Hey guys something happened when posting the video and the last bits of it is missing. Since it’s been quite some time since i posted the video, I can’t really do anything about it so I’m sorry if you find the end of the video a bit weird.

You have no idea how accurately they made this, from the game. No one has ever made a game for TV as good as they did. The set design, the dialogues between the characters... they really did it justice.
@Kaspisify

And the best part about it is that the things they did decide to change, they actually made better. I can't think of an example of a show where they changed something from the source material and actually improved it.

In terms of accuracy, The Last of Us really nailed it for sure. Felt like I was watching a scene from the game at some parts. But in terms of the best video game to TV adaptation, Arcane takes the cake for me. I don't believe it's entirely accurate to its source material which is why that throne goes to The Last of Us, but in terms of quality, Arcane is definitely superior. Don't get me wrong though, I love both of these shows dearly and they're close rivals, for sure. But Arcane, that show is something else, man.

I recently saw the news that this year, a 61-year-old Indian mycologist has contracted a silver leaf disease, which is a fungal disease that only affected plants before, and they say it's due to global warming that this fungus evolved to target humans. He made a full recovery, but that's still pretty scary.

The "kiss" at the end was it trying to speed up infection. Remember, infection spreads through the tendrils entering the body of the victim. Usually it enters through the bite. Tess was already losing control of her body (her arm when they were all talking, which is also why she couldn't pull the zip to make the lighter work) and combine that with her not being able to fight without it turning aggressive. She needed to light the fire not get torn apart. So she had to let the infection take control of her. Horrible.

Given what little Tess and Joel know about Ellie, *_not_* giving her a gun is 1000% the right call. From their point of view, she's statistically far more likely to shoot one of them by accident than an infected on purpose.

When I first watched this I was in awe how accurately the clickers were portrayed, they could have stepped straight out of the game, and it turns out the actors playing them were the same people who did the motion capture for the clickers in the game, fantastic decision.

Now you know why Joel, Tommy and Sarah were not infected. If you watch episode 1 again, you'll realize that they happened to get around all the baked goods. No cookies eaten from the neighbors. Joel forgot the birthday cake, etc. You have to keep in mind that the fungus basically does not want to kill, because it needs a host. If the host does not defend itself and allows it, the fungus will not become violent. That was the case with the kiss. Tess was already infected, but the fungus doesn't have to notice that at this early stage. Or the fungus wanted it to go even faster. The fungus becomes violent when you attack it, when you defend yourself. Then it can happen that the victim dies from the attacks.

Her sarcasm is one of the reasons Ellie became my favorite game character. This show really has moments that are scary, but many more moments that are very emotional. And for your question: Yes the show is very close to the game. I love the final shot with Ellie in front of the State House

I really enjoy how closely you notice the details in the show... One of the reasons I love this show (beyond how great an adaptation it was) is that it will prompt you to ask a lot of question, and it will answer nearly all of them, without being too obvious or too hard to get. The audience just needs to pay attention. You asked about how close an adaption it was, and there are a series of youtube videos to explain exactly that, and without spoilers! The IGN youtube channel has a series of videos called "The Last of Us Episode 1: TV Show vs Game Comparison" (just change which episode you're searching). Obviously don't watch past what you've seen, but I love showing people these comparison videos because it shows how well they made the show and I highly recommend them.

When you were talking about how Joel was not sharing his emotions, but had no problem talking about things like the infection/infected. There is another reason, than the one you offered. Joel was only willing to share (engage in) conversations that were important. How he FELT about something is--to Joel, under the circumstances--was not as important as sharing things that might save a life even his own.

4:12 "If you're lost in the darkness, look for the light." (Firefly slogan) - Ellie's name means "light" or "bright shining one". 5:45 She's the first one (that we know of) who is, but not the first one who claims to be able to make a cure. Probably lots of snake oil sellers over the years, just look how many miracle cures were promised during our last pandemic. 8:54 Tess was indeed 51. Although I'm in my late 30s and can already relate. lol Note: The original actress for in game Tess, Annie Wersching, succumbed to cancer a couple days before the airing of this episode. 10:41 Fungi are really allergic to UV light. Hence why they typically grow in shadowy places. 15:11 It doesn't but headshots are the most effective way. Generally if the host dies, the fungi can't do much but consume it. How much they can take depends of the stage of infection. If you want to know the stages, as they aren't actually explained in the show (could be still considered a minor spoiler so ignore the rest of the comment if you don't want to know): 1. Runner Earliest stage of infection and still resembles humans the most. They are fast and agile. 2. Stalker They have significant outgrowths and can actively hide & hunt for their prey. The one "kissing" Tess at the end was a stalker. They're similarly fast as runners. 3. Clicker The only one that gets named in the show a bit later and what you saw in the museum. Their outgrowths split the face open and cover much of it, blocking their sight, but also giving them a protective layer (usually requires 2 headshots to kill). They use echolocation like a bat in order to navigate and see (their "scream" which you don't want to be uncovered in front of). They also have excellent hearing. 4. Bloa*** ???

The scene with the old woman in Jakarta is a great example of 'RACE DIVERSITY' in entertainment, and the fact that she did such an incredible job BUT did not get an Emmy Nom is an outrage. I mean, watch her in the diner when the military showed up. She portrays the nerves she feels because she knows that if the military is there they are LOOKING for something. Then when she is seated sipping her tea and the general asks her what can be done, and she tells him to 'bomb. Bomb the city, and all the people in it.' She is a real actress and not just a performer. I hope she is going to win some kind of success in her career.

2:!3 30 hours, 14 missing potential infected not counting Patient Zero with a time table of 5 minutes to 24 hours to full take over. That is terrifying. 2:31 And that is why this Doctor made that poor Military man poop himself with one word: Bomb. 14:02 The jump scare is strong in this one, ten gold stars to the make-up department. Five Gold stars for the Actors as the Clickers. Five Gold stars for Set designers. 19:42 Tess is a Certified Badass, Most Badass of all the Badasses in the History of Badassiness. We are going to induct her into the Halls of Badassiness. Rest well you Badass.

Fun fact (or not so fun tbh) : The actress who played Tess in the game is Annie Wersching (aka Mama Salvatore in The Vampire Diaries) who sadly passed away just right after this episode aired when her character died as well🥺
@irrelevant_noob
@irrelevant_noob 11 месяцев назад
(Edit: my bad, i initially read that superficially, you DID say "played ... in the game," it just didn't convey the intended meaning.) You're confusing the actresses... Annie Wersching was the voice (and mo'-cap') of Tess in the game, so her role was complete 10 years prior to her passing. Tess in this series was played by Anna Torv. PS For anyone who didn't see her in the Diaries, she also played the Borg Queen in Picard.

Re: that gross "kiss" at the end, I don't know what it was trying to do, but I think the writers did it as a sad, tragic version of what Tess wanted - a final goodbye kiss from Joel. (not sure a kiss would've been safe since she was infected, but at least some sign of affection) You think at the time he might do it, but like you noted, he just left without a word. I mean, which is worse? .... well, the zombie of course, but I think you get my meaning. 😝
@V.elociraptor
@V.elociraptor 11 месяцев назад
The idea of the infection in the show, is that the infected have something of a unified consciousness. That's why they don't attack Tess - they can recognise her as infected already. Instead, as Cordyceps is seeking multiplication and full saturation of its environment, it "bonds" with Tess, in order to complete her transformation. Tess doesn't move or fight back for two reasons. Firstly, she's losing motor function rapidly, and she can hardly even focus on the lighter, let alone defending herself. Secondly, her mind and body is turning to the will of the Cordyceps hive-mind - the ever-increasing part of her that’s infected *wants* to touch and be touched by the other infected.

Ellie is sleeping in the fetal position. She's holding on to herself. The green and life nature takes over around her as if saying something like: in the face of all the destruction that we will face, there is this young girl here who intertwines perfectly with this nature. This young woman symbolizes nature itself, which advances and persists, despite us trying to impose ourselves against it. On one side Ellie in the light and bright green and on the other Tess and Joel, in the shadows, sitting in the artificial that is already born dead. The couple argues about this piece of light that is in front of them. Tess convinces Joel of the obvious: taking care of that girl.
