I don't have nearly as much free time to watch them as I would like, but always enjoy them when I do. Hope your viewers all rally around and fill your coffers. me too Mark - on youtube no tits no taps I cannot pretend that selling the boat is not a significant set back but on the bright side I have enough material for around 12 films covering the journey down the West coast of Scotland with films covering the West Coast of Shetland including Scalloway, the rough nightimne crossing of the Pentland Firth,down to Loch Eribol, around Cape Wrath which was a pussycat that day, down the North Minch to the Summer Isles, to the amazing Handa,Loch Drambuie, Salen, Tobermory, the sound of Mull, CorryVrekan, Craobh, through the Crinan canal and the Clyde to Glasgow - and a few more places along the way.

I'm going to "downsize" from my steel schooner (Colvin Gazelle) and go back to my little Centaur. I'm getting close to 70, and it's a LOT easier to single-hand. I just wish she had a gaff-rig.

Thanks for using the word Classy. I have been a hack for a long time. I admire the skills of the tit sailors and their willingness to churn out a film a week. This should be a golden age of sail narratives. We have access to brilliant cameras and the ability to make the films available across the planet. As a film maker it sometimes makes me a bit sad that with all this wonderful technology all they can think of doing is waving their cute little arses and perfect breasts at the camera with beaches, dolphins or bars somewhere in the background. Either I can persuade blokes such as yourself to chip in a dollar or two for the entertainment I provide or all you will see on youtube sailing films will be wall to wall yellow bikinis.. What the future holds for nicely made, witty informative films extolling the merits of intelligent sailing is in your hands If I fail to get people to support the films then I will just schlep up and down my beloved east coast rivers drinking coffee and watching the birds. If I can persuade a few more long pocketed youtubers to chip in then I can go to the western fringes of this remarkable island and make some interesting films

that is an amazing offer - although I am tough on my boats. I have clonked lots of rocks in scotland trying to get close enough to the edge to film. I don't think you would want me to use your boat. Filming is not really like cruising. I get up at three to film the sunrise in the right place. I sail as the sun is going down and until it gets dark. If I am going past a headland I might do the pass three times to gert the shot right. I hit the bottom all the time. The films end up looking like a cruise that has been filmed - there is a bit more artifice in it than meets the eye

As things stand filming on KTL has stopped until I can figure out a way of getting some of the 6,000 long pocketed youtubers that all they will be offered if KTL is allowed to die is girls in bikinis sailing in hot places.I have enough material on the hard drive to make 12 more proper films - after that the cupboard is bare.So far the reminder in the last films has worked jolly well - nearly all from americans rather than the Brits whose pockets are even longer. Any suggestions about how to get more youtubers to chip in gratefully accepted, I get no revenue from adverts - all that goes to google who have done very well out of KTL so far. if I go then all you will have will be either girls without many clothes on or young men shouting in the general direction of a go pro.

if you mean putting the films behind a pay wall - everything I have done over the past ten years belongs to google - everything I expect to make over the next ten years will also belong to google. My films are what they call mash ups - the music belongs to sony or time warner so google share their ad revenue with those tow tiny patrons of the arts. Having paying guests on board would be horribly illegal - none of my boats come within a sniff of being coded. They are not inspected, do not have the safety gear required by law. This last boat does not even have a radio on board. When I was making DVDs then I was earning 10 cents per minute watched. In the old days before it all became free that was what we paid. If I am to do winter sailing in Scotland I need a motorsailer with shelter and heating. That is a big jump. I have to try to find a way to get the 6,000 youtubers who watch all my films to the end to help me. Well, as supporters of KTL and for me personally and to put it bluntly; what would be a suitable tap on the contribution button? A can of Carlsberg Special is £2.75 so using that as a yard stick then, how many cans would a supporter need to sacrifice per year, realistically, in order to maintain something that he or she thought was worth the sacrifice. The viewers by their very nature are like minded and in my opinion care about the project, so based on the numbers, how many clicks? Once we know that we can all come to a decision as to how many clicks we 'should' make and even to make extra clicks. Not sure if that was as clear as mud but have only just finished my VAT and Liverpool are playing rubbish at the moment so me mind's a bit fuzzy.
to go to these waters in the winter time and make good films I need a well found boat. I need to earn £2K per film. There are around 6,000 people who watch all the films from beginning to end and who watch most of the films. How much they need to tap in depends how many do the decent thing. if they all chipped in that that would be 33 pence each. My daughter says that I have to get people off the idea that theya re some-how paying for the acheivement of an ugly old bloke sailing an ugly old boat around safe coastline. People have to think about what the entertainment of watching the films is to them. How much do people spend per hour on Netflix? I do not know. In the old dasy of DVD people used to pay 10 cents a minute watched. Now the films are earning 0.004 pence per minute watched. Google earns far more than that of course from the 3 million hits on my films. I am not even sure it is possible to get youtubers to chip in in any significant numbers.
So if we were to say a £1 hit per month is that ok or a bit mean, if we can do that using online banking, that makes it easier for us and more for you. So a real figure, to me anyway, is a way to proceed and is important. Otherwise nobody knows what is expected.

My digitally sharp daughter says that I have to try to get my fellow sailors who like the films to think differently.It is not about the cost of the sailing it is about the entertainment value of the films to you. When you go to a rolling stones concert you do not ask how much the guitars cost or how much mick payed for the bus to get to the venue. You decide that you will enjoy it. If KTL dies the click bait tit sailors will always be springing up at the rate of five a month/ An intelligent,witty,entertaining knowledgeable bloke who knows how to make good films, write a decent script, read it in clear english does not pop up all that often. If the films are only worth £1 to you then that is great. But if I quit youtubers will have to wait a bloody long time for another as good as me to come along. Click bait Tit sailers are two a penny. Each one takes me about three weeeks to edit. So I will just do them one at a time. I would love to re-boot the series but I need a warmer boat. I am 61 now. To continue filming in the winter up there I need inside steering - a fisher 25. If the next 12 films can earn enough for me to go back properly equipped I will do it. If they can't then I will just sail up and down the Deben in Suffolk observing the birds. I just plain ran out of money. Never mind - plenty of tit sailers in big boats in warm places for you blokes to follow. I am still fit enough to carry on but finding a way of making the films pay for themselves has eluded me since we stopped buying dvds. When I made DVDs people would pay $25 for four hours - or ten cents per minute watched. Now I earn 0.004 cents per minute watched. I am open to suggestions as to how to move things on.
From one Dylan to another, have you tried looking at Patreon? It's how all of the "youf" earn money on RU-vid now that the model is starting to crumble. Or maybe include "gone sexual, YOLO, epic prank/social experiment" in all of your video titles to drum up some views?
you tube tells me that most of the people whop watch my films are blokes aged 50 to 70 - I am not sure they are patreon people - for starters patreon is a made up name, us old blokes are not that keen on standing orders and I can only make 8 films a year. I hope to find a way of re-booting the series, What I have to do is to get some of the 98.5 per cent of people who watch most of the films most of the way to the end on youtube to chip in. That is a big ask unless you have nice pair of busters and are sailing in a nice place
Dylan, Have you thought of re-editing them into a 23 or 54 minute format and offering it up to "The Travel Channel" or one of the other channels on TV in the same genre? Or posting them on a streaming service at .99cents per view, or the full series for $??.?? You could generate a fair income off of something like that with the right bit of advertising.
I think the days of paying for content one bit at a time have gone the way of the eight track and DVD. These films all belonmg to google - they have invented a new name for them - Mash ups. the good thing about mash ups is that they belog to google. Everything I have done over the past ten years belongs to google - everything I do in the forseeable future will also belong to google. Needless to say they pay me not a penny - they do share some of the advertising revenue with sony and time warner. Good for google - buy shares now.

Yes! I watch those too, but they are so boring. Your clips are NOT some old bloke rambling on and on. As you said in one of your earlier films, you point your boat up every trickle of water Great Britain has to navigate ( I may have paraphrased that a bit.). One thing is very clear, you love your country. You show it in a very "full of wonder" way. Like a child on Christmas morning, discovering what every new adventure has to reveal. By the way, you inspired me to get back on the water here at home. I scraped my money together and bought a kayak. You may even see a film or two about my trips because not much is documented about the many lakes and rivers in Missouri (U.S.A.). I hope we never stop seeing new footage from you. I have run out of money - more people than ever are watching the films but since the demise of DVDs I have been getting by on paypal contributions from blokes who love the films. The budget hit the buffers and filming has stopped until I can find a way of getting more of the 12,000 long pocketed youtubers who watch the films to chip in otherwise all they will have to watch on their big tellies are girls in yellow bikinis sailing a nice boats somewhere nice having a nice time but not telling you anything apart from what a marvelous beach bar there is wherever they are. I am open to suggestions about how I can keep the series going. Google pays me nuffink for the adverts it places inside and beside the films - so they have done well out of the three million KTL hits. It is sad.... Up until now I have not put pleas for support inside the films - the last one did and the Americans have responded really well. My fellow Brits are harder to persuade - Bexit shock perhaps.

Filming has stopped but the good news is that I have enough material for 12 more films covering Scalloway, Pentland Firth, Loch Eribol, the minch, summer islas, handa, loch drambuie, tobermory, the sound of mull, corryvrekken, crinan canal and down to the Clyde. In order to re-boot the series I need those films to earn £2,000 each. The money from the Centaur will bring the budget back to scratch and allow me to buy an outboard for katie l to replace the one that was nicked. I have decided to edit the films one at a time and not to start the next until the first has earned its keep. If it never makes the £2,000 then I will schlep up and down the Deben wathcing the birds leaving those films on the hard drive. The youtube versions of the films will have a short nagvert in the middle like the one I put in the last film. Quite a few youtubers said that it had never occurred to them that I was a real person putting real diesel into real car. If I go back to scotland it has to be in a boat with inside steering, an anchor winch and a heater. I really want to film the geese on Islay and Jura. Lily M has a fantastic engine - I will miss her

Fisher 25 with a heater - my cameras, my bedding, my body rotted last summer in the 120 inches of rain in scotland. No more windy moorings either.
