I have been a fan of a lot of WSG's work over the yrs, but this reviewer does a great job explaining what he likes and what he dosent on this project, and is entertaining af along the way lol. Subbed!
BACK from my lil hiatus. Was out of the country in Jamaica for most of the break, but also moved and got a new job so much needed vacation for sure, and preciate yall's patience! I'll try to dump a few more reactions this week - I wanna do the Rome Streetz and Armand Hammer joints even tho I'm late. Also, we launching the free channel discord this week for us to chop it up about good music....or we can talk about how bad this one is...whatever y'all wanna do lmaoooo. Big shoutout to my guy Anders - supporter of the channel - for setting up the discord!
Most of y'all are probably too young to know this but back in the late 70s, Taco Bell tried to put all the shit in their tacos into a hamburger form called the Bell Beefer (I'm serious). This album reminds me of that.
The Pray For Paris comparison was hilarious 😂 😂 I understand that WSG wants to have fun because he’s dropped over 20 projects of the classic Griselda aesthetic, but he didn’t execute the trap sound right. The trap beats themselves were mid and WSG had basic flows over them. However, there were a few highs on this album such as Mamas Primetime, Babylon Bis, The Revenge of Flips Leg. WSG had the ability to make an album full of songs of this quality but I guess he just wanted to have fun. Still looking forward to the Conway and Conductor Williams EP on Friday.
Hope Conway makes up for this trash his brother dropped, westside gunn should’ve did a fully produced conductor album instead of working with a bunch of irrelevant people other than RZA and Daringer.
I stumbled on WSG after listening to Travis lost forever. First album I listened to was this one which I was disappointed with save for mamas prime time, kitchen lights and Babylon … thank god I then listened to hitler wears Hermes series and been hooked on griselda. Thanks for your reaction vids
I love how you're still as witty when you're mad as when you enjoy a song. This channel isn't about it, my this review of yours is one of my favourite reactions ever now, since I burst out laughing almost every minute with your jokes accompanied by disappointed facial expressions Looking forward to next reviews and a Discord channel. Your energy always inspires!
Roc Marci is the godfather of many of the artists that have come up in the past ten years, and it's well noted how influential he is to Griselda. And I'll tell you what, whilst he may have came before them, I bet he outlasts them as well. He's gonna keep maturing and developing acclaim well into his later years as he continues to innovate, meanwhile others will not reach the same longevity and relevance.
Gunn is just having fun. But when people call it growth and him saying if you don't like it don't say anything. That's sucka ish. We aren't like some fake Drake fans that support whatever bs you put out. That's how you get Kanye's.
Thanks for the honest review! Anytime I tell someone that the trap songs on this album are garbage I'm told " you just don't understand the vision." No, those songs are horrible.
Lol thats westside gunn coping. A fan of mainstream rap that like travis Scott aint gonna rock with it cus that's extremely outdated trap. There's no way you can listen to Utopia then listen to the trap songs here and think they're in the same stratosphere. Tbh, people who rock with the album gon be folks around his age who like 2000s era trap or hardcore WSG fans who gon rock with anything he puts out lol
C'mon dawg. That's excuse making. The album is just ok at best and you could easily trim 8-9 songs off this joint. Doesn't help that the trap beats sounds dated like they were from 2012 and West sounds horrible on those beats. The traditional Griselda stuff on the album is mostly fire though
@@adankpancakeCool. This is the perfect response. He said if you don't fuck with it, don't listen. Simple. He's not in Buffalo hustling anymore. If you still wanna hear that shit you can fuck right off lol.
THIS MAN COMPARED TH BEATS TO LIMEWIRE! IM CRYING DOG!!!! When you thought you was getting a Kanye song, but you get some crusty dudes song off a mixtape, he just changed the name of the title.
When I need a review for a Griselda project this is my go to channel. Welcome back B. I hope that you enjoyed your vacation. Now I believe that me and you had the same opinion on this album. It’s not it. But I will say this…JID and Rome Streetz killed it with their features.
LMAOOOO yoooo the fact that y'all enjoy this vid so much is hilarious cus this was LITERALLY my least enjoyable album I've reacted to 😭😭 I really appreciate you bro 🙌🏾
As a person who became a Griselada Fan in 2020 and didnt hop on the Pray for Paris Train and instead started with projects like H*tler on Steroids and Fourth Rope, this one really took me by surprise. This thing is basically half boom bap and trap. With that being said, Kitchen Lights was a masterpiece and represents the soundscape of what the album shoulda been and both cover arts of this tape. My other favorite song is Chloe. Wes and Ty’s chemistry were surprisingly dope to me. That guitar riff and synth are so nasty, this song reminds me of Aunt Rosies from H4 and Laura from Steroids. Although Im not crazy about this album, Im not trashing it. Hes at the point where he can have fun and just try different shit, and Im not mad about that. But I do understand the hardcore fans anger about the trap side of things. Glad to see u back B-Side, Big Salute
20:38 Babylon Bis was actually made before the album started he just started adding the trap songs after making a song with Travis Scott and infected the whole album
Good to see you comin back, sorry it was to this album though😂 There are a few tracks I'm walking away with but this man needs to practice his trap delivery! Can't wait for the Armand Hammer reaction though that albums still mostly on repeat for me. And noise kandy 5 too
The main thing that sucks about this project is that it was part of a great series. He should’ve started a new series to go down the trap road. And he needs to get coached by all these great rappers he’s around or just pay attention. Like that one flow was unfathomably bad. And it was the only flow he used. If you disregard the trap songs, there were great tracks that lived up to the Pray for_ name, but mixing them up like that ruined all the cohesion, which is what made pray for Paris stand out in his discography. And then he wasted the Caravaggio. Shoutout to Conway, JID, and Zel for snapping on their trap features. You right bruh. He don’t practice these shots. He shouldn’t really do the trap shit at all. You didn’t see Shaq spotting up and you don’t see Curry tryna post niggas up. He’s already the best in his lane. But if he does want to, he needs to hone the sound by learning good flows and getting good beats or people to executive produce and pick his beats. And then the trap shit could serve as a minor, completely optional side dish to his regular shit. Imma just act like the trap shit wasn’t there and take the handful of fire songs there were as “and then you pray for me”. Which in that case, the shit is hard. About the size of peace flygod.
West was talking in an interview how he made this album for the vibe and not to cater entirely to his core (boom-bap all the way) he wanted to pay homage to the original trap era (Jeezy, Rick Ross) hence why he put a lot of outdated sounding trap production on this. it doesn't really excuse the album as a final product, but at least he is aware of his goal with this one.. He also said he back on that boom bap shit after this one
Glad to have you back!! Im lowkey relieved to see the general sentiment is shared and this album is a mix bag, Im ok with them exploring more soundscapes and doin trap but as u well pointed out it feels outta place as a sequel to Pray for Paris, if you put this out as a different type project maybe our expectations would've been different. Did you have time to listen to new Armand Hammer?? Wont ask for a review if u are busy but curious how u feel about it in case u heard it
Welcome back B.🙋🏿♂️ Hope you had a great vacation. I would probably be much more upset at this album if Mickey Diamond wasnt carrying the underground torch so well right now. Just in the last few weeks, he has dropped Death Threats prod by Sadhugold and Capital Gains prod by Camouflage Monk. Both are contenders for album of the year so i dont mind West's little Freestar Collective sidequest. (S/o my Starfield niggas IYKYK) The Griselda reddit looks like a meteorite hit it right now lol. West's inability to find the pocket on trap beats was so bad i have to believe it was done on purpose. He watered down his flow and wordplay to a level we have never seen to try and capitalize off the recent look he got on Travis Scott's album so i get it. He's put out so many great projects so i can excuse this one since its obviously not for me. I'll keep a few joints off here but the rest will never be touched again.
Dude when I first started listening to this album I was so excited bc the track with JID was fire, but on Kostas I realized that it's not going to end up well lmao. I've exactly the same emotions, this album doesn't deserve to be called the sequel to Pray for Paris. Looking forward to your reaction bc I knew it would be hilarious. 😂 Also, really looking forward to the Armand Hammer's album review, man it's really something!
WHDI part two lmfao!! I feel like this project should've been split up sonically. Sounds good if I edit the queue 😂 you know how I rock bro.12/21 for me. You hear the new Planet Asia joint? Dope work. Happy to hear you're doin good 🫡
100% agree with u bro. I kept only 10 tracks and deleted the trap trash... Benny catching feelings with the fans comments tho... Anddd... it is what it is...
As someone whos listened to griselda since 2017 and picks apart the lyrics the same way you do, I rate the channel bro keep doing your thing. My favorite track on this album by far was kitchen lights. Imagine he releases a side B to this? Like he did with with HWH8, side B slapped harder. That "why do em like that" joint was peak craft on that album. I hope he doesnt end his run on here.
Yo, i take that back, Peri Peri was just as good on side A lmao That Westside intro "Pearls before swine, greatest of all time, bitch smoked her teeth out, still smiling like shes FINE." 🤣 Crazy double entendre.
Me too. I honestly thought he was going to drop richaxxhatian on same day to step on Gunn’s release lmao cus I don’t think they still cool. But yeah I def need him to drop as a pallete cleanser for the culture lmao
i was listening to this in between classes on friday when it came out and i was so disappointed. i didn't even like hwh 10 but compared to this???? part 10 is illmatic compared to this edit: after a relisten i can safely say that i don't think flygod jr from 10 is bad compared to this shit
I was waiting for you to do this. All I can say is my sentiments exactly but apparently we are haters and don't want him to evolve and experiment. I think Gunn knows this album is bad now because he is getting mad defensive. Thank you for this therapy. The messed up part is the good songs Gunn is actually barrin it up but his bars are straight super weak on the trap jawns.
This review perfectly sums up my feelings to a tee, but in a way I could never articulate. There's a really good EP tucked in here, but it's ruined by a dumpster fire of bad trap. This was the first WSG Daupe record drop that I missed in a long while and I have zero regrets about missing it. This album was the biggest let down I've had in a VERY long time. Just found your channel and it's a breath of fresh air. I hope to see you blow up while continuing to review all the albums that us in the underground thrive off of.
Man I'm glad I'm not the only one bugging on this. Folks around me tried to convince this shit was good. It's like westside tried to expand his sound but he didn't change anything about how he raps. This is like cutting room floor stuff tacked on to tacky beats with no understanding of the appeal of a good trap song. Drake's FATD might really be better than this shit.
As a native of Atlanta, 31yrs old, and Westside being my favorite rapper of the last decade…. The trap songs are horrendous, but I like Freddy Js & the Denzel Curry song 😂. I can say I genuinely like 10 tracks from the album. 6/10
The faces you were making throughout this video were the faces I was making listening to this. I'm a huge Westside Gunn fan so I was excited to listen to this album but the so disappointed. It was not good at all. I didn't even get through it...not even halfway. I got as far as JD Wrist and was gonna get to the other half at some point. You saved me the trouble. Now I know exactly which tracks to add to my playlist and the rest will never be heard from again
THE BEST REVIEWER IN THE GAME! Ok, so this album is….rough! Features largely held up with end of the bargain (JID is otherworldly right now) I thought Griselda had perfected the 10-15 track 30-40 min album then Gunn’s creativity may have finally gotten the best of him this time.
Lmaooo I been tryna play catch up so idk if I'ma get to it but MIKE is on a crazy run. Beware the monkey is tuff and his joint with Wiki last month was FIRE! I wasn't really a MIKE fan prior to last year but he creeping up up fasho!
“Whoopy” off his album Hitler Wears Hermes 7. It got taken off of streaming for a minute (I guess cus sample issues) and just got put back recently so I been bumping it nonstop lately 🔥
I have no idea who Miguel the Plug is, but I hope bro never produces anything ever again. Some of the most basic beats I’ve ever heard, and Gunns rapping matches how dull the production is. Seriously considering cancelling my Daupe vinyl preorder
I swear wsg got on the Travis Scott album and now he thinks he's waka flocka or something with these trap beats. Flygod 2x, mamas primetime and flips leg are only redeemable songs on here in my opinion. Great video
I made an interesting observation while listening to this album. If you were in high school or are familiar with the mixtape era between 2010-2014: Im talking Datpiff, My Mixtapez, Livemixtapes, etc. this album kind of uses some of those sounds from that time. Think about it, all the real hiphop heads know when you hear "Trapaholics mixtapes" you know that shit gone be fye. So i dont think its that he did trap music wrong, he just used that raw gritty version from an era when trap music was REALLY about trappin. Waka flocka, gucci mane, gunplay, etc. You had to be there to understand. Thats why i fw this album. Some of the production on this album incorprates different moments in hiphop/trap if that makes sense.
My thoughts are that I like pray for Paris more as an album, but this album has better features and more of a variety in sound.I really like this album though.
When he dropped the producers for this I was scared to listen to it. Couldn't get to Kitchen lights on the first listen before I had to turn it off. Respect trying something new but the snippets he used to have on IG sounded so much better
Sometimes I make playlists where I cut the tracks off an album that I don't like. The playlist for this album would have about three tracks... Out of 21... It's not even a question, this is the worst album of Griselda history. Yikes.
what makes me more mad abt this whole album is what ended up not making it on like the Raz Fresco joint that gunn was teasing, nowhere to be seen on the tracklist or final album
