From Stratford High School's Stratford Playhouse production of WEST SIDE STORY, here is "Maria" and "Tonight" featuring Collins Rush as Tony and Eliza Masewicz as Maria
It was Marnie Nixon dubbed over Natalie Wood's voice. Same in My Fair Lady (dubbed over Audrey Hepburn). NOW... if you love this gal Eliza in THIS, check her out in their 2015 production of Bye Bye Birdie! Also on RU-vid. She's lily white and blonde! Her vocals in that are every bit as amazing - especially in "One Boy" and "Lotta Living to Do."
the talent level of these young people is truly amazing. it must be very fulfilling for a teacher to work with them and see how much they can do. As another commenter wrote below: thank you Mr Moore!
He definitely doesn't fit the role of Tony physically. He looks like a skinny geek. Sorry, but both Tony & Maria must be attractive in order for the audience to buy the relationship.
biancamilano okay, uh, first of all, attractiveness is subjective. second of all, no, the actors don’t have to both be attractive for the audience to buy the relationship. they have to be good actors with chemistry onstage. to imply that performance and believability is based on them both matching up to your standards of what is attractive is pretty ignorant.
You were superb! Tony did his best but you were stratospheric! Your tonal control is amazing! And a very fitting tribute to the late great Marni Nixon! I am an old fart now and I have seen this show so many times - but you really nailed it! I hope you are seriously working towards a career? Drama school? My warmest regards and all the very best for the future. I know REAL talent when I see it - and it doesn't come from AI or the X factor - it comes from sheer hard work - and you can tell you worked really hard!
Thank you so much! This was truly humbling. I am currently studying vocal performance and do hope for some form of career in the arts, but only time and practice will tell where I end up. Pursuing the arts at the collegiate level is both freightning and beautiful and I can't wait to see where it takes me. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart.
Delighted to hear that! And may I say that, whilst studying, you try to go to as many open auditions as you can? I KNOW your hard work will pay off. Yes, you could easily become another social media sensation (and earn some decent bucks, too) but you need and deserve a much larger audience than that...Bon Chance!
Thank you !Wonderful job! I LOVE West Side Story. This is a great performance of Tonight. I was also particularly particularly moved by A Boy Like That/ I have a love. The aggressive physical blocking perfectly reflected the tragedy of the situation. I loved the way you delivered "You should know better". When Anita sank to the bed and cupped her head in her hands I was soaked with tears. All the best with your career!!!
This is a truly touching rendition of this duet. The two characters have real chemistry and the interactions feel unforced and genuine. I would love to see the whole production. Is there a full recording available? It is nice to see these characters sung by singers who are about the right age for the story - instead of seasoned 20 somethings with huge voices. Lovely and poignant.
I agree 100%. This is such a hard passage to deliver, the yearning and the magic of first love to be sung, spoken with respect and recognition for the tenderness of their love. This couple, they do it ! Beautiful to see.
Tony's voice is not as powerful as Maria's (hard to be at Maria's level anyway), but both are acting very very well ! They do it like pros, and as some people already said here in comments, it is really nice to see a version where actors have the real age of the characters !
So incredible together! I could see him as Joe Cable in South Pacific, Will Parker in Oklahoma, Cornelius Hackl in Hello Dolly, etc...and her as Julie in Carousel, Marian in Music Man, Laurey in Oklahoma, Eliza in My Fair Lady, etc. Pure gold!
I have never in my life been so absorbed in a live musical performance so completely and so immediately. Both of these actors are incredible. Tony wowed me with his vocal talent, range, and sheer vulnerability. His performance complemented Maria’s perfectly in every way. And their distinct vocal styles meshed in a way that made my jaw drop. I am very moved. Standing ovation!
Here is a question. When you buy the rights to mount a musical for a high school, are the songs lowered and shortened as compared to the professionals? My thinking is if it’s teen age boys and girls, they don’t want their vocal chords to hurt since they’re so young. I think these kids did so well! Acting wise and singing as well!
The actor playing Tony, Rush, has a pretty voice, I am glad they simplified the song to fit his vocal range, only wish he didn't pronounce MaRhia. Elisa looks very mature and has a wonderful voice and good acting ability, she could have performed this in professional theater. Congratulations to both.

@@thatperformer3879 It's just a matter of getting the timing right. He certainly had the range. Judging solely by the rest of his performance, there's nothing in that section of "Maria" that he couldn't have handled. I would be willing to bet the cut was more about time constraint than his voice.
@@dmnemaine Still doesn't excuse the fact that the characters are supposed to be non-white Puerto Ricans played by white actors in brown face why can't you just respect that if a role is meant for a POC and their race is stated in the text give it to a POC not everything is meant for y'all; there are plenty of roles for white people THIS isn't one of them it's okay to not have ONE thing
@@audramcdonaldapologist3676 It's not really an issue. Why not restrict Music Man to only Iowans? Do you have to be a baseball player to be one of the male chorus in Damn Yankees? Should only French people do Les Miserables?
