Here is a ranking of Whale's Monstercat Discography. The most recent song is No Rules. Whales is a big hit or miss artist in my opinion, but he has an interesting style and has a lot of potential as an artists.
When listening to Whales talk about how he makes music, it kind of explains his music as a whole, and shows just how much effort he puts into songs, even if they sound empty at times. I mean the guy is making music for hours a day, and releases multiple demo songs on his twitter daily just because he loves to produce. The songs that he produces I feel are truly loved by him, as he does speak very fondly of his music, which is what you would like to hear from all artists; spending actual time to create something they themselves love. I'm also aware that his largest number of listeners are from the Middle East, so if us Westerners don't enjoy it, it must appeal to those people living over there lol. Overall, I think he is a master at what he does, and even if the majority of the Monstercat community memes on a certain song, Whales would still be very proud of it and enjoy listening to it, even if he was the only one. ok waffle over have a great dat and I love the thumbnail it made me sharply exhale.
the comment on #7 is rather true. whales' visuals have definitely become pretty funny since the rebrand (it's not love is the one i consistently trash on)
I mean, Whales has yet to actually impress me. No Rules to me is without a doubt his messiest song, and I don't come back to it at all. Reason being... I'm just not a big fan of the song. I mean, it does have good drops here and there, but yeah, I don't really care for the song as a whole. I'm glad you enjoy it though. Besides, I stopped bashing on this song since... ugh... Big Room released.
11. Not good 4.5/10 10. Nice 7/10 9. Meh 5/10 8. Excellent but I wanted a longer second drop 9.5/10 7. Hilarious animation that makes me not like the song. 5.6/10 6. Underrated 8.3/10 5. Good 7.5/10 4. Amazing 9/10 3. Unique 9/10 2. Transition into the DnB drop is still funny 8.8/10 1. Actually not a fan of this 6/10
Is it just me or is Riddim that kind of genre you have to gaslight yourself into liking? I used to fucking HATE Riddim, but now that I listened to a bunch of it, its one of my favorite genres. Some music is just like that
@@renzstudios649 You're absolutely right about that; Unfortunately, a lot of Riddim music is underwhelming or just bad. It's certainly very hard to get right, but when its done well it's amazing.
11 | 3/10 - I really tried to like this, but it's paced weirdly and flow is just a mess. 10 | 4/10 - Again, the flow is really all over the place, and hurts the song in general. 9 | 4/10 - I thought the original song was fine enough. 8 | 5/10 - Never heard this one, but it's alright. 7 | 5.5/10 - Solid, and great artwork too. 6 | 6/10 - The fact that this song was only 3 minutes leaves so much to be desired. The second drop could've transitioned a bit better. 5 | 8/10 - Probably my favorite from Whales so far. Production is great, and drops are very well thought through. 4 | 5/10 - This has a very Slushii-feel to this song, and that isn't really a good thing, cause this hurts the song quite a bit. 3 | 6/10 - Solid, and I definitely skipped over this myself. I'll give it another chance. 2 | 6.7/10 - I wouldn't listen again, but I do respect that creativity that went into this song. The second half I thought flowed a bit better than the first. Kinda wish there was a little more to that last drop in terms of duration. 9 minutes of a briddim-focused track, you'd have to know EDM for a bit in order to get through this. 1 | 8/10 - Based #1, I must say. And yeah, it's a banger in my book! Vocals are really good, and the artwork, once more, is fantastic. Overall: So, to be perfectly honest, I'm not the biggest fan of Whales. To take a note from Scales, a few of the songs he's released so far have been ~3 minutes. And to squeeze so much can be hit or miss, and unfortunately, proves to be a miss most of the time. Souvenir and It's Not Love are examples of how when you think things out and take the time to perfect, it sounds amazing. Other songs are not so lucky. Poor flow and production are the biggest hits that some of his songs take. I'm willing to give Whales a chance, though he's not an artist I'd listen to often.
His songs always feel so empty which is why he's never clicked with me. I actually like some of his Disciple stuff though, empty works better with riddim then melodic imo.
