof.

I was going to go to India for my holidays but I stayed at home and had day trips to The West Road, Newcastle. Just as good and costs less.

I used to live near the Hindu Temple as an undergraduate Student at Newcastle University (2011-2014) The place barely changed, as typical with most towns/cities in UK. Thanks for the nostalgia trip, got to re-live my undergraduate years a little bit Watching this from a fancy shopping mall in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China :)

Ive just cime across ,i was born in the General & said ' Wingrive Rd before it showed the street sign.Rutherford School on the right .Only yellow buses then. What would make walks more interesting is if dialogue was included , explaining street names etc .

This must have been earlier in the day cos west road always so busy ,. And when i was about 15yrs Many moons ago i would walk the west road 5 days a week from north kenton where i was raised to my sissters who used to live on Cromwell street and it used to be a canny place . I wouldnt walk that way now not for a kings randsome , not the same place now , its a no go place now for my generation ,different cultures Different races and just a fifferent world west road from my younger years . Looks bit dirty and run down now shame😢
