Westinghouse 3200 PSI 2.5 GPP Residential Pressure Washer Review Pros and Cons
Purchased from Home Depot for $270 shipped to my door. Also available at Lowes and Sams Club.
Pros:
- Works (at least for the first 4 times I've used it).
- Strong (use as short of a garden hose run as possible and ensure you don't have supply water flow issues)
Cons:
- Both the water inlet (LP) and water outlet (HP) fittings are gold anodized aluminum which is inferior to solid brass (will corrode faster)
- Orientation of LP water inlet connection is not well thought out. Puts unnecessary strain on the inlet fitting/flange and the wheel rubs the water hose.
- HP hose can flex and make contact with the hot muffler. The hose actuallys states keep away from high heat.
- Soap reservoir fill is back under the recoil start thus making filling a challenge. Either you spill some of your soap or you have to use a funnel.
- Unit vibrates heavily under pump operation, so much so it can move several feet on concrete. First time pressuring washing my car I found it had vibrated a few feet and came into contact with my car's bumper. If I had not caught it soon enough the vibration would have damaged the paint/surface of my bumper.
- Unit's front black rubber foot is "marking" as in it leaves a black mark/streak on the surface it rests upon. I'm starting to use the unit more on soft ground to eliminate this and the vibration movement issue.

Have now used this to clean house siding and it performed well ru-vid.comUgkx43QMbQqu67IZadu9ou8Sg1BdrunMRNqX I also bought some wand extensions which enabled higher washing without needing a ladder. I recommend both. This unit arrived quickly, was easy to assemble (only had to attach the handle), and arrived in perfect condition. The only very slight downgrade from a perfect score is the design has a low handle and requires pulling from the side. My old washer was an upright model, while this one is more horizontal. Other than that, it's perfect for my needs. It has a great deal of pressure and more easily cleaned the house siding, porch rails and concrete than did my older model. The engine is a bit louder, as well, but the total time to clean was reduced by the more powerful spray. Did I mention it starts on the first or second pull every time?!! I am definitely happy with this model.

I'm equally as intimidated as I am captivated. I bought a rubber insulated metal clamp for the pressure hose (to keep it from getting melted) and a 45° connector to keep the hose from rubbing the wheel and now I'm thinking that it isn't enough pimping of the pressure washer.

We just bought one of these 2 months ago and used it 4 times, the last of which we added soap. Soap did not flow through hose to connection barb. We removed brass barb to see if it was clogged. It wasn't. Replaced it and now the water flows backwards through barb, down hose and out the soap tank at pressure. We have no idea how to get it to operate as it did, soap or not. We tried to contact Westinghouse and have had NO reply to either phone calls or email in over a week. Did we do something to it by removing the "Detergent Hose Connection Barb"? It's just an open valve, no check valve inside. So, why did it respond this way? Did removing it affect the pump somehow? Was the soap not flowing to pump because of insufficient pressure, as you show in your vid, where you added the clamp? I am afraid Westinghouse is not going to help us. Is there any way to fix this? Thank you!

I just learned that it is not recommended to use teflon tape or any inhibitor of a GHT washer. The reason GHT fitting leak is due to the washer not seating correctly due to teflon tape or other inhibitors preventing the seal. I took all the teflon tape off my ght fittings, out new rubber gaskets in the female ends and no more leaks

The garden hose was meant to go over the top near handle and into the inlet. Not sure if it’s a great idea but that’s technically the way it should connect like a loop over from left side over hub and don’t into connecting point. For the money you really can’t get a better machine for sure

Just a couple things that I would address/comment on. 1.) I was wondering about adding rubber pneumatic tires to make it more slip resistant on the concrete. 2.) It would be outstanding Roy id you gave part numbers for the add-ons (specifically the 3-way shutoff valve for the soap water flush).
@motleypixel
@motleypixel Год назад
Thanks for stoppi9ng by Jed. What I recall doing is snipping about an inch off clear tubing that was already used, then going to one the the common Home stores and buying more and the valves. You could probably even determine the size and then buy valves with barbed fittings and small hose clamps on-line too. As for pneumatic tires, doubt that would keep the unit from creeping from vibration. Maybe some elaborate/expensive motor/pump floating mount to the chassis would help? :)

Yes, if you leave it exposed and not covered with silicon RTV like I did. That being said, an owner could probably leave it bare and the rust would make the union/platform give way years and years after the actual pressure washer died.

@motleypixel
@motleypixel 2 года назад
Did you get get it started again? When you were trying again did the pull cord pull output easily? I always relieve pump pressure by squeezing the wand trigger before every pull. All I can think of are the regular things, good clean gas, kill switche not in off, choke switch in choke only for a cold engine and first few pulls, spark plug coil boot seated. If it's not a turning over then it could be a faulty kill switch, bad ignition coil or wire. Check for spark if you know how. Hope you get it fixed.

I just both the same pressure washer from HD. I am wondering if I have a lemon or not but I am having issues starting the unit. After I run water through the high pressure hose I have al lot or resistance trying to pull the cord to start. I have to hold the trigger to let water flow freely through to release the resistance to start the unit. Is anyone having the same problem?
@motleypixel
@motleypixel 23 дня назад
This is normal. What's not normal is the unit not starting. Ensure the start/stop switch is in Start/Run, ensure the spark plug wire/boot is firmly pushed in/seated onto the spark plug, ensure you have a good amount of good fuel (recommend ethanol free), ensure the gas knob is turned to the on position, ensure the choke is in the choke position. You have to pull the cord firmly and quickly and if it starts to run you have to quickly turn the choke off. If you are too slow doing this and the unit dies then you have to relive the pressure in the hose, keep the choke off this time, and pull the cord again. You can't pull the cord if the action of manually starting or engine starting and then dying occurs because it turns the positive displacement pump which builds up pressure in the hose. Good luck.

I was thinking of getting a gas pressure washer when I have only used electric. I saw this one with 3400psi and 2.6gpm but I’ve also seen that Westinghouse has a lot of flaws, whereas I could get something that has crx engine or Honda engine that has been recommended by others, I just do not have a clue because the Westinghouse one costs 300 compared to the Honda one for 418
@motleypixel
@motleypixel 2 года назад
To me it's more about general consumer pump vs commercial pump. For example, my previous pressure washer was a gas 2200psi Husky from Home Depot with a Briggs and Stratton engine. With faithful engine oil changes every year the engine outlasted two pumps. When the second pump finally died and I tried to find a new one it seems they are not made for that particular model any more so I went with yet another consumer grade gas engine/pump. I have full faith this pump will fail before any part of the gasoline 4 stroke engine. When you get into commercial pump/pressure washers the cost goes up 3-5X.

FWIW, I use only ethanol-free gas and I also run the carb dry by shutting off the gas lever and running the washer until it dies. @@newton296 it doesn't create resistance but does reduce the flow rate (for example units of gpm). This particular model says to drain the crank case oil after the first several hours of use and add new and then change less frequently. I have the same exact one. How do you lower the psi, if I'm washing a car? 3200 is too strong and will damage the paint
@motleypixel
@motleypixel 2 года назад
There's an adjustment under the large black plastic cover but I wouldn't adjust it. You use the 3200psi washer as it's designed, use a wider spread nozzle and don't put the tip of the nozzle close to your work that's being cleaned. Buy an1800psi electric and one day you'll wish you had that 3200psi for blasting off old paint from a trailer etc.

The soap tip that comes with the pressure washer is designed to reduce the overall pressure and increase the flow of water for washing a car and lighter jobs. You can use the soap tip without soap for rinsing at lower pressure.

Just to confirm, "water hose" = the supply garden hose? I have a spigot pressure gage, now I will fabricate a tee and tap in the pressure guage. My supply head/pressure is normally 55psi, I will check. I've used mine with a short 25' hose w/o issue now about the 12th time. Thanks for the reply.
@Jabruzar
@Jabruzar 2 года назад
@@motleypixel Yeah, it’s the supply line (garden hose). The first two hoses that burst; I just figured the hoses were worn out. The last two hoses were new, rubber reinforced commercial grade hoses. 1st one burst the first time I used it and the second lasted maybe 5 uses before meeting the same fate. I actually reached out to the manufacturer and was basically advised that they felt my water pressure coming from the spigot was too high and that I needed to test the source pressure. Water pressure in my area is notoriously hot. It’s a known fact but I only bust hoses when connected to the pressure washer. I may try a shorter hose and see how that works (shorter is cheaper anyways).

@@blakewolfe3726 Most surface cleaners indicate whether they are for a weaker electric washer or for a gas units. Most units around 12-15" work fine with 2500- 4000 psi. @@1052usmc No bull-shitting here, it's common sense operating knowledge. Any pump engineer would tell you for a positive displacement hydraulic pump the lower flow head you supply the harder it is for the pump to do what it's designed to do. It is in line with a common warning in most pressure washer user manuals and in this user manual, running the pump w/o supply water will damage the seals and cause premature failure. So "Comon" man, don't bullshit a former USN Nuke, these are basic fluid flow dynamic principals. I wager the bullshit is more on your end with either using a 50ft 5/8" dia hose or shorter (probably provides roughly 20gpm) or you just don't use the damn thing that much.
