Thank you, Don - it has been a privilege to be able to follow it and record the work of some really capable operators - and the weather Gods have smiled - thank goodness.

Mike, you do this in such an engaging way. Incredibly cool footage, this is really precision work

Thank you, Espen - just fortunate to have the time and resources to follow this historic event - it's very important that a record is laid down. Priestly will certainly produce a great record, but there is some merit to immediacy

I work with Both companies several times in my career….Great companies one that move anything ( Western) the other I always felt safe during there projects (Priestly Demolition Inc.)..Sad to see the old LaSalle Bridge going away

John - they have done an amazing job here in Kingston. Although almost everyone locally is saddened to lose such an iconic and historic piece of engineering, if it had to go, better at the hands of professionals..

What a crying shame. Such a beautiful and historic piece of Kingston. By the time demolition and replacement is done they could have just built a third (idiotic 2 lane bridge) across further down the river. The causeway draw bridge matched the historic RMC beside it.

Sadly, there was nothing they could do. One of the biggest concerns they had was that, even if they had done all the repairs, the bridge may have never been able to lift because of the misalignment caused by the structural failure. It was a gamble whether it could even be fixed.

I'm note sure any of us is in a position to know how things will go. It's sad to lose a very special bridge, but we must trust that the right decisions will be taken by those who have all the facts

Neat! Love that they used my idea to remove the bridge deck! Though not quite in the same way I was thinking. I was thinking they used some of those Mammoet lifters on a barge instead, but that works too.

I think that you should be looking for royalties - but maybe close enough to the idea was not sufficient. The engineering skill demonstrated has been really impressive

Those Chomping Shears are eating away at the Bridge as if it were made of Pick-up Sticks! Wouldn't want to be around it when cutting.

Absolutely - I find the way that they cut away structural steel quite intimidating - and impressive

What a drag it is when ppl destroy a 100 year old landmark by doing maintenance? And then no one is held responsible and the tax payer pays the bill. Not to mention the mess this has made of traffic, try getting an ambulance across the river and down town to our hospitals. And what is everyone concerned about? The Rideau canal being open to big boats, forget that, if you are too big to go under the existing fixed bridge then try another canal. This bridge should just be abandoned, leave the deck as is and raise the fixed bridge high enough for a reasonable sized boat to pass under. The hassle this causeway has been over the past 5 years as they close it every year or bring it down to 1 lane has been too much, get rid of it, we are too big a city for it now, just build a proper damn bridge here.
