Siren starts at 2:32 for those who wish to skip the ambiance
Basic Information:
Siren: Sentry 16V1T-B (Installed in 2015 by C&K Warning Sirens)
Town: Westfield Center, OH (Medina County)
System: Westfield Center Siren System (Not apart of Medina County's System)
Location: Hulbert Rd and Seville Rd
Tested: First Saturday of Every Month at 12:00 Noon (Apr-Oct)
Uses: Tornado Siren
Cycle: Normally a Full Attack, but did Alert too
Other Notes:
So of the 4 years I've been recording sirens, I've yet to hear a 16V1T-B. Being one of Sentry's more popular sirens, I figured I should hear one. This is one of the handful of 16Vs in the State of Ohio is only 20 minutes down I-71. Medina County tested at 12:01, which isn't common as they usually go right at noon. You can hear Seville's SRNB at the old FD on Spring St (which replaced an M-10). When it was 12:03 I knew they forgot, so I decided to call. I was very nervous nobody would answer, as 99% no one is there. I had called numerous times before I arrived to no avail. Fortunately the fire chief picked up the phone, and said he'd set them off in a moment. About 10 seconds later it winds up in what we though would be the typical 3 minute attack. Instead we were surprised to get a 2 minute Alert! As I was walking back to my camera trying to figure out why it did Alert and not Attack, it winds back up and does a full 3 minute attack! I wasn't expecting it, but was glad I was still recording. Overall it was a pretty solid test. It wasn't as loud as I was expecting, but sure did pack a punch. I'm assuming this was a one time thing and just a malfunction but if not, I'll be back for sure! Enjoy!
Westfield has a system of 4 16V1T-Bs (which replaced an SRNB behind the old FD) and 2 Modulator 3012s at the country club. Those supposedly are lighting sirens for the golf course. They claim they go First Wednesday, but they never went off.

I'm still confused as to how 16vs are labled to be louder than 20vs
@sirensofneohio3979
@sirensofneohio3979 4 года назад
Jordan Young That would be due to the fact that 16Vs are lower pitched that the 20Vs, thus being a little bit louder.

I'm not too sure how Sentry calculates their ranges, but technically the SPL they list is peak output in alert on a rectifier. The pitch on these varies like it would on 508's. 508's sound more like a P-15 on DC, but they run way higher pitched on AC. 20V's usually run at around 470 Hz, but since they are using induction motors they are limited to how fast they can spin. They wont top 475 Hz in most cases. When a 16V speeds off and peaks out at a higher pitch they will inevitably kick out more sound. The one time I recorded one that peaked at roughly 480ish Hz it was ear piercing to the point where it was almost annoying. It was very close to a T-128, and they are no slouch The other's never compared to it, and they sounded more like this one. The same thing goes with the 7V8 and 7V8-B. I've never heard the AC one, but I heard they are comparable to a T-121. I've head the DC version and it absolutely blows the Tempest away.

@@DJ2226 ok I see what you mean and I looked at sentrys website and indeed the b models are louder by quite the margin. So then I'd assume then if they made a 20v1t-b that would potentially be equally as loud as 16vs

The 16 uses a high torque DC motor that provides more overall power vs a comparable AC siren... The 7V8-Bs direct AC replacement is the 10V and the 16s direct replacement is the 20V... The 16V is likely to become extremely rare as the 14V has generally superceded it in the ACDC line up...
