The absolute best line in the game in my opinion is by going to destroy the ANVers gang with Abelard in your party. High quality comedic relief. Not even the obvious comedic relief act 3 companion compares.
An officer with no one to yell at is truly the most piteous of all the Emperor's creatures. I was imagining that mission going very slowly until you missed the first shot; then i imagined it going very badly. Then Argenta showed up like an angel.
I suspect you're traveling to Footfall constantly. Did you know you can buy and sell stuff from any faction you're aware of all from your ship via your high factotum? You'd only ever need to visit Footfall to trigger dialogues or deliver the planet survey quests at this point of the game. There's no need for someone of the resources of the Rogue Trader to be physically present in all business meetings. It makes sense he can delegate. You can even manage your colonies remotely as you have already figured out.
And here you have it. Psyker can be trouble, unsanctioned psyker *will* be trouble. And the end of the video, with Argenta and Cassia barging into Lord Captain's bedroom to find two daemonettes in there is a prime fanfic material :)
Ah yes Idira, given my Rogue Trader is a former Guard commander I did what any true Guardmen would do when confronted with this sort of issue, fallback on procedure. (procedure in this case being a .75 Calibre standard pattern bolt round)
I am reminded (happily) about Samuel L. Jackson's character in Jackie Brown suggesting what to buy when you need to clear 'every' last mothereffer in the room... 🤣
@@Nickunparalleled It reminds me more about another Samuel L. Jackson's role: "I'm tired of those mothereffing chaosites on this mothereffing ship!" (C)Argenta, probably.
Sam Jackaon in Drag would be effing Amazing if we're casting this... Although Samuel Jackson as Abelaard and introducing Rogue Trader everywhere would also be pretty Pure ❤
As much as I hate the idea of losing content by kicking out companions before I can finish their personal quests, in-universe you'd have to be crazy to not do something about a known source of warp incursions on the ship. Act 1 makes that clear.
I think it's more cool to do it after this. Makes you a total snake, and you could use her for as long as you like and just hand her over near the endgame. I admit I found it extremely difficult during my own playtrough to justify not killing her on the spot, but the benefits of an advisor for planetary management as well as her "assassination" ship combat skill is super useful and I'd rather have that than not.
Having played through a bit now I'm glad I just shot her, on the Eisenhorn Dodgy Inquisitor scale Heinrix and his boss started off presenting themselves as young Eisenhorn, but as the games gone on I'm getting some very old Eisenhorn vibes from them.
It doesn't tell you for some reason, but you get a bunch of ancient machinery in your inventory (not cargo) if you capture it. Also there's a tab that I'm pretty sure is in the Journal menu (it's been a couple days since I've played) where you can do one off deals. A lot of them are pretty useless but some can get you some pretty rare colony materials.
Resources - static, not rolled. I'd get ALL Adamantium and Flogistone, and 5+ on other resources. You'll have enough extractors if you get extras via colonies.
@@PerunGamingAUI surmise you don't want spoilers. If you do, I happen to have a spreadsheet with all systems and corresponding resource deposits listed.
The writing for Idira's scene is really good. Is Idira a massive danger to everyone, or is she a broken human being who can't cope any more? The answer seems to be.... 'Yes'.
I'm a little sad because people see what happened with Idira as inevitable, and mechanically in the game it was, however if you are playing it is clear that the previous rogue trader meant something to Idira, like a lot. Not sure exactly what but her death was a MASSIVE blow. Most Psykers probably would have exploded on the spot on seeing them dead on the table and knowing they had failed them. Idira still held on strong, helped with visions, was able to help in combat, etc. However she was hiding her pain, not even very well if you talk to her. There is a world (Not this game) where the new rogue trader took the time to help her. If she worked through the pain, dealt with that trauma, she wouldn't have been a open nerve. The warp hand-targeted her, used her memories and people she loved against her. That fits, chaos sucks like that. I just do not think this is an example of 'Idira is unsanctioned and always going to explode and nothing could stop it'. This was an example of someone suffering extreme emotional trauma and then having no one there to help her. Even non-psykers are known to break under those conditions. Again, as the story plays out, getting rid of her makes perfect sense. I do get that. Even as someone who really liked her and wanted her to do well, that was not a easy event to ignore. I guess I just want people to see the tragedy in the story for what it is, how lots of people's failures led to this outcome, and generally always encourage seeing people for individuals not just a label. This was a complex situation and treating it as a generic unsanctioned psyker was always going to explode does the writing a disservice. edit- Just to be VERY clear. As of this point in the story, Idira has two major warp incidents to her name, in Perun's game she summoned a demon accidentally in battle, and the deaths of no small number of crew are at her feet (Though I do think that is a shared fault situation). Any reasonable society AT BEST would lock her up forever, as she is too dangerous to be free. While I personally forgave her and like that route, it is arguably just the incorrect thing to do. Perun's choice is harsh but probably the best one for everyone involved, including Idira.
As Perun pointed out way back when they first met: Idira is a middle-aged unsanctioned psyker. It's a testament to her power and potential that she lived that long. And, though the Rogue Trader had no way of knowing this and is totally justified killing, exiling, or imprisoning her, if kept alive she does hold to her word: no drugs or alcohol means no further major "incidents". I took a risk -- perhaps a foolish or even immoral one -- keeping her alive in my playthrough, but it did pay off.
@@ShiniesAreCoolIronically giving her that act of mercy makes her incredibly loyal to you. She admits to you that she is losing the fight, but would rather go down swinging and take as many of your enemies with her before she succumbs to possession.
the sad fact is that what happened WAS inevitable. she was long odds to even survive to this age as an unsanctioned. yes it might not happen this way.... per say. but in addition to being an unsanctioned psyker she was also one who actively foretells the future. and all those kind get consumed by Tsench daemons if they don't go out some other way first. you even encounter the beginnings of this process in game. Idara was dammed from the moment that they made the effort to remain unsanctioned. a sanctioned psyker may be more trouble than they are worth. they may explode or be dominated by a daemon or other things. an unsanctioned Psyker WILL have these things happen. and if they survive them it will keep happening. more and more frequently. eventually they become a walking wound in the barrier between realties. sure she lost control due to substances abuse and depression this time... but eventually even if she was at her peek emotionally and totally sober this would happen anyway. she is unsanctioned. she is also not walking a craftworld path... nor is she an aldari. she was certianly exceptional.... but frankly you can't bat 100 forever.
there's a way to get escorts through colony projects. you should be maxing ut relationships with imperial navy. Easier once you've finished the quest at footfall
And you have a torpedo manual control ability, +5 cells after Toro has moved. It's invaluable. Also, torps can hit 1 cell out if you manual explode them. Also-also, I STRONGLY recommend getting warp twist and shield side alignment ASAP.
Yep, I relentlessly spam those abilities. Warp surge is invaluable for killing ships that didn’t quite die, and also misaligning others so they can’t twist out of your grip
@@PerunGamingAUexpedited reload practices? Do they involve forcing open blast doors between ammunition magazines and guns? If so, I can easily imagine a situation where "something is bloody wrong with the ship"
@@PerunGamingAU A frigate with five weapon slots makes it a very strange frigate indeed. One with ambitions well above it's normal station. In any event, punching well above it's weight division unless it's some sort of archeotech vessel. Or a 40K relative of the USS Johnson.
In my own playtrough I found it extremely difficult to justify not killing her on the spot myself. I decided that I'd just hand her over near the endgame because her ship skill when she's on warp duty is super useful to kill off heavily damaged enemies without wasting a full salvo, and because I like having her as an advisor for planetary management because those just remove the negatives of the decisions I have to make completely for free so long as I have the adequate one for the adequate event. Medium spoiler: I found it ESPECIALLY difficult to justify not killing on the spot the other act 2 companion after the start of act 3. Like, if not because you basically have nobody else as a companion at that point of the game; to hell with you. HUGE spoiler: Wow, Argenta is quite fast to shoot heretics on the spot without hesitation, eh? Unless someone's there to stop here, she would have done it without thinking... I can't imagine this is the first time she's done that! It came off too natural on this episode.
adamantine, xenotech and rara stuff like (on the right side of the resources) that will have a smaller "mine" rate, than plasteel, prometheum, provisions. 2-3 for these is pretty ok from what i've seen. i don't remember exactly when (kiava gamma and exprolators prolly), but you will have a good amount of autominers. mechanisms and weapons will be manufactured on planets, not mined. i also started a fkin excel sheet, cause' i've seen no option in game that logs resources... also, maybe you seen this but you can do proximity explosion with the torpedoes, if you move them next to a ship
Personally, I'm wondering how much Idira's... issues were deliberately tolerated by Theodora. Its clear this wasn't even the second or third Serious issue with her. Either she was VERY useful to Theodora, or there were other reasons...
I think that's the implication too. Idira's grief over Theodora seems to have been very significant... and historically, Monarchs, Nobles, and the like, had a reduced number of 'peers' to spend time with... the old cliche 'it's lonely at the top' springs to mind. Thoedora doesn't seem to have been a traditional 'family' sort of lady either... since the main character is not a child/grandchild of Theodora, there's an implication that the late Lord Captain wasn't interested in growing her own heirs...
While it's unfortunately beyond the scope of what is written in the game... whatever crew member was responsible for Idira even being allowed to touch the amsec will be lucky to a flogging after all this. Seriously, who lets alcohol and psykers mix?!
Imagine selling hard drugs and booze willingly to one of the most dangerous members of the ship where them losing control for even a moment will kill thousands. Actual brainlet.
Speaking of being dangerous while intoxicated, have you finished your Servants run yet? Not complaining, but there's another Sister with strong religious opinions about aliens and nonbelievers waiting in a save file somewhere (probably lost forever due to patching).
When this happened in my playthrough, I had Argenta "do her duty" after combat. No doubt missing content because of it, but I'll do a heretical playthrough at some point so w/e.
The casual disregard for human life by Idira is crazy, a total psychopath, but could be explained by the culture she comes from. The Inquisition does the stuff it does in the hope of saving more than they do harm and on average, I think they are actually doing a fine job - especially with what they have to work with - the only exceptions are Inquisitors who mean *too well*. On the other hand, Idira simply can't be sanctioned or not? Since one can't even reach Terra from the expanse, am I wrong?
You can try, but odds are not good for getting through the Maw during the time the game is taking place. Regarding your comments on the Inquisition, I can't say much without spoiling the game. BUT WE HAVE SUCH SIGHTS TO SHOW YOU.
Can't remember the skill name but Cassia gets a skill that lowers warp degradation *and* gives deflection vs warp damage equal to her willpower bonus for 2 AP. It's a pretty damn good skill and can really help tank warp fuckery from both the veil and direct damage
Am I the only one who thinks Jae is kinda useless in this party? She is yet another officer, not a high hitter and so fragile! I think you might want to replace her with another buff such as Abelard so that hostiles can have more things to worry about in melee. Great playthrough so far :)
Wow, I didn't think they would include anything slaanesh. most 40k and wfb video games do nurgle as zombies are a well understood genre, and tzeentch though they often struggle to represent the madness of change. They sometimes avoid khorne as, everyone has generic red demons with melee weapons in their IP, and almost always avoid slaanesh for several reasons. I noticed Idira's first incident resulted in a plaguebearer, prior to that all chaos had been tzeentch. I doubt they will have 3 as they usually do one, two or all four; three just makes people wonder why one was left out.
There's a lot of downright idiocy from party members that I have bitten my tongue and tolerated for the sake of seeing maximum content on my first playthrough. I like your solution better.
It's less like a physic disability and more like willingly leaving your network node open and without a password. Sanctioning prevents this problem, but Idira was never sanctioned.
@@ZeroNumerous it doesn't exactly prevent this problem... just makes it far less likely in exchange for losing some power. think of it kind of like running antivirus and malware blockers on your computer. it takes up some of the computers processing power (and depending on what your using it can be a significant amount) but your not likely to be messed by any random malicious code you encounter. however the high end/new/stuff you let in because sure you know what this is I swear that site isn't dodgy... well. its still gonna get right through. only instead of turning your comp into a brick, monitoring what your doing, or ransoming your information... you get demonic possession, mind manipulation, or in some cases full on daemonic manifestation or even the transmutation of all your mass into unstable fissile materiel. (yes your psyker can turn into a psychic nuke. yes even the sanctioned ones)
STOP! LORE POLICE! STAND AND ANSWER FOR YOUR CRIMES OF NOT KNOWING OBSCURE STUFF NOBODY LEGIT HAS TIME FOR! (including the developers, shocking, i know, there's ONLY 30 years of lore to comb thru. xD) Perun, my dude, you assign the fault to her personality traits, personal choices and seem to think she was at some stage in control of those. Never was, never will be, never could be. All of what you assign to "person" doing is just Warp shit happening around her, no rhyme, no reason and she certainly isn't "responsible". Warp corrupts, her souls is unprotected from it's influences. All of this? It's on Theodora if you want a guilty party outside her being born this way. This is a unsanctioned Psyker, this is what they ARE. She was never useful, never in control and this was always going to happen. She's a viral toxic waste barrel with human face. Was. You sending Idira away to Inquisition means one thing and one thing only; they will execute her. The "human" solution was to shoot her personally and not prolong the inevitable. Inquisition will torture her first just on principle to see if she WAS a heretic by omission or just expired. *shrug* I have no idea why Theodora was lying to Idira there was redemption to be had outside of dying in combat as soon as possible. Guessing Theodora had mean streak wide as Eye of Terror or something but jeepers, that's a awful lot of lives to throw away for what amounts to willful negligence for a practical joke that was always going to end up the same way.
Yeah -- from what I've heard of black ships and the Imperium's unsanctioned psyker policy in general, there really is an argument to be made for the "Of Mice and Men" solution: say nice things, give her hope as she slips into unconsciousness, then vent her once the ship's back in realspace.
You're giving Theodora too much credit. We've already seen that Theodora had at least one Chaos artifact in her possession. At best she was stumbling to the wrong side of a very thin line. At worst...
Hey man, i really enjoy your content (specially the political ones in the other channel), but I got a little lost in this video, no introduction, just dropping content without a bit of context.
sorry. it's a direct extension of E13 which is why it lacks an intro. Might add a short one to extended eps in the future to make the transition clearer
yeah this is a continuation as stated in the title, there is also the video's description. While it didn't bother me you're right that the start of the video was a bit abrupt.
@@PerunGamingAU I disagree. If you're going into Episode 13 as a cold open - you do not get the luxury of Intro and Context because you eschewed it yourself. Intro between acts - yes - but intro in-action? nah.
