If anyone's curious, rats do indeed laugh when tickled, if they want to be tickled. Unsurprisingly, they don't laugh if they don't enjoy it. It's too high pitched for humans to hear, but there are recordings, that have had it lowered that you can look up..

About loading bars: many operations need different tasks to be run to complete. Since those can have different bottlenecks eg. disk write, download or processor speed, the speed of tasks relative to each other will be different on every rig and especially for downloads could change during the operation. There are things developers can do to make better estimates but inconsistency is inevitable. There are still times where it shows that no one cared. MY this has gotta stop is hiding everything behind simple looking interfaces! Have a list of the things that need doing and have loading bars for each like how most terminal apps work. It’s so much better for everyone involved including the people making it.
