For me as a client, Ive much preferred going to my barber in the private suite vs traditional shop. Idk maybe I’m a lil introverted but it just feels more comfortable and personalized. I’ve also been to a shop that just had 2 barbers, and that was great as well
@DjDazee

Yea and as a barber I vibe with ppl that are naturally introverted such as myself. I want to be able to work in a suite and almost "chill out" with my clients. Don't need the hustle and bustle of a shop.

I think it comes down to having the guts to run a business or not. Some people don’t want the pressure of owning and operating a barber shop.

As someone with social anxiety, I’ll rather cut from home where I’m comfortable and alone, but as a beginner I guess working at a shop is the way rn.

Covid forced me to make the move into a suite when I probably wasn’t ready but when you have the right motive and belief it CAN work. Ended up paying about 850-1000 a month at a to a suite for 650 then to another suite 400 a month under my apartment in less than a year. Covid helped change barbering for the better in the long run imo. No more whining about not wanting to make appointments from people.

No disrespect but you’re speaking from a position of pure ignorance. I built a 200 square foot unit in my back yard and make way more money than I did in a shop. With social media, Google searches and booking services, it really doesn’t matter where you work from because we can direct customers to any location…The money I spent to build the unit has already been recouped, so I’m all profit now. Admittedly, my first concern was definitely with people coming to my house but I quickly learned that it wasn’t a problem at all. Best decision I’ve made in my barbering career.

I been thinking of cutting at home, I've been in so many shops with dead beat owners, who don't promote there shop and every barber is out for themselves, I'm seriously considering turning some type of area in whatever new spot we about to get into a home shop, I'm also tired of dealing with these barbers and some of there selfish diva barber personalities maybe I'll do both idk, I'm just tired of paying a person every week who do t do shit but just provide a fucking chair

He can be cutting from Home and be booked all day. It would be the same from where ever you work if your booked all day and your charging what you would in a shop or more your not losing any money. You avoid alot of expenses, and not everyone wants to own a shop to babysit barbers, lets be honest not every barbershop is a happy place like the movie barbershop. Just like any bussiness you got employees that are late, on time, some are grinding, some dont take it too seriously, some cut good, some cut bad, some want to be comedians, some rached, some professional ect. It can be a great work atmosphere but it can also be a headache. Only thing bad about working at home is when you get new clients. There not your day 1 people so you don't know them as well, but like any other new client you adapt and after building a good amount clientele eventually you can run a business at home like you would a suite except you not paying 300$ a week or more to be in a small room where nobody can see you unless it's through social media or word of mouth, might as well cut at home If you have a gd spot or a nicely renovated gaurage, a drive way for your clients to park, from the time you open to the time you close your booked, then your not losing any money. Your working with appointments only, you dont have walk-ins coming in and out of your house and you do it right I think you'll b gd. Another thing is alot of barbers dont have flexibility and working from home is the best option at the moment in situations where they got kids or family they constantly have to look after and do things for, everyone situation is different. I think what u saying applies more to younger, single , hungry barbers who have no kids and have more flexibility in there life's to do great things in this industry. But if you been doing this for a minute, you know what your doing, your not crazy about being on RU-vid and all that you just about handling ya business... I think u gd from home bro.

I work in a garage happy my clients love it it gets lonely at time but you save a lot of money in overhead instead of the suite so let’s say I’m booked out all that profit is yours unlike a barbershop you will continue to pay rent and try to fit in into a Barbershop with a groupthink mindset instead Of believing in yourself what you could do end of the day what I’m tryna say you could do anything on your own i opened this spot at my place and made most money in career that I ever seen in my life but everyone has Different opinion of it and Diffrent experience

Barbershop to build clientele (mainly walk ins in the beginning) but man it’s all about the location tbh so choose wisely… Then everything else flows…the house calls will pop up… but be careful who you bring into your home if you’re garage cutting or kitchen cutting & if you don’t have enough clients*** or another stream of income that DOES NOT include clocking in*** to run a suite things can go south really really fast 😬 no matter what you choose to do always protect your peace ❤️🙏🏽

@@richnatural6429 I did, and all I took from it was that you said that if you don't have enough clientele it can go south, but that can go for any of these not just suite operators. 50 bucks a haircut in the states that sounds crazy to me, I am a mobile here in PR and I charge from 15 to 20 bucks for a decent haircut, because at the end of the day for me it’s about giving my client the best service while doing what I love, money isn’t the most important thing for me. We still going die being poor or rich we still going to die, we just have to live happy with what we accomplish and learn to appreciate it because it’s a gift from above
@Bossiocuts
@Bossiocuts 2 года назад
So charge what your worth and invest your profits back into your business… your clients would prefer a better experience over a discount… you could buy nicer chairs, complimentary drinks, hire a shampoo lady, buy nicer waiting chairs and tvs, the list goes on. Money is just a tool.

Damn wish I could’ve been part of this live. I’m in the same boat as my bro Moe. We both active duty Soldiers and have a barber studio in our homes. I don’t have the ability to commit enough hours to barbering a week to cover the cost of rent and be profitable. For that specific reason only I cut from home. If I was a barber full time I would prefer to be in a private studio/suite

Question i'm a new barber getting into the game I have the opportunity to work in a barbershop they charging 200$ rent a week for the chair. But they charge 35$ a full service cut with razor The problem is that you cannot raise your prices. Does this happen in many shops where you pay rent? But you have to follow the price guide of the barbershop I also have a setup in my basement. My goal is to cut but also do facial Services In the Barbershop, they do not do facials. This is where I felt I can come in set my own prices. Do my facial service with the cut and razor If you want a regular cut with razor you're more then Welcome to go to the next barber I know I don't have experience. And I need to start on a low price. But I feel like I'm selling myself short What is your opinion

I think this might be the first time a can disagree with you Bossio! I’m 20+ years in the business and I’ve been a shop owner, and a shop manager. Covid drove me to my garage to build a shop and with that I’m keeping 100% of my cut$ and I don’t have to work as hard to make almost double the money. My cuts are $40 and now I’m more flexible and available to my family. If I ever go back to a shop it will feel like a loss for me. Also not every barber can make 400k unless some barbers are giving you their commission. Somebody has to make less for you to make more.
@Bossiocuts
@Bossiocuts Год назад
Maybe you were in the wrong shop.. missing out on being able to facilitate both walkin and appointments is a hell of a opportunity you’re missing out on.. what you’re saying about someone having to make less for you to make more is so false lol… a booth rent shop owner only makes money from booth rent and that has a ceiling.. a individual barber has way more upside… a shop owner can make let’s say 50-100k a year from just the shop. just because the they’re the shop owner doesn’t mean they’re the busiest barber there. I know I made more money than the shop owner I used to work at even with him cutting and owning the shop.
@thewoodshedbarber
@thewoodshedbarber Год назад
@@Bossiocuts that’s possibly so. I’m fully booked with just appointments so I don’t have time for walkins regardless. And I’ve never been a fan of booth rent because too many barbers then don’t care about how the shops reputation is affected by lazy barber. To many of them don’t have the hustle mentality. I appreciate your knowledge bro. I am a old dog a little stuck in my ways. Who knows maybe one day I’ll find myself in Tampa looking for a job 👉🏼👉🏼

I’ve owned 4 barber shops in the past and sold them all after 12 years. After that worked in barbershops all over New York then in Tampa for 5years than poinciana shops for 6 years aswell. Then for 8 years in my garage. The problem is that barbershops in Kissimmee fl are still charging 25/35$ going into 2023. So in my case providing a service at home fully functional works out better for me. I’m home my kids can talk to me if they needed to if there was a emergency in my home etc for whatever reason I’m a few yards away. The shops are not really doing great numbers. Like before. After Covid the whole concept of walk ins slowed down extremely. It’s all about appts and scheduling. And most are still either charging 250$ weekly or 60/40 or 65/35 70% and in some cases percentage splits and most are still 25$ for a full set. Cause there’s dozens of shops everywhere literally unless you start blogging and you start building a strong social media presence and me personally I’m 40 years old and look 25. I don’t like taking pics of my work or trying to get ig views I built a name in my community and my work is fire and it speaks for itself. Coming home with hair all over your shoes and clothes sucks lol! So I don’t want to be cutting hair for to much longer it’s better to make money in your sleep than to be standing up plus there isn’t any health insurance or retirement fund it’s just cash and it’s like artist figure out the best way for you to take care of your family. I guess it’s just preference and convenience. God bless
