Have been going to Yellowstone for many years....trust me....this was a stroll...just moving along taking their time, no snorting, running, pounding of hoofs etc. Hope you enjoyed your trip, they are indeed a treat.
That is not a stampede. That is just Bison waltzing along to their own music. My wife and I had the same thing happen to us in the summer while we were riding our motorcycle. She was able to shelter in a vehicle behind us while I stood on their back bumper. It was certainly a "Wozer" experience.
@@donnatritz7865 there is another video on RU-vid of a herd charging over a bridge. Still now a stampede, the bison are just in a hurry not running hell bent for leather but still impressive. I love the animal jams at Yellowstone but especially the bison and elk.
Bison are my favorites! Do you remember how quiet they walk? can hardly hear them even as large as they are. they are magnificent. so glad you got to see this live and in person and appreciated them!
Great capture! What a thrilling experience. Years ago my son and I were at a Game Preserve that had a herd of bison. The only thing separating us was a _split rail fence!_ Two huge males decided to get into it, about 20 feet away. We ran - so did everyone else. The ground shook! Really shook.
This is pretty normal (and sedate, although that’s normal too) for Yellowstone, they bison are definitely king of the road. When I was little, around 4 or 5, my parents and I were having lunch on a picnic table in Yellowstone and a herd of bison really did come stampeding through- everybody had to jump up on the tables to get out of the way.
I lived in Bozeman, Montana for a few years. I've experienced the great bison shuffle. Played through herds of elk on three different golf courses. And one day in Yellowstone I came across a moose the size of a three quarter ton pickup. And last but not least...had a two year old bear walk up and take my fish and walk away like it was the drive through.
It's so beautiful seeing such a big herd. I understand by now there are surely a number of herds of similar size especially around Yellowstone but the devastation of the population around 150 years ago is almost unimaginable, I'm just so glad these beautiful creatures have survived. Looking at their population today, those are rookie numbers, we gotta pump those numbers up!
Original bison herds, it's believed, were the size of some U.S. states. I never saw or witnessed that. They were whittled down pretty good when the government decided to eliminate them.
The herd of bison is a beautiful sight, but this is hardly a 'stampede'. The bison are migrating calmly and it's so nice to see people staying in their cars and leaving the animals alone. Great footage!! Thanks for sharing. 👍
Y'all ... please re-write your headline/title. This is nothing akin to a "stampede". Y'all b'lieve me.. if this were a stampede, the morg would have been posting this video, and it would have looked much different. These Tatanka were blessing you. I have been up close to these lovely and awesome creatures numerous times. Keep calm. Keep safe distance. And enjoy the blessings. Y'all take care now.
Omg I love this. Reminds me when I drove through Yellowstone about 15 years ago by myself and came upon a herd right in front of me. I was petrified so much I didn’t video it. But the funny thing is a local drove up behind me and went stour me a slowly plowed through the herd. This gave me the courage to slowly push thru them. It was a day I will never forget. I still can see the alpha male side eyeing me as he came to check me out before the rest of the herd would pass. Love the video and thanks for sharing.
those bison can really give you a good side eye. I have some cool pictures from one of our trips. A small group just started plodding along with us; maybe 20 or so. and they were on both sides of the car, behind us and in front of us.
Yellowstone belongs to bison, we humans are just guests there. This majestic hump on their back is what gives bison the strength to defend and deter any predator. What bison do is they lower their head, go under the offender, and swing it up into the air. Those who experienced this and are alive would never go for the second try.
I had a bunch of bison walk past me in the Black Hills of South Dakota while riding my motorcycle. It's surreal when you're sitting on a motorcycle and a big ol bison walks past you, and you know that it flip you in the air with great ease. Fortunately I never got hurt. Just kept my cool.
That was a once in a lifetime experience...a true Yellowstone highlight ....thank you for sharing....The big ones blew my mind...SO strong, massive and beautiful.
You two couldn't possibly be cuter! I love your accents. I live in Montana & have been to Yellowstone many times. I never tire of being in the middle of a Buffalo Jam! They are amazing animals! A true testament to our Grand Creator.
Thank you so much. We loved visiting your state. Hope to have some more videos up soon. We had such a blast and to see all the amazing things. Hope to visit again soon. Thanks again for your kind words
Two things: Yellowstone is not for bison. They are migratory animals that are restricted from going through man made boundaries to feed at lower elevation. In the winter when it’s real cold it’s possible to walk within feet of a bison. It’s too much energy for them to do anything. Then in the spring the animals obviously need to put on some weight. Also, the original bison inhabitants of the park were wood bison which are extinct. The bison in the park are plains bison. Secondly, we call this a bison jam. It happens all over the park at any given time. If you come to Yellowstone you have a real good chance of driving through a bison jam. The last major culling of the herd was the harsh winter of 96-97. It’s possible there are more bison now than in the history of the park.
I worked in the Grand Tetons during the summer of 1996. I would go visit Yellowstone when I got the chance. I saw loner bison along side the road but never anything like this. So majestic!!🦬🦬🦬🦬🦬🦬🦬🦬🦬🦬🦬🦬🦬🦬🦬🦬🦬🦬🦬🦬🦬🦬🦬🦬🦬🦬🦬🦬🦬🦬
My best friend and her mother lives about 20 minutes outside the west gate of Yellowstone. That means I get lucky enough to visit every year for a couple of weeks. And I've never been lucky enough to see this. This is One-in-a-million once-in-a-lifetime experience that you were truly blessed with. just an FYI that large group of Buffalo is not called a stampede it's called a herd. Had there been a stampede you really would have had to worry about that car! 🙂
Glad you too appreciate the majesty of these bison. Thanks for recording this video and sharing it with us. I have been to Yellowstone twice, most recently in September. Saw many bison. But nothing like this. Wow!
Perfect scenario! The snow on the trees, the mountain in the distance, the majestic creatures, wow!! I could see the huge ones way in the back coming towards you… so scary!! Thanks for sharing; from your neighbor in Kentucky!
Thanks for sharing - this is incredible and both of your reactions are awesome!!! 🤗. Isn’t nature incredible when you experience it as it should be, on it’s terms? So happy you had this experience!
as a local, my favorite thing in the park is when you get to see the buffalo chase dumb tourist around, catch them, throw them into the air, then stomp on them. other than that i just look at them and think how tasty they are in my freezer. the buffalo that is, i haven't tried tourist yet....
I was in a Bison jam in Custer State Park on a motorcycle but the herd was more spread out but still close enough. I maneuvered around and through them for 50 yards avoiding the mothers and calves. Buddy stayed behind with engine off with Bison strolling by him. I decided not lol. But nothing like this.
Ferdinand Hayden wrote in his journal, in 1871, we must protect this area and prolong the life of the buffalo, and the natural beauty of mammoth hot Springs, at the time he made that entry in his journal only 300 buffalo were left, less than 6 months later, the U.S. Congress presented a bill and Yellowstone was made a national park, march 1st 1872 President Theodore Rosevelt opened the north gate, suggested by suggested by Captains Oscar j Brown and Wilbur Wilder from camp Sheridan, sent to the park to protect the park from poachers and inevitably built FORT YELLOWSTONE, Lots more to this, Davi b Ausie
This family did exactly what you need to do when an oncoming herd of buffalo come at you when you’re in your vehicle. Don’t move, don’t honk you horn, just stay in you vehicle, stay calm and don’t make any sudden movements. If one of the bulls feel fear they can dismantle a car in minutes with you inside temporarily! Just remember you’re playing in their house so remain calm and enjoy the moment as this family did. I wish I would have been there with them to enjoy this adventure!! Great job folks, great job!
@@broylesoutdoors213 - you’re welcome, and it’s nice to see a posting that doesn’t have an underlying narrative! Keep them coming and I’ll be watching!
Just one thought: hundred years ago there were thousands of this gorgeous animals running in the Yellowstone areas of alpine meadows and grass prairie.. Just a though!
Thanks for sharing... Amazing when they move in group. And they didn't do anything... No harm... Peace and love everyone. Let's behave like they do... Chill everyone!
@0:17...There's more than "a ton of 'em". The average large bison weighs 2000 lbs. I wonder how the bison would have reacted if the tourists blew their horn.
That big one was definitely the Elder of the Heard...So clear to see why the Natives called them the Buffalo People...They gave all Life the same respect, and treated ALL Life sacred, animals, insects, plants, birds, and fish.
This a good thing the buffalo are definitely original.Ancient history still exist today.Don't be to worried about what we lost but that we rebuild what still exist including:The American Indians.I say all populations should grow not be discouraged.I mean it's cool to realize the past, present ,and future is still with us.Better than what other countries in history have done.Just encourage the growth!
More like a Buffalo stroll. LOL! We stayed in West Yellowstone for a week in Sept while touring the park. Loved every minute of it. Bison are magnificent animals. Such power in their eyes. I loved the Grizzly Wildlife center too. Want to go back
About 5 minutes of a Buffalo herd…….before the white man came the herds would take DAYS to pass!! So many were destroyed for their hides, so grateful for the few people who saved a herd or 2! What majestic creatures!
That wasn't a stampede. Just a walk by. If it had been a stampede you'd have been in big trouble. Defination: a sudden panicked rush of a number of horses, cattle, or other animals: "the herd was fleeing back to the high land in a wild stampede"
Me and my friends did a camping trip up there on motorcycles back in 2012. After seeing videos of bison hitting cars we turned our bikes off and didnt move. Lol
I live & work there. This is normal from October - February. Too much snow everywhere else. They are seeking Warm Ground & Melted grass/hay . My guess this was shot around the FireHole ( closed for the season ) . We call them puppies here.
Thanks for watching and the comment. I can only imagine what you are able to do and see. You are blessed my friend. This was on the way out past the grand prismatic spring.
" they need to get over".. haha, what an endearing statement..she's a doll and we should all be so lucky to have a gal like that...however, that herd of beasts were taking the path of least resistance...so you stop your car and wait..it's a beautiful thing and as long as you don't do anything stupid...you'll be fine...I love bison..beautiful beasts with a very dark history.
I've been in that situation sitting on a motorcycle in Custer state park in south Dakota now that's scary I was shaking the whole time walking 3 feet away from you both sides the bike
This isn't a stampede. It's bison walking. You want a real experience? Try going through a herd like that on a snowmobile when the roads are frozen over, but still level enough to walk on. Now, that's an experience. Apparently, the park changed its rules some years back where you're prevented from having an experience like I did. It's too bad. But, I was just as scared as the people in that car who shot this nice video. I just didn't have the interior of a car to protect me. This meant I could hear the mama bison growling at me as they went past with their young.
`this is not a stampede. This is the normal things the buffalo do in Yellowstone. We experiencing this in 2011. It was beautiful and quite peaceful. Please do not call it a stampede. You wouldn’t be alive if they decided to stampede.
Thanks for watching and the comment. I appreciate your kind feedback. Please subscribe to my channel and you feel less triggered when you see my other camera view is a called a “jam”.
