Have you ever wondered what helicopter pilots carry on them? A British Army Apache AH1 pilot gives us a comprehensive look inside his kit bag.
The British Army deployed Apaches to Estonia in April 2019 to augment NATO’s enhanced Forward Presence Battlegroup, which is led by the United Kingdom. The attack helicopters have practised integrating with multinational forces, participating in multiple exercises. The Apache’s speed, manoeuvrability and payload make it invaluable to ground operations.

In the British Army you are a soldier first, tradesman second. Well that's the theory in training and yes that even includes Apache pilots.

In a combat situation on the ground would the soldier dump any equipment to become lighter?

That’s up to the discretion of the individual soldier, but I don’t reckon they would, it all seems pretty essential

if you are scrapping for long enough and have set up RVs no point lugging around your daysack, drop it off with another section/fireteam and fight light

This is good that these Air Soldiers are properly armed and equipped. Two firearms are important, a main Short Long Arm and a Pistol. In addition a; Compass, Knife, Machete, Multitool with Wire Cutters,Folding Shovel, Paracord,Tape, Finger Nail Clipper, Fishing Kit, Hygene kit, Disposable, Gloves,Fire Lighter, Flashlight, Baby Wipes Soaked in Hydrogen Peroxide, Aspirin and Probiotics would be good add on's.

Hi How does helicopter pilot maintain safe distance of main rotor blades without hitting objects ? When low flying ....for example..I watched Fred north videos...how does he maintain the rotor blade without hitting mountains and trees? Is there any sensor ? Apprach Warning ?proximity sensors?

There isn’t any of those, the pilot has to have 20/20 vision and there is a wire cutter just in front of the gun and just below the large radar dome on the top of the aircraft

They did do it in a famous episode in Afghanistan. I believe it was the Royal Marines and 2 Apaches went back to rescue a soldier left behind. The Marines ended up flying back while strapped to the sides of the Apaches.

@@captainchaos4896 Ed Macy book Apache details the battle He also mentions the role of top cover pilots while they were on the ground especially Charlotte Madison ( pseudonym) The first British WOMAN apache pilot. She was the first pilot to unleash all her armaments....rockets....missiles...30mm machine bullets ( a term called Winchester) In her book DRESSED TO KILL she details her training...to be battle ready.( 18 months) and her 3 tours Two other woman pilots joined her later. Physical and mental stress...personal tragedy...especially misogyny...her battle to be accepted She did finally redeem herself Fascinating read There is a an actual video elsewhere of Apache pilot with Mathew Ford slung underneath..and top cover APACHE unleashing. No confirmation whether it was Madison's cab

This actually happened in Mali again in 2019. A French scout helicopter crashed and a tiger attack heli landed and picked the 2 pilots and 1 sniper before they could get shot.

What about canteen water bottles or a camelbak? Those small water sachets won’t last long!

I'd hope he has some some more water in his backpack. I think those sachets are mostly meant to fit in the vest as a bare minimum part of his survival kit.

No sweets dam. I nice to see the equipment you have but how many clips of ammo do you get both the machine gun and hand gun or can you rip of the M230E of the gunship and use it like the terminator lol.

Magazines qnd its a carbine, they are usually issued 2 or 3 mags

And no you can not use the 40 mm as a hand weapon, they usually carry glock 19s or 22s

I'm very curious now, what is that thing which you DO NOT GRAB? It's in such huge lettering and I only see it on the British helicopters

The DO NOT GRAB decal is added to the sunshade for the lower control panel. Both in British and US service, some people who are not experienced with the aircraft or maintenance crew just unthinkingly grab this to pull themselves up, instead of using the grab rails. As it's just a plastic shade, it would rip clean off if someone did that, which they have done frequently. Hence the decal, hope that helps.

Would have expected to see .... A bigger first aid kit A knife, blade of at least 4 inches Proper water supply ... Camelbak 3L Paracord If this chopper goes down, that is the stuff you are going to be grabbing

His bare essentials are all included in his survival vest. He's also going to be carrying more than the single water sachet he held up for the camera. There's some vests out there that are completely lined with water sachets like the one Eagle Indsutries and MSM worked on in the US. Having some cordage would probably be a good idea though, but probably not as a bracelet. Don't want that melting to your skin if there's a fire.
