Fun fact: After the passing of his beloved little brother Jerome (Curly) Howard, Moe started to reenact some of his old antics. Notably his whooping noises and his grunting.
Based on what I've seen of his history, Moe is kind of a hard edge but loving man. He wasn't overly affectionate with any of his family including his wife and kids but he did clearly care about all of them. Even Larry his lifelong friend. When he passed after so many years Moe fell into a deep depression that eventually took his life. It was almost like he had lost his lifelong brother.
@@Darth234Ravenous Moe died from Lung Cancer. He chain smoked like all The 3 Stooges. Moe was also an eccentric and often Early Metrosexual man. He loved dressing sharp as a kid and a young man. Moe even had to crossdress as a child, and toured with a Nearly All Girl Water Ballet Troupe in Long Island,NY during 1913-1914. Moe was Doted and Devoted to his family. He Treated Jerry like his Baby Brother, because he was. According to Joan Howard Mauer, Moe was a VERY loving father and was VERY devoted to Helen. Helen in fact, died just several months after Moe.
@@jessicathethreestoogesfan2635 If Columbia let Curly rest when he was having his strokes, maybe he could have been with Moe and Larry longer than 1946.
@@georgemaster689 Well not Columbia itself, but Jules White. He was much more worried about the money and less worried about Curly’s health that he downright refused to accept the offer from the other two stooges to let him rest, which was a very bad move and would ultimately lead to Curly’s career-ending stroke. He only appeared in the three stooges short two times and for a short time. One was on “Hold that lion” where Curly played a role of a sleeping passenger with a derby hat and a nose clip. The other, which we don’t have footage on was on “Malice in the palace” where Curly played a role of a hot headed chef.
Moe Howard you are loved and appreciated by thousands around the world you may be gone but not forgotten one of the best stooges ever keep the laughs coming no one close to the 3 stooges your legacy of laughter and slapstick still continues on you guys rock thanks ! Joe
At 6:50 is the stunt where Moe didn't fall correctly and broke several ribs. You can see he didn't pull off the stunt fall and landed very hard on that pile of wood. His professionalism was of such a degree that he took a breath, stood up, and then after that slap to finish out the scene, he passed out.
Even without knowing he broke some ribs, Moe obviously took a hell of a fall in this scene. Even Larry and Curly stop doing their usual pratfall overacting.
Oh My...that looked SO painful. Curly was going to help Moe up, but then let Moe finish the scene. Jeez..I can't imagine the immense pain that he was in. Usually, Moe jumps up from all the pratfalls, but this one...nope. They made me laugh alot when I was growing up. My Dad watched them all the time and got me hooked on them, too. Love The Stooges!!
I remember Moe getting hit on the back of the head with a phone that was thrown at him in one episode. LOL! If any of those things ever happened in real life, they'd be in the ICU unit or dead. But it's the sound effects that REALLY make it funny.
@@railfanningmichael3970 Trouper originates from one who is part of a theatre troupe and thus realizes the show must always go on. Trooper originates from the designation given to soldiers and police officers. Moe was a trouper.
Fast fact is Moe was actually injured more than any others. In the scene where Curly cuts the table he got his ribs broks. Also, in the scene with the water pump Moe was hospitalized. Larry got a fountain pen stuck in his forehead and a breakaway vase cut Shemp up pretty bad.
The part you mentioned where that fountain pen got jabbed through Larry’s forehead, after the cut, Moe in fury chased after Jules White. After that, I think he felt a little bad because there were young people present.
best i can do with answering that with a positive attitude is prove me wrong that is any and all thanks to human behavior if it should be known as dumb, narcissitic, belittling, patronizing, humans brought things upon themselves.
Moe loved his liquor Couldn't leave the whiskey alone . Pint a day Also heavy cigarette smoker too 3 packs of camels daily One hell of an improvisational comic though . One of the greatest
Doesn't matter how old I am I still love these movies. I remember when I was a kid I would watch these movwas on black-and-white TV. Now I'm 66 I still love these movies even at my age.
I'm aware that the climbing spike scene is from They Stooge to Conga! In that episode, Curley gets electrocuted (ouch!), and Moe puts an electric bulb in one ear to filter out some of it, then Larry puts a screwdriver in the other to short him out.
If not counting Ted Healy as a stooge (I don't know that history too well) then Technically Shemp would have been the 2nd Stooge, Moe was the first to be a Stooge originally working with Ted, Shemp came along next then Larry came in 3rd making Curly the 4th Stooge. Shemp just left before it was fully established for more film styles then came back when Curly passed away.
@@jazonwhie5404 You have things a little mixed up! Shemp was one of the original 3 stooges along with Ted Healey until 1932 when he left the group to go solo. At this point Curly replaced Shemp. In 1946 Shemp returned to the act when Curly became too sick to continue. Curly died in 1952 and Shemp remained with the act until his death in 1955.
@@jazonwhie5404 Curly actually was the youngest brother of Shemp and Moe Howard and had replaced Shemp. Shemp left the act by 1932 to pursue a solo career in acting when Curly came in. Curly Howard started having health problems by 1945 including hypertension and obesity. His drinking problems affected his health to and had a stroke in 1946 ending his career with The Three Stooges and had only appeared a few more times in cameos. His older brother Shemp came back to replace Curly. Curlys health continued to deteriorate and had more strokes before his death in 1952. Shemp Howard stayed on with The Stooges with his brother Moe and friend Larry Fine until his death in 1955 of a heart attack.
6:54-7:05 Moe’s mind: “AAAH!” (Impact) “AUGH! I think I broke a rib! Ooh! Ugh! (Shakes head in pain) The show must go on! (Slowly gets up) Curly: What happened? Moe: Nothing. (Swipes hand at Curly and Larry) Curly: Oh! (After the take) Director: Cut! Moe: Oh! (Collapses, passes out) Moe: … Larry, Curly and/or anyone else: Oh goodness! He’s knocked out! He might have a broken rib! We better take him to the hospital!
Curley got injured in an episode where they were dressed as doctors. The gurney he was on tilted up and he went out a window as was in the scene. Somehow he got hurt
I have The Three Stooges Encyclopedia book in paperback it's great, lots of details in it, shows the most worked actors and actress how long they were with the stooges in the shorts. Catch verse there famous sayings and brief sketches.
Well, if you don't count Joe Besser and Joe DeRita. I was scheduled to meet Moe at a revival house event and he passed a couple of weeks before the event. I did meet his wife (Helen) , Christine McIntyre (tiny little woman) and Emil Sitka at the event.
@Phil Holmes Speaking of 'jealous', I think I'm jealous of the neighborhood you grew up in. Also, a while back I started a screenplay about the characters of the 'Motion picture Home'. Should have stuck with it, maybe.
Before watching this i can only recall Curly getting the best of Moe on purpose when Larry does it, its an accident BUT just 6 seconds into this video Larry got him good BY ACCIDENT !?!?
I'm surprised with all the antics they went through in the shorts I'm surprised that Moe survived with his sanity intact I mean he's been shot stabbed blown up shot into space shot through the air on a cannon shell shot with arrows just to name a few.
It's very rare that you see siblings working together in a comedy act like these brothers, that to me makes it not only funny, but very talented, to see brothers working side by side supporting each other, I find it very special and a blessing, they are truly missed, heaven is full of laughter now that they are there!!🤤😆🥰🕊🕊🌷🌺🌹🌻
