Thanks Tim! Throwing has become so much easier since I started using the slip more. My teacher was always "water, water, water"... which washed away slip just as fast as it would build up, and I'd lose so much clay.
This is *exactly* the video I needed to find. I'm currently in my first ceramics class since I was a little kid (we're talking some decades here), and my first class using the wheel ever. Thank you for a very clear explanation & demonstration, putting this advice into practice is going to make things a lot easier going forward (I've 100% been making the stereotypical noob water management mistakes).
Thank you so much with yours tutorials videos. I just started classes so far 2 of them and I"m not happy with myself. I still cannot make anything yet. I wish your were one of my teacher at that art clay place I'm going. I"m learning more with yours videos that in class. I wish I had a wheel at home now to practice during your tutorials.:-) you're awesome.
Using slip is much better than using water only. Also it is best to change the p.h levels of the slip and add a base to lower the viscosity and make it less sticky and much more slippery.
