I haven't seen this mentioned yet, so here goes. When reading a book on your Kindle, you can hit the 3-dot menu icon in the top right corner and select "Disable touchscreen". Now you can rest your thumbs on the touch-sensitive part of the screen without turning pages - you can still do that but you have to swipe, not just touch. To exit this mode, you simple press the power/sleep button. It might not be for everybody but I sometimes do it to change things up, so see for yourselves.

This is really helpful. I didn’t try it because I thought you can turn the page anymore. Thank you!

I'm right handed and hold the Kindle like Maneetpaul does, and I added a Pop Socket to the lower right of the Kindle and it's amazing. Game-changer to one hand hold the Kindle and turn pages with right thumb.

Thanks for the review Maneet! We're glad you like us. Some of our customers have found that you can actually use the straps with a clear backing case for the Paperwhite, and they still fit well :) and also, alot of our customers find Strapsicle more comfortable than Popsockets (they complain about hand cramps) - as you can change the position of your hand around - vs being fixed in one place.

Use a clear case and a pop-socket. Best solution; protection for the Kindle edges and comfortable to hold for extended periods.

This is a great product for those without a case. I also liked the community’s suggestion of a pop socket for those of us with a case. I don’t know why I had never thought of that before since I have one on my phone.

This is the reason I hope Amazon never gets rid of the Oasis!! It’s the best for usability. I wish it had some of the newer page-turn animations and such, but, I LOVE hand holding it and using the buttons. I agree with your assessment of the Strapsicle that it would take some getting used to. You’d be holding your book more like a platter than a standard gripping position with a turned wrist.

They should just make Oasis with USB-C.

I have a strap I use that goes from top to bottom that works well. Also, I've discovered with a case if you hold it on the bottom corner with your index finger between the cover and back, you get a pretty good grip.

When reading a long time I change the orientation to horizontal and hold it by the larger bottom bezel. I found this works for me and have saved it as a Theme

I've done the very same thing! It does feel comfortable to hold by the thicker bezel horizontally and I've saved it as a theme as well as a kind of shortcut 😊

I use an Anker Magnetic Phone Grip and I've stuck a very thin MagSafe compatible metal ring to my case. I can easily switch the magnetic ring between my phone and Kindle to have a comfortable grip, and when I take it off the thin metal barely weighs anything, it doesn't look too obvious and ugly and the whole system is very versatile and comfortable.

Amazon, PLEASE stop making them with smaller and smaller bezels just for "design" and completely ignoring ergonomics. Also, I can't believe after so many generations they still decide to keep placing the power button on the bottom after so many users complain most about. 🤦

This has got to be the most "First World Problem" I've ever had. I'm on my 4th Kindle (curr. Signature Paperwhite) and as much as I've adored them all they are so frustrating to hold without bumping the screen and pulling down the menu or hitting the power button. My first (2nd gen) had the official case but it's way too cumbersome and I can't give up the sleek feel of carting around a "naked" Kindle. But they really should take a cue from the Oasis and widen one of the side margins on the mainstream model as well. At this point I'd even give up a cm of screen to get a better finger hold.

I’ve always used a case with a folding cover. I can hold it comfortably as if it were a lightweight book. Some people like pop sockets. I don’t. Makes it more difficult to slip device easily into a pocket or sleeve. With my former paperwhite before I got a cover I’d read it while lying on my back. Left thumb resting along bottom and left forefinger going up the side and slightly in front on the bevel so the weight of the device rested against the finger when it was angled slightly downwards as I read.

Good discussion as always. I like the look of the product you shared and might give it a try. I've had a case made by Marware for an early Kindle that fits my Paperwhite OK and provides an elastic strap on the inside of the front cover. When flipped over to read you can slip your hand inside it for a sure grip. It uses elastic corners to hold the case in place which also covers the screen slightly. I've been using it daily since I upgraded to a new kindle and I'm pretty happy with the result.

So I do love your tips and ideas because that’s the sucky part about the Kindle is how do you hold it comfortably with one hand you know like it’s not as easy it was like an iPhone for example, there are easily comfortable ways to hold that with one hand and use it with one hand, but like the Kindle paperwhite, I’m always holding it with two hands because it’s so uncomfortable with one hand like I said, I could probably get 30 minutes before my legit thumb is hurting or I find a comfortable wait to hold it with one hand but then I can’t like swipe very easily if that makes sense, so definitely need to check out the straps that might be my better option. If I just had a hard shell, they didn’t close. It wasn’t a case that closed when you didn’t use it that I would probably try the popsocket. Yeah I have a Kindle paperwhite case that closes when you’re no longer using it I thought that’s why I never tried the popsocket because that is the case it closes when you’re done using it when I open it I fold it to the back until I can’t do that if there’s a popsocket there, so I’m gonna have to try the strap way because man I love my kindle paperwhite, but if I ever get like really into a book, I have to stop for a few minutes because my hand will cramp up and start hurting. So thank you for mentioning the strap. I’ll have to check it out. Thank you.

I hold my oasis with a pop socket and it would be ok if the kindle didn’t have such a sharp corner. It starts to hurt my hand. I would find it so much more comfortable to hold if the corners at the bottom were quite rounded. I know that oasis kindles are supposedly more ergonomic, but I don’t find it to be very comfortable.

New and first time Kindle owner here. Just got myself a Paperwhite 11 last week. Can confirm it is a dilemma. It's a bit too big to hold with one hand comfortably for a long time. I bought a case equipped with a handstrap, hoping it can help me hold it, but it's not comfortable either. My hand is small-ish and it feels like I have a cutting board strapped to my hand lol. So far the most comfortable way for me to put it down on a surface (in my case it's usually my bed), and then read it from there.

I have these straps and they are good quality and super soft silicon, but I hold my kindle close near the bottom w/ the corner of reader near my palm similar to how you showed that you hold your reader. You can’t hold it like that with these. You can pretty much only hold through the center. Also they do cover up the power button on the voyage devices for anyone who has a voyage. That wasn’t a big deal to me but may be to others. I just found for my size hands I can’t rest my thumbs near the bezel when my hands are through the straps, so I ended up going back to pop sockets.

I have the kindle case made out of cork but I ended up getting a basic silicone cover and put a popsocket on it. It works well but can also be tiring on the fingers.

I can comfortably hold the Kindle paperwhite with two hands and people are like oh you’re supposed to hold it with one hand. Well, I can’t seem to hold it comfortably with one hand itches. After a while it will start to hurt, and I have tried different ways at all and I thought about getting a strap but I also have a case for my Kindle paperwhite it is not a hard shell. It’s a case that also has a cover on the front. I forget exactly the material and even with that on I am struggling to find a comfortable spot where I can hold it with one hand and turn the pages and it’s just never been a thing, so I always end up holding it with two hands. I would like to hold it with one hand but it’s just after a good like 30 minutes my hand will start cramping and hurting and I thought about the straps or even a pop socket but my thing is I have a case and so I’m not sure a pop socket would be the best option because I can’t fold the cover the type of case has a cover the covers the front of the Kindle paperwhite so I can forward it to the back and hold it if there’s a popsocket blocking that. And I thought the straps would be good because I technically could still use it. Even with the front of the case is folded back I could still work I just wasn’t sure which one to get so I might check out that because a popsocket sounds like a better idea, but since my case when using it can pull to the back, I can’t really use a popsocket so I might try the strap. Because I have never been able to long as I’ve had a Kindle. I have never been able to hold it with one hand I’m always getting two hands because my thumb will start to hurt.

You don't have to have a hard case. Get a TPU one which isn't hard on your fingers plus it stops your Kindle from slipping out your hands.

I don't think the strap help, it did attach my hand with kindle but mine strap is too tight which cause my hand feel uncomfortable. I never a fan of pop socket either. I think upgrade to OA is the only way to fix the problem that Amazon create them self 😢

Problem? What problem? I read my Kindle 11 for around 2 hours plus per dqy and have never had a problem other than having to ch ge it around once a week. The claim of 10 weeks is ridiculous and unreasonable. 30 minutes per day and all the settings at around half? Get real! My previous Kindle was a Kindle 5 (Paperwhite 1) which is still going strong although it is no longer 'supported' by amazon. I can still load books from my library in the Cloud Only 2Gb storage but that will hold hundreds of books. I have no difficulty holding the device for long periods, it is lighter than a paperback book and much easier to manage I think people are imaginig problems that do not really exist outside their minds .
