German martingales are made to be used with a snaffle ONLY. Using one of these with a shanked bit is not only improper, it's a great way to ruin your horse's mouth.
You shouldn't use these period. They ruin the horses mouth expecially when you have a shank bit which are the worst bit to use on a horses mouth. these are cheats to get the horses head where you want it.
