We have used the ru-vid.comUgkxOTeIs0vv4_9B5hsmnLsk9r930uDQLu_Y for probably 30 hours with our camper and it’s been great! The noise level is really only noticeable when running the AC and other appliances like the microwave, hair dryer, or coffee pot. It’s not huge like other ones and it has wheels so even at 90lbs, I can move it!

Another excellent video, Mike and Lynn! Nice work, and thank you again for all of your support of our EasyStart product and your review of the Westinghouse iGen2500. I've read through almost all of the comments so far, and there are lot of similar questions. Rather than attempt to answer them all individually, I thought I would instead elaborate on our own and our extensive customer-provided experiences running two A/C units on generators, with or without EasyStarts, and what the limitations actually are. First of all, ignoring the starting amps for a moment, your 13.5kBTU Dometic Penguin II A/C will draw about 13A steady-state running amps on a 90°F day like you were enduring in your video. Your 15kBTU Dometic Penguin II will draw about 14.5A on a similar day. Together, they are drawing a total of about 3300W of steady-State power (120V x 27.5A = 3300VA = ~3000W). Now, according to the manual for your Predator 3500, it is capable of supporting 3500 *starting* amps, but only 3000W of *running* amps. Not all generators are created equal, and exactly where the generator will declare it overload fault (and light its associated fault LED) depends on how it was designed. According to the Predator's manual, on page 14, it explicitely states that overload will occur if you exceed the *running* amps specification. So, this means that your two A/Cs, even if you were able to get them started with an EasyStart in each of them, there is _no way_ that your Predator could *sustain* their combined operation thereafter, and it would quickly overload and shut down its AC output. Hopefully it now makes sense as to why it would not work, and how it actually has nothing to do with EasyStart. Typically, our customers that have Airstreams with two A/Cs like yours, with EasyStart installed into each of them, can start and run BOTH on a 30A utility cord (3600W minimum steady-state power available), or on two 2000W generators running in parallel (4000W). Ironically, most Airstreams fitted with two A/C units have 50A hookup connectors and capacity. But as you well know, 50A hook-ups at campgrounds are harder to come by, are usually more expensive to rent, and sometimes don't exist at all! As a result, many of our customers who only boondock 10-20% of the time tell us that being able to start and run both A/Cs on a 30A cord actually is more important to them than the fact that they can run one A/C on a single 2000W generator, or both A/Cs on two 2000W generators in parallel. I hope everyone finds this information helpful.

Remember we’re looking at amps...... The Harbor Freight 3500 - 25 amp generator...... 15,000 BTU AC = 14 amps. // inverter = 6 amps. // water heater = 3 amp... it makes 23 Amps,,,,, 2 amps to spare........Excellent generator for the money....This summer will be 4 years pushing 2000 hours. .. It would be nice to see them make a bigger one or diesel version ..... running that NGK-BPR7ES.... Royal purple 10-30 synthetic / HPS with SYNERLEC

Great video Mike! I have the Honda EU3000is to run an 11,500 btu a/c we also run our vitamix, TV, lights and other items simultaneously without an issue. My wife wanted me to get the 2000 but I didn’t want to be under powered. I do have wheels on it and a folding aluminum ramp so the 134 pound Honda is not an issue to put in the truck. We love your videos and look forward to many move!

The one thing you have to consider as well is longevity and how hard the generator has to work. Because the Predator is larger and has a larger engine it doesn't have to work as hard to produce the same power.
@archdukeofsynth
@archdukeofsynth 4 года назад
It doesn't make sense to worry about the possibility of it wearing out earlier, considering the amount of extra fuel (i.e. money) you will need to burn just keeping the larger engine of the Predator running at idle. It's probably going to cost you several Westinghouse's in extra gas over the lifetime of it.
@dwightstewart7181

There really isn't going to enough difference in wear & tear between the two motors to make that much of a difference in longevity.

We have the Generac ix2000 that I bought at Costco 2 summers ago for around $425. It runs the AC in our teardrop trailer. It's not as quiet as the Honda but it's not terribly loud either. We very rarely use it but its nice to have in case we need to cool the trailer down on a miserable hot day.

You could use a Westinghouse parallel cord to parallel the Predator with the Westinghouse. I've used that parallel cord to connect my Westinghouse iGen2500 to my Aldi Workzone 2000. They share the load while connected together with the parallel cord.
@dwightstewart7181
@dwightstewart7181 3 года назад
Westinghouse warns against using their parallel cord to connect any other brand of generator. The electronics inside the two generators (the cord has none) must be compatible, which isn't very likely.
@TheJcrandazzo

The predator will run an A/C unit at idle or slight rev and burn less fuel than the Igen 2500 at full revs trying to keep up with the A/C demand amps.Also you will have to shut off the Igen to run Microwave or perhaps the on board 12 v converter . Better to have a generator run easy than stressing it at full capacity .Predator is heavy but you have a wife to help.

That sounds logical but 2000 predator gets 8 hrs run time on little over a gallon 3500 over 2 gallons 11 hour run time 25 percent load predator running harder still gets better run time, I'd like to see real world test on this.

Great video to find. Love that you picked each one up. I'm debating on one or the other. It's just the weight incise thing because of storage. thing. I want. I'm going to use it for a shed house. I only have a 5000 AC. And a 700 Watt microwave. Trying to get all low-wattage things. LED TVs are like a hundred, and then LED lights are nothing. Ceramic heater 1500 / 7:50. And of course, a two or three big items won't be running at the same time. I'm thinking / hoping smaller generator will do. Love your video. Compared to others. Very practical..

I have the Westinghouse IGen2200. It runs my campers AC, it's a side mounted residential AC unit along with everything else. It will also when hooked up to my house for backup power my gas furnace, lights, refrigerator and tv and internet. It's for sure a winner. I did add a hour meter to it and use only corn free fuel.

Hey, thanks!. I really like the smaller more portable one. Storage Etc. I want a generator to power a shed / house. And getting all low-wattage stuff. 5000 air conditioner, 700 microwave, LED TV hundred Watts. And then only like two LED lights of course. Assume a 2000 or 2300 generator would work. Cheers

I just purchased a used motorhome with an Onan 5500 generator. I have been thru the paces with my Kholer Geny on my previous motorhome. After spending hours tinkering with the Onan and watching vids on how to drain 1 pint of oil and all your problems will be solved and burning up a starter cranking to high heaven... I bought the Predator 3500 and was able to run both my A/C's out of the box... I noted that I was pulling 19 amps of the available 25 amps with the fans set on HIGH.... outside temp 76F.... have yet check the BTU's but if I had to guess they are 13.5. Would like to have seen in the vid the amps (1) unit was drawing and what the fan speed was.... realistically in my MH (1) A/C with an oscillating fan would keep it comfy... for those of you who want to dry age beef in your R/V then I guess you would have to jump through all these hoops to get it down to 48F... but hey that's why we love the RV experience...An don't forget that roll of aluminum roof patch and a (2) tubes of Lap Sealant (self Leveling)

Wandering Wagners both generators you have look like new sine wave inverter generators. You should make what they call a dead man's plug and then try to run both air conditioners paralleled together. But make no mistakes with a dead man's plug. And on your Westinghouse generator I have one like that suit case generator but a 2200 watt 79cc engine it just has two 110 outlet plugs. I'm going to make a dead man's plug and use two male 110 outlet plugs to plug into one generator and the same plug configuration for the other generator.. The more plugs you have plugged in and paralleled the less resistance and possible less heat overtime like running a bigger wire less resistance and less possible heat. But chords and extension cords sized accordingly should never make any heat. The Westinghouse does pretty good to run the air conditioner with the EZ start you have what cc of the engine is the Westinghouse? Engine size does make a difference it means usually more amps. Does the Predator 3500 have an echo idle? Most people don't realize the Honda 2000 makes about 16.6 through 17 amps and has a 98 cc motor that is the power difference. And the Honda 2200 has a 118 cc motor or 128 cc motor. And the Honda 2200 has more amps I'm just not sure how much that's the difference. And both of the Hondas weigh the same. Because all micro airs website there's seven pages of excellent reviews. I read most of them and guys are running pretty big air conditioners. which is the Honda 2000 and I think there was a guy on there if I remember correctly. he ran two air conditioners with one 2200 watt Honda with two micro starts.

That is a nice little generator. I checked out its specs, and it has an engine with less than half the displacement as the Predator 3500. The fuel tank is also just 1 gallon vs. 2.6 on the Predator. I really do like that it's half the weight though.

Throw a parallel kit on them combining the power of both, fire up both A/C's and call it done. But in all honesty, I have a 32' fiver and a single 15,000BTU unit and it keeps my unit nice and comfy. You could cool 1000SF with the combined total of those two rooftops.

For the rv’ers that don’t have the easy start, on either the 13500 or the 15000 air conditioners, only the Predator will start them. We do a lot of boondocking, and I also have a 2300watt Generator along with the Predator. The Predator is for the warmer camping when I need a air conditioner, and can also run the microwave without shutting the air off. In cooler weather I mainly run the 2300 watt for charging the batteries, microwave, tv’s etc. They both have there pros and cons. I mounted the Predator over the propane tanks, batteries, with a generator rack to eliminate awkward lifting. Cut a hole in the shelf of the rack to eliminate removing for maintenance and oil changes. Predators design for oil changes is much better than the smaller generators. Had to switch from the standard hard propane tank covers to a soft cover to remove tanks for refilling without removing generator and rack. Predator basically stays mounted 24/7 on the trailer, locked and covered for traveling.

A major consideration that most don't consider when sizing a generator for camping or RV use is ALTITUDE. The higher you camp the less power your generator will produce. The vast majority of these type generators have carburetors that are not adjustable for mixture. I have a 2200/2000 watt inverter generator that when used under 2,000 feet elevation will power multiple appliances at the same time (not a/c) but at 6800-7000 feet won't even run a convection oven.

Something to consider. The Westinghouse does not have a 30 Amp outlet but can be paralleled to run more than one together. However, at 120 v x 20 amp means it's max is 2400 watts. I hope you don't have a 30 amp plug? Since a 13,500 btu AC can draw up to 2750 watts to start, I'm not surprised that neither generator would run both.

I just ordered a Microair Easy Start and the Westinghouse generator based on your reviews. I plan on doing quite a bit of boon docking out west along with a trip to Alaska next year and wanted a generator for the times when it may be too hot for me and/or the dog and to recharge the batteries if solar won't keep up. I can't lower the tailgate on my truck if I'm still connected to the trailer so I needed a smaller "luggable" generator. I considered a Honda, but for the price of it versus the Westinghouse I figured I'd keep $400 to spend on something else, especially when I'm not sure how much it'll get used.

I also have the Predator 3500 and really like it. I recently bought an A-iPower SUA2000i, 2000W/1600W inverter from Amazon. I have successfully run them both in parallel with the front panel plugs on each and the parallel cables that were supplied with the SUA2000i. I ran two 1500W space heaters, and an 1850 hand held hair dryer with the parallel setup. The heaters actually read 1400W while running, and the hair dryer, 1650W. Why not try this to see if you can run both air conditioners and also increase your power flexibility? If the schematic shows the parallel ports wired in parallel with the 15 amp panel plugs, (The Predator Does) then it is exactly the same as running a "Suicide" cord without the danger. You'll be able to fuel without losing power whenever one unit goes dry, and both units together will still be quieter than one at maximum output. It also should make an interesting video for your viewers. BTW, I really enjoy your videos, keep up the good work!

Could hear the Westinghouse rev up when the air conditioner compressor was running. Quite noticeable and your neighbors will notice as well. Also, the Westinghouse was probably maxxed with the air conditioner and could not run anything else such as the refrigerator or something else. For me, Predator wins as I will not be moving it around much once I place it where I want it when camping and it will run multiple things without revving like there is no tomorrow. And running 2 Westinghouse generators would just be stupid in the long run.

@westmountainadventures3606

Tony & Korrin Petersen A 50 amp plug is still running 120v of power, as I understand it. That means it would be capable of having up to 6000 watts of power pulled. 6000 watts of generator(s) would be the equivalent of a 50 amp plug, more or less. The two AC units in the video pull 27.5 amps and would require a minimum of 3300 watts of input from a generator, 30 amp plug or 50 amp plug after starting. A 30 amp plug at 120v is only capable of supplying 3600 watts. This is why a 30 amp plug will not run most two AC rigs without soft start mods. With the mods, assuming you could get both AC units running on a 30 amp plug, you wouldn’t be able to run much else with the remaining 300 watts or 2,5 amps. Two 2000 watt generators in parallel (4000 watts) should be able to run the two AC units in the video if they both had soft start mods. It would only have about 700 watts or 5 amps left over, but you’d stay cool. At least that’s my understanding. D.

Why do you keep the eco mode on with ac units? I have three different inverter generators & all three inverters tell you to not run in the eco mode on ac units. They know the surge is significant & want the engine at the full rpm at start up.

True, but they are LOUD. in videos it almost impossible to compare noise because they way mics gain. In person there is absolutely no comparison between almost any inverter style gen, vs a traditional frame style 5K or larger. Its the difference between being able to use it at all if anyone is camping within 500 feet from you. Additionally, inverter generators are super clean power. Todays electronics, tvs and such are not very tolerant of mechanical generators power fluctuations.

Even though the champion gen is much heavier but now I don't have the worries of overload. Great Video!

@MicroairNet

Yes, it is capable of being run in parallel with another iGen2500 generator. Parallel kits are available from Westinghouse or from other online sources. Unlike other generators where the parallel connections happen via separate terminals with special connectors, the Westinghouse iGen2500 main outlets simply get tied together (in parallel). You could therefore build a parallel kit yourself if you wanted.

@kevincarlin604
@kevincarlin604 6 лет назад
The answer is maybe. But it depends on weather conditions and altitude. I hope that Matteo Giovanetti from Micro Air can weigh in on this. At the highest temperatures when you need your AC th most, it may be a problem without an EasyStart. At altitude, performance is also a problem without an EasyStart 364.
@kevincarlin604
@kevincarlin604 6 лет назад
The general rule of thumb for all motors is that you lose 3% per 1,000 feet of elevation. So the boost you need to start (remember, more power is needed to START than to RUN an air conditioning unit) can be had via the EasyStart, and at 3,000 feet, some 3,000 watt generators won't start a unit under temperature load. Clearly, conditions like temp and altitude matter.

Rick I have a Westinghouse WH2400i (the model right before this one). It's 2400 watts surge and 2100 running and it will not start my 13,500 BTU Dometic Brisk Air II (it's a 2015 AC Model). However it's a great generator, it's only 43 lbs (completely dry) and the amount extra wattage it has compared to your average 1600/2000 watt model is fantastic. It's pretty quiet too. I think I paid $614 exactly 2 years ago. I believe they are made in China but the headquarters are in the United States. Last year I tried one of those Supco hard start capacitors but no luck...still overloaded the generator.
