@OneGuy I can’t say for sure, but by the words u used (feeling stuck) I get the feeling ur trying to play pieces that are too hard for your current level.
@pedrohenriquesgarcia8833
@pedrohenriquesgarcia8833 Год назад
@OneGuy hm I don’t think not playing pieces is ever a good choice to take. Ereryone I ever saw learning piano has always learned the most from practicing pieces, but by practicing pieces, I mean doing so correctly. Not rushing the tempo, always slow and progressively getting the tempo higher. I don’t know how much time u have to practice, but if u have like 1 hour per day, I d recommend you play one piece at a time, and do 20 minutes of technique, and 40 of ur piece. U should choose a piece that takes u around a month to learn, 3 weeks to 1 month, no more Han that. If you find it to boring to play one piece at a time only, u can play two at a time, but with only 1 hour daily I wouldn’t personally recommend it, from my experience. The most important thing is to have patience, never try to be better than you are, just play what you can master in 3 to 4 weeks, and u will progress much faster, increasing the difficulty of the pieces u play every time u change piece, if you have more time to practice you can play a more difficult one that takes u like.. idk, 2 to 3 months. But if u do so, always play an easier one at the same time (2 weeks to 1 month). If you lack basics u shouldn’t stop playing pieces for a while. Pieces are the better way that exists to practice both basic and advanced technique, u just have to choose the right ones to your level. Also, Trills aren’t a priority, it more of a particular technique, but you should prioritize finger dexterity, evenness, etc etc.. if u want, u can share with me what u r playing now and wht u ve already played and I can try to help u choose a fitting repertoire that is also fun. PS: I’m no expert or teacher, but I ve been playing for seven years now (I’m slo 17) and met multiple people regarding this area and also struggled a lot with finding a fitting practicing method so I have some experience in the matter.

@jewelmarkess
@jewelmarkess 3 месяца назад
@@WilliamDurrant-ll8xy Really? This particular one? Or a simpler one like op 25 no 2? Also at the speed in this video or slightly slower? Oh well, maybe you are right, if someone is really diligent and dedicated, it's possible. (edited to add) Looking at old videos of Yuja Wang. There are recordings of her at 12 playing a Chopin etude, also Fantasie Impromptu. She started at 6, so this would make it her 6th year. This would be the timeframe you mentioned, but she was Yuja Wang and her progress was not common. I guess you are right - it's possible if someone is really diligent and consistent, but also talented.

Sure, there are plenty of super talented kids who make your progress seem less impressive, but it’s truly very good! Most people I know quit before they got to your grade (in music) or didn’t play pieces like those until they were 15-16 years old. Be proud of your skill! Also, you’ve got a great taste in music!

@@labradortea7873 Thank you very much, your comments are really kind! You're right, the pieces I mentioned were advanced, but I meant more along the lines of the fact that I have an inability to sight-read pieces or learn pieces quickly. I can play advanced pieces but it takes me much longer than other people at my level. I would often play a piece by how the ryhtym sounded, write out the notes, and rely purely on muscle memory. However, in the past 2 years I've focused much more on trying to actually read the music and have made some progress. I assume you like classical music too. :) What are your interested in? Do you like Chopin?

The thing is, even though it's quite impressive, there's always that one asian young prodigy who like sight reads Hungarian rhapsody after seeing it for the first time, in a world class competition at age 6 after playing for three weeks and destroys the self esteem of every musician in a 10,000 kilometer radius

I think that almost every musician or aspiring musician has a love-hate relationship with prodigies. On the first hand, you got their appreciation and respect over their virtuosity and artistic skills that they've developed extremely quickly. And on the other hand, you've got pieces of their what was their self esteem

memorise page at a time. make your fingers like granite focus keeping your wrist in a certain position. locked. and just move your fingers into the keys like a catapult sought of. when you play your wrist can move freely as you wish but with very strong and fierce finger control.
@richardtan678
@richardtan678 2 года назад
I think it’s quite the opposite, loose wrist that can flap to either side can help so much more for me personally. I save lots of energy of my 4-5th fingers by simply leaning my wrist that way every pattern. But it may definitely vary from player to player
