Awesome stuff dude, really looking forward to the next episode! I grew up appreciating the steppes in east Ukraine also rich in all sorts of species. Its really cool to be learning about swamps and in such a different climate zone as well!
Coming from NE Illinois and watching this video is making me appreciate the fuck out of Florida wetlands so thanks for putting this together! I'm curious to learn what some of the invasive plant species of these hydric systems are; and do graminoids play a big role in Florida wetlands?
thank you so much! I learned a lot from this. As a fellow central floridian, I feel super discouraged about the weather and afraid of enjoying the swamp year round. I was super interested to hear that you camp during the hurricanes and I’d love to hear about gear and lightning safety. I personally also really enjoy learning about foraging if you have any books specific to this area that you recommend. thanks again!
Hmm you know I don't know as much as I'd like about foraging. But maybe once I learn enough I'll share it all in a video. As for hurricanes, next video is all about my most insane swamp camp story: surviving hurricane Ian. I'll film/post it this Sunday:)
Really interesting video. You mentioned being a Biologist and I was wondering if you've worked with people who specialize in GIS. And if so, what are some applications for it that have been useful?
Yes, we have a GIS specialist that work with. We primarily use ArcGIS and supported software. So when I'm tracking boundaries and mapping various plant communities I use Survey123 and Avenza Maps. We also use Gaia GPS and good ole' Google Earth too.
@@SwampAppreciator I appreciate the insight. My goal is to work on the environmental/conservation side of things so this kind of information is super useful. Looking forward to the next videos!
