Exactly!!! He was awesome to deal with!! He KNOWS he made a mistake. He owned it and took responsibility. Yet people still feel the need to put him down for making a mistake??? I just don't understand. The people that are criticizing him can't honestly say they have NEVER made a mistake. We ALL make mistakes. If more people handled their mistakes like this gentleman did, this would be a much better world....IMO. Thanks for watching and God bless.

I think most recovery drivers .....as we call them in Britain ..... are fully concentrating on solving the problem as presented to them. Upsetting the casualty driver is pointless as he (or she) will then be less likely to be of assistance in carrying out the recovery job. That's my opinion .... but I have only been doing the job for 32 years .... so I have a lot to learn !!!

I've seen entirely too many drivers with their heads down blindly following a GPS, or worse, the mapping app on their phone. We have a small industrial area near me and drivers will blindly roll past "No Trucks' and "Weight Limit 5 Tons" signs because the GPS tells them to go down a residential street. Then they wonder why they can't get past parked cars or make any turns. For what it likely cost that driver for your services, he probably could have purchased a GPS designed for trucks. But nothing beats using your eyes and your brains to stop and work out the problem before you get into trouble -- and those don't cost a penny. Ron, you have the patience and grace of a saint.

Hrrm, another driver once said : my max is 1800 metric tons and my paper usually says that the current weight is 1800 tons but sometimes .... my locomotive pulls like that those tons is a little bit overweight (the route he is bound towards has a max of 1800 metric tons...) That perfect match of loading compared with what is allowed is suspicious... and no the railway authority and administration will usually not check a train's weight compared with that a highway patrol can decide to do. :-( Hint: this is sweden and well our locomotives isn't as heavy as an american (around 85-88 short tons depending on type.)

Hey Ron, after watching these great videos, I thought it might be a good idea even though it might look silly to get your self a toy model semi and cab to have in the truck to actually show not only your workers but to show the customer what exactly you're going to do, where to hook up the cables, etc. Many times I've seen your guys somewhat confused about where you want them to hook up the cables, what the end result will be, etc. This might help them be a little more efficient and save a little time where jobs have to be done in tricky situations. God bless!

And this is exactly why we, in the narrow streets and cramped confines of UK roads, use almost entirely short wheelbase cab--overs, with semi-trailers using axles further forward and longer overhangs at the rear. I wouldn't say it necessarily makes it easy, but it does make it possible, to manoeuvre in many tighter confines than those roads. We do get the occasional jam like this, but generally, it takes something like a hairpin bend or two semis encountering each other in opposite directions to cause one. Plus, we are used to it :-) The downsides include less space for a comfortable working environment for the driver and more tyre scrub on tight cornering, but it's pretty much inevitable when you allow that many of our roads were originally laid out in the middle ages, so we have to deal with what we've got!

We had a car hauler do that and take out a stop sign a couple years ago. Had the police chief and highway patrol. This way just up the road from where I live. This was in a residential area.

Mr Pratt you always do a great job even on the little outings. Gotta scratch my head about the truck driver. He should have known he wasn't going to make the corners.

Google Maps sat view has saved my butt more than once, I always refer to it before going down any unfamiliar rural roads or truck stops I have not been to before to make sure there is room to turn around. I pull doubles with pintle hook, so I would not be able to just back up down the road like that driver did, I can get a few yards but then the rear trailer goes where it wants, we have to be extra careful. Heck, we had 2 of our trucks crossing a one truck wide bridge at the same time from different directions, neither could back up so they had to call a wrecker to pull one out backward. The truck that was the furthest in was considered right of way so the other driver had to pay for the wrecker. Our company makes us pay for the wrecker if it is our screw up for mistakes like that or taking a wrong road with a dead end. I have been lucky so far. Heck when you work long hours it gets easy to make a small mistake like missing a turn or taking the wrong one, bad signage and gps do not help, You need to use GPS meant for trucking so you do not get down these kinds of roads.

Hate how sometimes truck GPS give you two options: 1) illegally go down a restricted road or 2) roll the dice and go through a residential area. The real problem is cities and municipalities aren't making these towns truck friendly at all. For those blaming the driver... you obviously never ran OTR National (every state in the continental United States) before. The struggle is real and most truckers cannot handle running National because it takes a special kind of person to pull it off day in, day out.
@Kunbal

Dude, come to Europe, then U can see a town which is no truck friendly :P
4 года назад
Here you will mostly go over some sign or ditch. In Europe there's quite often building right beside the road, no way of taking just a bit more space over the road. It's much easier to "rescue" the situation in US towns than in EU town.

SAMSUNG and RAND MCNALLY need to join forces and come out with a GPS. I have a SAMSUNG8 plus, the GPS rocks!! It just needs the commercial vehicle additions.
@gregparrott

Even Rand McNally is not especially up to date. A friend found an instance where their map showed a road crossing a river. But Google maps showed the same road dead-ending at both sides of the river, rather than actually crossing. The reality was that the bridge had been washed out 8 YEARS earlier and was never replaced.

Not Samsung it's Google's gps that should have commercial trucking/rv use as an option.

Hullo from Scotland. I know that you know what you're doing, but, I thought you'd made an error by putting the hook on the clevis pin. Although lighter, I did the same thing recovering my friends 4x4 out of a bog. Bent my pin/bolt, and, couldn't release clevis from the strop. Luckily, we eventually got the pin/bolt released, but, I couldn't use it again as it was bent. I've also found, that if someone can't be towed forwards, tow them backwards following their route in. Good job guys. You're such a helpful team. I doubt anyone else would have scouted out an alternative route to help the driver out. Keep up the good work.

I learned about sounding the horn with my uncle. He had a fifty foot yacht. When he would back out of his slip he had to warn others he was backing out! The yacht had two Diesel engines. If you want to make a sharp turn you would put one engine in forward and the other in reverse.
