What’s Next for Jodi Hildebrandt After Ruby Franke’s Guilty Plea to Child Abuse?

Ex-therapist Jodi Hildebrandt is expected in court next week after her former business partner, Ruby Franke, agreed to plead guilty to four counts of second-degree aggravated child abuse. Franke admitted she and another adult restrained Franke’s two youngest children with handcuffs, denied them access to food and water, and made them stand outside in the hot sun for hours. As part of her plea agreement, Franke is required to testify against Hildebrandt. The Law&Crime Network’s Jesse Weber checks in with KUTV2News reporter Brian Schnee to discuss what we can expect during Hildebrandt’s hearing.

Jody is such a danger to society in my opinion I really think she needs to be locked up and kept away from other prisoners. She's the Hannibal Lecter of mental health. I hope others come forward. She can't control the women there, and I don't think she knows how to make friends in any environment. Once she's committed, we won't know how she is doing. I'm going to be curious. I hope to God there's some kind of court order that forbids contact of any kind with the children.

KUTV2 has been doing a great job covering this horror show. Jodi’s house looks like a Gulag in the desert. And it was. Ruby should never walk out of prison. Kicking your kid in boots, stopping their air supply, waterboarding, putting hot pepper in deep wounds, barefoot in the Utah desert in the summer? We need to get stronger punishments for this nationwide. R looks so sad in those pictures with his ‘mother.’ He is such a hero.

Of all the things to punish a child for, they punished him for drinking more water after working out in the desert heat with sunburns so bad that the skin was sloughing. Unthinkable! I know I shouldn't think this way, but I hope the other inmates hear the details and deliver some prison justice.

@@YouArePreciousInHISsight Pam Botcher is/was the CEO of Conexxions. She had the middle two children on the day Ruby was arrested. Ruby rang her and got her to pick them up because she found out that RF had escaped and police were called. The Botchers had the girls cleaning the house (not for the first time) when the police finally tracked down where the two girls were.

I am guessing that the children told the police all of the things things that Ruby has been charged with? How else would they know what those kids have gone through. They are so brave if they were able to tell investigators about the torture they have been through. I can't comprehend how much this had to have messed with their minds, and I'm hoping they will be able to overcome all of this and become healthy happy human beings.

It's quite possible Ruby told them everything she's been doing. The police have very skilled interrogators that use techniques designed to make criminals want to confess all the details of their crimes. I doubt Ruby is mentally resilient enough to have withstood these techniques.

I think she plead guilty to avoid going to trial because it's hard to hear what she did to her children when it's read aloud. Imagine how much worse it would be hearing about the torture from the children themselves. Ruby knows the court of public opinion is against her right now, if she traumatized the children further by forcing them to testify she'd definitely get life in prison.

Am I the only one who was bothered when Ruby pled guilty, that she kept taking deep breathes & closing her eyes being a little too dramatic?? It’s good that she’s admitting guilt but she is technically placing the blame on Jodi. A lot of punishments mentioned are very similar to what Jodi’s niece suffered when she was under Judi’s care. Rudy is definitely an abusive parent before Jodi came into the picture, but this is Jodi’s MO. She is the bigger fish,there are more victims out there.

There is no deal other than the state dropped 2/6 charges. Ruby is throwing herself on the mercy of the court for sentencing and will help the prosection of Jodi - who is a very dangerous person

Thank goodness the neighbours knew about Jodi and did the right thing, contacting police and giving that brave boy a safe haven, giving him food and a drink while he waited for police to arrive. I doubt he would have locked the boy in his house than allow him to go with jodi. I've listened to that phone call so many times but when he becomes overcome with emotion, tears provoke my eyes.

I do think Jodi manipulated Ruby and was the leader but the only reason Ruby was able to be manipulated and easily led was because she was already an abuser. There is nothing anyone could say to me that could make me do those things to my child she is an adult no one should be able to manipulate her like that so she has to be responsible for that. But that plea hearing apology was the most insincere emotionless thing I’ve ever heard - to my family and children like her kids were only as affected as the rest of her family. I don’t think she sees them as individual people that have feelings and emotions.

Utah has indeterminated sentencing. She is going to be eligible for parole after serving 4 years. One year each is the minimum for four 2nd degree felonies. It's all up to the parole board whether they release her that early.
