Whilst this Yamaha was probably a more 'luxury' offering in it's day, the test of time is catching up to the poor Beluga 80. Everything works as it should, but performance could be seen as 'lacking' by some. Either way, it's a fun bike to ride!

Reminds me of my Honda Lead 80 scooter. The rising front under brakes is weird but you become accustomed to it. Mine would cruise at 70km/hr and top out around 80km/hr with a 65kg rider. Mobility scooter tyres fit as replacements. They were built for longevity, not power. Steep hills with a pillion would see the single gear bog down. Loved the simplicity and the smell. Sold the first example, missed it and bought a second. Classics!

I owned a Honda Lead 125 at one point. Long before I started filming for the channel. It was a 2 stroke. Great bike.

I had one of these for years. I used it off road only, it is heavy for what it was, but it was given to me for free, and it was never registered from new as it was used on a private resort. I ended up giving it to my brother for his daughter to ride around with. I think we used it for about 15 years off road only and it always started and worked as it should. We removed most of the plastics and metal racks and it was about 40lbs lighter lol.

I’d be curious to see one without all the body panels! I imagine it would be unrecognisable. That’s awesome though. Sounds like you had a great - long time with the Yamaha.

I don’t have any pictures of it with it stripped down. It did look not too bad though. Many years of cheap and reliable use. No regrets.

HI Thanks for the video. I am from Cape Town South Africa. i have the exact same Beluga for years but was never able to drive it lol Still starts first time all the time, unfortunately cant seem to find a rear clutch assembly for it. Do you know if there is any other clutch and pulley assembly that would possibly fit thanks

Unfortunately I don't know what else would work - I know the owners here also struggle to find parts these days.

What would be a good price for one? Thanks!

It's hard to say! I've seen them go for all sorts of prices in NZ. From less than $1000 NZD for poor condition ones - yet they have everything there - right upto several thousand for absolute minters. Overall in NZ they aren't desirable because the 80cc engine means it qualifies for a higher registration and license category.

Just picked one up myself. Are they 6v or 12v? The manual I have says both? Cheers.

I think both existed! Does it already have an old battery under the cover? That should be a good indication. Otherwise find some other electrical components and often they have their voltage rating on the side.

Do you by chance know where the battery in this thing is?

Under the panel that sits below the seat/behind your feet.
