Good casting. The girl who played Velma actually looked a lot like Catherine Zeta-Jones from the movie! Good set too…most of the stage productions I’ve seen of this so far don’t even have the cell block in the background, kind of defeating the purpose. Choreography was pretty good too…much better than just running around the chairs like so many others do. BUT…it would be even better if there were male dancers representing the murder victims! Also, it’s not “messing with the milk man,” it’s “SCREWING the milk man!” 🪛 🥛 👨
The song was not part of the original musical in 1960. It was written for the 1963 movie and sung in the opening and closing credits by Ann-Margaret (who played Kim). Because of its catching toon, some stage productions incorporate this song, it was also popularized by "Mad Men". In the 1995 TV movie version, with Jason Alexander, this song was added.
My school is doing West Side Story this year. Having rehearsed the quintet today, I genuinely think we're not that far of of THIS performance. Which is quite a feat, and I'm soooo excited!!
To be true, I actually did this in my theater class in high school. I did some memorizing on that and I did mess up the first😅 But I did get better at the second time and I felt a little proud of that😊
