If russ wins a ring he’s not passing them because they both have more career accomplishments and are just better players. And Steph being a second option in 2 out of 4 rings doesn’t matter. He averaged 27 ppg, 9 apg, 8 rpg and 2.2 spg on 56-47-93 splits in 2017 and 28 ppg, 7 apg, 6 rpg, 1.5 spg and 0.8 bpg on 40-40-100 splits in 2018. That’s still superstar numbers. Let’s go year by year when he didn’t get a triple-double average: 1960-61: 0.3 assists away from averaging a triple-double 1962-63: 0.5 assists away from a triple double 1963-64: 0.1 rebounds away from a triple double 1964-65: 1 rebound away from a triple-double 1965-66: 2.3 rebounds away from a triple-double The lowest ppg average in one of those seasons was 28.3 ppg while Russ’s lowest in the 5 year stretch he averaged one was 22.2 ppg. The highest Oscar averaged was 31.4 ppg while Russ was 31.6. Not that big if a difference and that was the only season Russ ever averaged 30 ppg, while Oscar did it 6 times. Also Big O is a 6 time assist champion and 1 time scoring champion while Russ is a 3 time assist champion and a 2 time scoring champion. I’d take the combined 7 major stat championships from Big O above the 5 from Westbrook. So now tell me how would Russ be better or greater than Big O in any way shape or form if he wins a championship as a third option

Doubt the defensive issues would translate well to the playoffs considering that offense is also harder to come by as well. I love watching the Kings though and their fast paced offense.

In all honesty I think he was part of the problem but not THE problem. The lakers not only got rid of him but also FINALLY got some shooters which they desperately needed and a true connective tissue guy in Vando. A lot of things happened at the same time outside of just losing Russ for the Lakers to start doing well.
