I heavily agree with the refund take. I went to see the OKC vs LA game earlier this month and was super excited to watch SGA, Bron, and AD play and suddenly none of them are even playing and its like a day before the game. So I basically spent 400 bucks to watch Giddey and Dennis Schroeder play instead of SGA and LeBron
@@luna5x177 cuz football is more of a team sport?? Also players don’t load manage in football like they do in the NBA and usually you’ll know when a player is playing and isn’t playing.
I really hope we get a Kings, Lakers 1st round matchup, cuz if they knock off his boys I know Sage gonna be FUMING, with all the trash talk he’s given that Franchise.
The Kings can't defend. Electric offense, literally one of the best in the league, but the way that team is built is destined to fold in the playoffs. Given how the Lakers look if they're fully healthy then I'm sorry, that isn't happening.
Question for Sage... I recently rewatched your vid about the Bucks championship and Im still wondering what block of Giannis in the finals is the one that was "slept on". Care to tell us? 😁😁😁🤣🤣🤣
I think it would still be in better hands with Stern because silver is too soft which in turn has made players take advantage of his personality. Make these ppl honor their contract, they keep saying they know it's a business but then they go and try to make it my business inside this business that don't work without consequences and they expect no consequences.
The most 30 40 50 60 70 point games happened before the 2000s, 16 of 20 of the highest scoring games happened before the 2000s. You're wrong. Lmao defense is better now.
I get it but call it crazy I ball played against d1s even bonez in de back in the day and let me tell even playing with and against it’s physical like streetball and it shows bonez today the reason why he a bucket and has crazy ball control so playing physical Or being explosive makes a huge difference that’s from experience so yes today they make more points and are better but the game has been made for easy buckets compared to back then and that’s facts the little calls in todays game we cry over but in pick up it’s not something that going to be called besides the nba due to the rules 💯
For the comment at 1:26 back in those days organizations did a great job of putting town on the wrong players they did it with the suns of Charles Barkley is with a knicks with Patrick Ewing win the the magic with Shaq so a lot of the top players did have good opportunities to go to the playoffs and win the championship so I don't know why people try to come with this narrative to save the bulls were a super team and he had so much talent just a benefit LeBron James cuz that's not
I agree that defense is "better" these days in terms of defenders are more skilled and defensive schemes are much more intelligent and sophisticated. The way they defend off-ball and rotate today is better than it ever has been in history. HOWEVER, defense is obviously at a huge disadvantage and therefore worse. They need to change the rules to give defenders more leniency. No hand checking, but allow them more room for contact and don't punish them when the offensive player goes into them.
Defensive schemes could be better but how can you say defenders are more skilled and also acknowledge it's disadvantaged and worse. How is the individual defender better than 15 yrs ago?
@@JT-km6th 15 years ago was 2008. the rules weren't that different from today. the evolution of offenses has a much bigger impact in how it looks like there's "no defense" these days than anything else.
@@shepardice3775 With load management many players do not waste energy on defence and only play offence. Also as the game as evolved, training has evolved with it. Players train offensive moves to outscore the other team rather than defensive to stop the other team. Thank analytics. Have you played basketball before? You should know that.
Because he lost 5 out of 9 finals, got swept once, and had two series where he won only one game, all on manufactured superteams. Not to mention the horrible 2011 finals. Then you have steph, who changed the game, formed a dynasty, beat Bron 3 out of 4 times, and if you ask anyone who you feared to play more, it would be him.
@@AfroTsu And Bron only has chips because he has to stack the deck with top talent. At the end of the day, he lost 3 out of 4 to Curry. All of those numbers don't mean jack if you lose.
The NBA focusing on individual players instead of teams is what helped grow their popularity in the first place. They were at their lowest when they were focusing on teams until David Stern came and decided to market “Magic vs. Bird” instead of “Lakers vs. Celtics.”
I think this could end up being similar to the Magic/Bird era where because they faced each other so much and had comparable impact, we might view the era as both Steph and Bron’s.
If we just named era's after teams instead of players though it would be just golden state since bron started w heat then went to cavs. But yea definitely missing a duncan somewhere..man got 5 chips, needs some love lol
@@JoshDanielAnglo i mean hakeem did win 2 but..they never faced the bulls in the finals..so its more of a blip? whereas kobe and duncan faced off multiple times in a west dominated decade
@@JoshDanielAnglo true from 2000-10 Kobe won 5 and Timmy won 3 that's 8 out of 10 From 2012-22 LBJ won 4 and steph won 4 that's 8/10 could have been 9 if Kobe didn't lost in 2008 and 2004 and Steph didn't in 2019
not really dude cause lebron was clearly a better player than curry for the 2010s. people act like they were going head to head but never take into account context. lebron was the best player in the league overall since 2010 till 2018 and 2020 again. you could argue 2016 for curry but lebron beat him that year overcoming a 3-1 deficit which really justifies any minor injury the warriors had. Before that was a series in which injuries did played a major part as lebrons second and third option were out for the majority of the series, and even with that people were so starstruck by lebrons performance that they wanted to give him the finals mvp despite losing. finally 2017-2019 it was an argumewnt between curry and durant being the best player on the warriors that should be enough said, and considering durants performances in the finals, he probably was the best player in those warriors teams the only player in my opinion that was the best player in the league in the 2010s other than lebron was kawhi in 2019. during the 80s it was a back and forth between magic and bird, with bird being better than magic for a couple of years without fucking jordan or hakeem joining one of them to make it completely unfair.
Hot Take: The NBA should adopt FIBA rules. This way the game will be more globalised, defence will get better and let's be honest a lot of the NBA rules are just dog water.
@@Lloyd00 u can be in the paint for longer, I followed the eurorbasket and u hardly had niggas averaging over 25, jokic was ok at best but giannis and luka were going hard but not putting up anything near the stats they have in the nba
As a football (nor American) fan who's only gotten into basketball over the last couple of years its kinda crazy how discourse and discussion both on Social Media and the media in general is SO player-centric rather than team centric like it is in European football. We get dumb former players as pundits who would defend their team to their last breath and call out every minor inconvenience in rival teams, but that's the thing: Manchester United and Liverpool, for example, have a rivalry going back almost over a century, it doesn't matter if one of the two teams is having a good year or both are having a shit year, or both are competing for the title: the game between the two will always be a headliner and as a United fan, whenever Liverpool lose it puts a smile on my face and I get on twitter and just shoot from the hip at scousers everywhere. Its almost therapeutic. Ex-United players would jump at every chance to shit on L*verpool and vice versa. If someone moved from Arsenal to Tottenham they'd probably be labelled Judas for the rest of their life and never be accepted into parts of the city, but when someone moved from Lakers to Clippers no one really gives a shit lmao Maybe because teams can just decide they're changing cities and it feels like the franchises are only using the stadium and the city rather than representing the city that people don't really care about the teams themselves?
It's the same for Canadians and hockey. I think a lot of it has to do with American individualistic culture IMO It's entertaining, but self destructive imo
For the take about it being Curry's Era and not Lebron's, what "Era" are they talking about? 2015 to Present? Because Lebron was winning MVPS and Rings before that. It just sounds like he forgot Lebron has been playing for 20 years.
19:29 In the second round of the playoffs in 2016, KD DOGGED Kawhi, but people don’t remember that lol they’ll only bring up 2017 where I wish Kawhi stayed healthy that series but everyone knew Golden State would win in 5 anyway
7:30 kind of agree tbh. Because those tickets become expensive in the first place because big names are attached to them; so when that big name isn’t there then the ticket shouldn’t be as expensive. Cav game tickets before Lebron got there in 2014 were like $20-40 for good seats, Lebron got there and they went up to like 700
Lmao I loved their reaction to my Ja and Drose comment Just wanna make it clear they asked for hot takes and I provided, I in no way think Ja is actually better😂
13:55 Lebron made it to the finals 8 years out of 10 that decade like I get the east was weak. TRUST me, I get it, but what are we doing here bro cmon 😂😂
I went to a Heat game back in 2014. To celebrate my getting into the university, I wanted. My wife and I were extra broke, but she got family and friends to chip in because she knows how big of a Lebron and Dwade fan I am. To be honest, I live in FL. I am a big Dwade fan. Neither of these 🥷 played, and the team lost. It was a cool experience, but it could have been incredible if at least one played for a few minutes.
The same way you said Magic-Bird Era, The 2010’s was the Lebron-Curry Era. But if we’re picking one person it’s the guy who spent 8 out of the 10 years in the Finals.
@@ridaelmoutaoukki2047 Injured Kyrie and Love in 15’ , blew 3-1 in 16’ (null) in 17’/18’ , gave us our first franchise ring in 19’🥰… that’s it for the decade 22’ don’t count in that😭😭
Lebron run on the league starter to dwindle in 2013. If draymond didn’t kicked and they didn’t get time off to rest for the bubble, it’s been alll curry
Does Sage even hear what he’s saying, you don’t buy a lebron ticket or a Kobe ticket you buy a lakers ticket that’s different than a concert ticket where you buy the ticket explicitly for the specific artist
While I see what you're saying at the same time if I we're to buy a Cavs ticket back when LeBron was there, I wasn't showing up for Tristan Thompson and Jr Smith 🤣
Honestly, I think what the dude who was talking about the Bulls front office having a large role in Mj career was trying to get at. Is that a lot of people think MJ just did everything solo, didn't need a team whatsoever but when it comes to other all time greats like LeBron and Steph people immediate look to their teams for why they do good. It's just a kind of keep the same energy take.
@exiledknight3961 not in the same way as other superstars. Whenever you bring up 2016 LeBron, you hear more about kyrie Irving than LeBron himself. But bring up MJ, and scottie and Rodman get a dismissive mention before contuined talk about how great MJ is. It is definitely not equal treatment
John Wall might make it. Not the craziest thing I heard. 5 time all star, all nba team and all defensive team, rookie first team. But most importantly, 2014 Slam Dunk Champion.
Ok y’all kinda contradicting because y’all saying kawhi needs to win even though kd hasn’t done that since the warriors at least kawhi did it without a superteam and can’t say injuries because then every chip would be invalid
Cousins peak was when he had Malone as his coach and now look at jokic... pretty similar skill sets. Kings really f’ed boogie by firing him. Just imagine if the kings had Malone still and let boogie develop with somebody he actually for once respected (and this from a lakers fan too)
I feel like an all-encompassing GOAT title is pretty meaningless when comparing people in completely different contexts, and completely different factors influencing perceptions, but ngl it is pretty boring to say "Jordan's the greatest of his time, LeBron's the greatest of his time" etc
I hate that they both might miss the postseason this year, though LeBron missed in the playoffs two seasons in a row and curry missing the playoffs a year after winning the title seems like a joke as NBA fans we deserve one more postseason matchup between the two
Listen I don’t like cousins, but Embiid was not at his level at that time. Maybe now Embid is better but that’s arguably considering that neither has accomplished anything
Lebron can defend, shoot, pass, dunk, curry can shoot pass like you cannot compare lebron to curry cause lebron is a way better player and influencer than curry but curry is up there too
0:10 this take just shows how our mindset as a society is to prioritize the feeling and needs of the owners and not the workers. Even though the person who made that take is most likely a worker he cares more about how the owners feel then the players smh
@@TheMcTwist my thought about the comment was that we should do a NFL type model where people are more invested in the teams and the shield not the players and that’s a opinion that prioritized the owners
Weird coincidence as I was genuinely thinking this a few days ago and I would give it to Steph exclusively because of how he completely changed the way the game is played, yes lebron is the best player to play in the last 20 years pretty much, but the 3 point shot since Steph came in the league has impacted the entire nba as a whole
See I was just thinking about this being great should not be only based on if people tried to replicate it. Steph curry impact is way more obvious to see with social media and all the threes and kids and younger players. But lebron was the first player that could do it all on offensive his the player that birthed the term “heliocentric” offense. Lebron was so good that you didn’t want to take the ball out of his hands as a coach cause you knew your team would not be as dominant. Also his player movement and player freedom inspired other player to not feel pigeoned holed in one team for ever. I mean NBA team in general are still to this day structuring a team around a all time do it all great player I.e a jokic, Giannis, even better luka. LeBrons impacted on the game is very prevalent.
the thing about the era thing is that some people value the achievements of the past like oldheads or completely discard it like yall so how do we compare different eras
Analytics changed the game not steph himself is what Curry fans don’t realize. If you ask most new gen players who their fav player is they’ll say LeBron
Steph doesn’t even come close to iconography either. LeBron has had multiple Iconic playoff series (excluding the finals) vs the celtics, pacers, raptors. Curry has the 2016 series with Okc & the infamous 2018 series with Houston?
2015 on but then you have to cut 2016 out. And 2017, because LeBron became LeSuperSayan and carried the bad team on his back. Though Steph's shooting revolutionized the game, but Lebron's dominance is nearly uncatchable
If KD didn’t go to the Warriors and they won then it would of been Curry’s era but it was Lebrons era losing a 3-1 league added a lot to Lebrons legacy
I understand where curry peak started it wasn’t 2010 but from 2010 until now he has matched Bron in Rings and had never left his original team to do so he in fact did what every team and organization sets out to do build thru the draft get the right coaching staff and front office and recruited top free agent stars this can go down as curry era with all that stats quality over quantity
17:43 John Wall could make the Hall of Fame. Technically, you could start three years in high school and qualify for the Basketball Hall of Fame. Because there's no PRO Hall of Fame like there is with baseball, football and hockey. Even NASCAR, golf and tennis have a professional HOF. Start a pro basketball Hall of Fame and rest assured, goofy ass takes like that will never be said outside of John Wall's inner circle.
Bro😂 there is context for every finals that your not staying cuz ur a curry glazer. U make it seem that Curry all by himself destroyed lebron😂 in all of their finals matchups lebron put up way better numbers cuz he had too. Curry had guys like kd iggy klay and Livingston to be scoring options and draymond and javale for defense and lebron went to 8 straight finals and won 4 in this era. Also lebron has more fmvps and mvps and all nba and defense teams than curry🤷🏿♂️ It’s fax
No smart people will look back and see the context behind that stat and realize it doesn't tell the full story. For example: Lebron statically outplayed steph in every finals matchup on both ends of the floor.
@Sac12 I disagree they will just look at who won more we don't talk about how MJ played all.we talk about is 6-0 & that's what they look at with Steph 3/4 against LBJ. It will be wrong but that's all we talk about who Won.
Last I checked Curry only has 1 finals MVP LeBron has 4 not to mention Curry played under KD not the other way around Jordan never took a backseat to no one.
I dont want to disrepect the Cavs, but HOLY FUCK did they let LeBron down TIME AFTER TIME AFTER TIME again. Nobdoy talks about that, instead its Lebrons fault that he had JR SMITH IMAN SHUMP AND TRISTAN THOMPSON as starters in his prime. Yeah he had Kyrie and the left overs of Timberwolves K Love, but Cmon you really rather take Kyrie or Love over Dennis and Scottie ? or Klay and KD?? Yes he couldve left, but its a cheap comeback imo
That refund thing y’all talking abt is relatable bc me and my mother just went to a warriors game and Steph klay and draymond didn’t play and we was sad but at lest they still won
The NBA peaked with Jordan. Find another MJ then you will have another 15 year period of global dominance. That’s why “the next Jordan” was some of the most overused statement post 2000. The uniqueness of MJ is why “the next Jordan” has slowly morphed into “LeBron is the goat”. But the viewing figures, sneaker sales (also rings, dpoys etc..) and non basketball fan recognition globally says keep searching for “the next Jordan”. When you find him, we’ll tell you. We. From outside the USA. We will tell you.
When it comes to GOAT. Your game should translate to you being the Greatest of each era. With that being said only 4 player have that ability. Luka, Giannis, Steph, bron, Mike. And I’d narrow it down to bron Mike and Steph. And Steph takes the goat case with mvps, 4 rings. ball handling, coordination, inside outside shoot creation top tier. Gravity, off ball motion and movement. Leadership. And in the 50s -70s he’d kill from 18-26ft then driving and out dribble out speed. In the 80s-90s he’s moving off ball and killing with 3s Ik transition averaging 35. In the next 3 decades he’d have more freedom to dribble and leg hard fouls.
If we going decade by decade bases it’s deadass disrespectful to not say it’s LBJ era from 2010 to 2020 he won 4 championships was in the finals 9/10 seasons and was injured the one year he wasn’t 😂 was a back to back MVP had 4 FMVPs won champions on 3 different teams and his competition for it would be Curry who was a nobody till 2015 by LBJ standards and he won 3 championship ZERO FMVPs he literally wasn’t the best player on his team for 2/3 chips and the one time the 2 played with even rosters 3-1 happened 😂 there’s a reason ones the goat and the other is fringe top 10 💀 but if u talking how he changed the game with his shooting sure I guess.
The answer is simple: It's the Lebron-Warriors era. From 2011 to 2020, its the Lebron era cuz he was the best player 80% of the decade winning 4 chips. Also Warriors era cuz they were the most feared and dominant team winning 3 chips the 2nd half of the decade. But that's just me 🤷😂
Why is lebron better ? Cuz of stats ? Lebron basically averages 28-7-7 every year… which is impressive… but we gonna sit here and act as though curry not averaging 30-6-6 (Jordan careers stats) on damn near 50-40-90 splits…. While having more team success
how about Curry/Warriors Dynasty on Lebrons Era(2012-present)? like Lakers, Heat, Pistons, Dallas, Boston, etc Dynasties happened on Spurs Era (1999-2018)..
Kawhi got one ring* against a Warriors team missing 2 of their starters (Raptors were getting cooked until KD got injured) in a finals that they were ONLY able to be in because of the luckiest shot in NBA history and all of a sudden he's the "best player in the league" yeah, 2 rings to his name and one came from playing with Tim Duncan the other was entirely luck. Come on now, stop it. Fuck, I mean at this point Paul George is equal too if not better than Kawhi. They have the same skill set except PG plays more games. Even if you wanna say Kawhi is a better defender it's close, whereas in offense George clears him. He can do everything Kawhi can while having a better handle, more athleticism, better playmaking, and unarguably a better 3 point shooter.
If you gonna give the 80s to Bird and Magic, you gotta give the 2000s to Kobe and Duncan🤷♂️or even Shaq considering they both have more finals MVPs than Kobe. No shade towards Kobe, just keepin it real
If Kawhi stayed healthy for the 2017 WCF against the Warriors, Warriors in 5. As soon as Kawhi went down in Game 1, the Spurs blew the lead and got smacked and swept. If they couldn't maintain without Kawhi, there's no reason to believe that he would've changed the result of that series.
2010-2020 was lebrons era 2020-2030 is probably giannis’s era Lebron won 4 mvps to Stephs 2 4 finals mvps to Stephs 1 6x all defensive teams to Stephs 0 18x all NBAs to Steph 8 19 all star appearances to Stephs 8 1 assist title to Stephs 0 The list goes on and on lebron is better
If some takes of the past are “That’s my nindo my ninja way”, Then this take “Curry’s Generation” take is “The name of this era should be Whitebeard!!”. No mfs this is Gol D. Roger’s era 😂
You guys missed the GOAT debate suggestion,... There's an argument to be made that Magic is just as good a PG as Jordan was an SG, and in that case, Magic can be considered the GOAT since he is the best player at his position... Think of it this way, the gap between Magic and Steph might be wider than the gap between Jordan and Kobe, in that sense, Magic is the greatest player of all time... In theory...
Not sure what happened on that last comment... Sage talkin' 'bout Kawhi needs to win. Bro he did. What're we sayin'? I mean, I honestly can't stand Kawhi and his bullshit not playing nonsense, but he literally DID win, so. He's not better than Durant, let alone "clearly", but still. Winning isn't the thing that'll prove anything because he already has.
Is Lebron and is not even close. Future generations will never understand the level of scrutiny that that man played under. Every Lebron playoff game was an event waiting to see if he would fail. Curry could just be great without being compared to the greatest player ever. When Lebron was in the finals in the bubble, shows were opening with “how would AD winning mvp affect Lebrons legacy” lol
Bro sometimes I lowkey feel like you guys don’t know ball and jus be sayin shit 💀 obviosuly defense is better now, jus spacing and offence is getting exponentially better that a skill like defence which is reaction based will always get beat, when guys are able to carry and travel and can make shots off dribble pretty easily unlike how it used to be, like obviously defence is going to bite and than player can jus drive past em. Like ion know in my opinion the issue isn’t defence now a days it’s how broken the system is for offence, the best defender in the world from the 60-90’s would be gettin they shit snapped by kyrie don’t even play.
I’ll agree that the 2010s is curry’s era if we keep that same energy say the 2000s era was Tim Duncan and not Kobe. Cuz at this point y’all might as well erase everything lebron has done since y’all hate him so much 😅😅😂
