This is really great info Jideh, thank you. Especially the phase switch to create a low pass filter, I did not know that. Big up and respect! Keep up the wicked riddims also.

Great tips. Would be interested to reproduce it in Ableton. Will try

in a FX RACK : a FILTER + a UTILITY , switch reverse polary on L & R - Assign CutOff & Reso to 2 Maccros - Put that filter on an AUX RETURN track - as Polarity is reversed at the output of filter , if you want a low pass sounding , use a HIGH PASS , if you want a HighPass sounding , select a lowpass ...

what do you use to switch from normal to reverse phase signal ? ( you are just pressing on a ON/Off button and A switch to select the cable path ) What box is that ? and where can I get that resonance box ??? this is great can't wait to get mine ...

Greets Killah Kay , for the reversed phase thing, i got no switch on this desk , so i soldered a symetrical cable ( ex : you got 3 wire in a symetrical cable ( hot point on tip , cold point on ring , ground on sleeve) , i inverted cold and hot point on one end of this cable ( at this end , cold & hot have been swap before solder it) my routing is : - one AUX send goes directly in one empty channel - on this channel the filter is plugged at the insert point - inverted phase cable is plugged at the direct out of this channel going to another empty channel That way i can use the normal mode and the reversed mode. Concerning the RESO BOX : it's more a resonance attenuator , as it's passive filter with no amp in it we can only remove and not add resonance . ( so the trick is to use the filter with a bit of attenuation , and when during a mix you want more reso you just bypass this attenuator ) ....this resobox is easy to build ( you need to solder a potentiometer (i dont recall well if i added a 10K or 50K pot ( i you buy your filter from SebWestfinga he can give you the precision) , so this pot is solder between the input & output jack of the filter , some guys put this pot behind the filter , but i choose to put it in a little box in front for easy use ( so instead of soldering this pot in the filter box , I added a Jack socket and my attenuator reso box is plug in it ( that way later if i want to find more finetuned resistors , i just have to plug in this pont instead of unmount and mount several time this filter .) In one of my video -i dont remember if it's this one- I show a little draw , so if you make a pause on it and read this comment , you'll get it i think. thanks for passing by this YT channel , Dubwise !

@@shieldrumrecords1228 Are you using 2 Y cables? One standard, and one with reverse phase on one end? Also what is the track name you are playing here?
@shieldrumrecords1228
@shieldrumrecords1228 2 года назад
@@a.stockton4817 and @killah kay ; No Y cable, the routing here is : - send out (or subgroup out) goes directly in a channel - filter at the insert point of this channel - direct Out of this channel goes in another input thru a cable that reverses the polarity of the signal ( this cable is a symetric cable i modied by inverting the hot point (tip) with the cold one (sleeve) at one end of the cable - this type of cable is usefull to experiment with analog gears for perfect polarity reversing because they got zero latency , technic is applyable with digital devices also but we have to know and counsider the latency (most of time 1ms or more) and would require a copy of the drysource we send in the effect and this dry sound copy must be delayed by the exact amount of millisecond induced by the digital effect ... i barelly do it on digital device because it takes some other track on the desk to achieve it. When i want "polarity reversed trick" on digital devices i do it in the DAW the addition of normal & reversed track happens in the DAW which aligne everyone before output from the audio interface - i listen again to the track to tell you which one it is.

Hy there,good job on the review. there are 2 i/o at the back of the box, i suppose it doesnt matter in which hole should go input and where is output,i mean as long as both cables are connected i get a good signal it seems? Also,i cant seem to get a good signal chain for filtering the reverb fx return. Curently i have it set from main channel,through group output to filter,from filter to another channel as fx return,then it goes into spring reverb, but once i send my spring reverb return channel through group to filter,it starts ringing and some kind of noise builds up very fast. Any tips on that? Thanks

@iahorana 5 лет назад
this is a feedback loop ... what do You call main channel output ? is it your master ? maybe no ... You have to choose if You send the filter through fx send into the Reverb , or the reverb to the filter , or You will have this feedback loop (same as microphone larsen) ...
@JIDEHHIGHELEMENTS

generally i dont send the filter return into the verb , from time to time you can do it to get a special ringing effect , but best result is to send the verb return into the filter , a good thing to do is to send the verb return + the signal ( drum for exemple) wich go in this verb , send the 2 in the filterfor more dramatic frequency steps effect big up

Here is an example of my situation. I have 8 channels of audio going to "main mix". Spring reverb and tape delay are sent through aux 1 and 2,both are returned in channels 23/24. Group output 1/2 are used for filter send, return is on channel 22. So all channels i want to filter i just send them to group 1/2 and i get a good signal on channel 22, where i turn the aux knob for sending tfiltered sound to spring reverb. This way i get a "satisfiing dub sound" but i can only filter dry signal, and i want to filter both dry instrument but also wet spring signal. I hope i explain well,so you understand :)

@@JIDEHHIGHELEMENTS yes man that is exactly what i try to do but am still struggling, i tryed to find a good signal path but i was distracted when i played some multitracks,will try againtoday :)

@@JIDEHHIGHELEMENTS ok so i made the following setup and now wet spring signal is also filtered . the main 8 channels,i send via group out to filter and via aux send to spring reverb,and then spring reverb return is also sent to filter through group outs. now i can "choose" between pre and post spring reverb filtering,but it is a lot more combinations of buttons and knobs to keep in mind of while dubbing ,if not carefull its easy to make a feedback loop. thanks for help

why dont you add an lfo to you pot box (optical is easy). you will have to find the right resistance values to play with. i'll give you a schem for that if needed. pour une fois que quelqu'un post une vid interessante.... Je pense qu'un schema pour la config ne serait pas de trop
@shieldrumrecords1228
@shieldrumrecords1228 5 лет назад
greets badRiddim ; yes this mod is so easy ( pot of the mod box is soldered to the + & (-) of the output of the filter) But yes i could give a simple schema). as my mod box is used to atenuate resonance of the filter , i didn't though about it , (pot to the max counterclockwise is the original resonance , then the more i turn clockwise it atenuate the resonance) ... I don't know if i'm that good to build a LFO ... but now you bring the idea a synchable ( tap tempo) LFO with several shape with the possibility to cover all the 10 K of the pot or a portion of it with a depth parameter , this would be great . lfo are more obvious when it's on the cut off , but i'm sure it can gives good result on reso too ... I would prefer to hire you to build this kind of device for me for everything , i'm more into mixing for the momment , You would be ok to build this LFO device ?
