Yes great tips! Your capsule is similar to mine, but I take linen pants not denim jeans. I’ve booked the Algarve in September and Mallorca in October, can’t wait. Happy holidays! ❤

Both are places lovely. Yes I usually take linen too that is a great choice. That is why I pack the steamer. Have a wonderful time and thank you for your comment.

Love the outfits and examples. I also really like when you show what you are wearing. So, this video in particular at the end, if not during, show the 3 tshirts and how your wearing them. Sure, it may go with both your linen pants and jeans you don't need to show both, hold up the other pants or if you're showing your pants, show the different tops; casual day, nice restaurant and what accessories do you use to make the outfit feel more or less casual. Love that you shared links! Thank you

I live in Sicily. Tourists stand out when going around with backpacks. Why not carry a hand or shoulder bag? Or, get a cheap and fun straw bag from a local market - some come with a zipped lining. Also, when walking around ancient towns, don't behave like you are at a beach resort. Even if the town has a beach, please show respect by getting dressed! No bare chests or bikini tops please. At least a t-shirt and shorts

Hi Marie, I have a leather one which is a lot more conservative. I know what you mean and think your comments are helpful to those visiting. There are so many more I could add but it would take hours! Thank you for commenting 😊

I find dressing smarter, casual office style, rather than casual tourist, and doing research on the place before arriving reduces the risk of pick pocketing and scams.

Hi Lynn, I agree on the research but entirely. This is why I wanted to make this video as I see a lot of misinformation regarding Europe and lumping it all together which is not great advice in my opinion. Sounds like you’ve got it nailed.

I agree. I like to dress in this style, or Smart Casual, everyday anyway. I must be the only one on my community who doesn’t just wear their gym outfit all day, everywhere, everyday, but I can’t stand those! It’s not just the sloppy look, it’s the hot, tight and sweaty polyester and Spandex! Not my idea of comfort, mine is a silk or linen dress.🙂

I pack a lightweight, soft, crushable (nylon?), washable, sun/rain hat, like those from Tilley (these are great for windy locations, they have an extra-strap design that really works, they are a favorite among us geologists, who need hats that really work). These can be rolled up into a handbag. If I want a more structured straw or wool, brimmed hat, I buy a locally-made one, they’re a pain to pack and usually get damaged. Plus, it helps local small manufacturers a bit. Just check the label, many are actually made in China then imported. Fine if traveling in China, otherwise, no. Avoid vinyl ones, as on Amazon, this plastic is super-hot, doesn’t breathe at all and the creases are permanent.

Again great advice. Waxed is good too as it is generally made from cotton.

Love your videos… I’m headed to Italy in the next few weeks… 2 dresses for sure, 2 pants, 2shells and linen blouse and jacket and my new brim hat… I never want to look like a tourist or look like an American. I’m excited to spend a few days in Rome on my own and then meet up with my cousins in Tuscany. Your tips are valuable as I’ve watched several, I’m working on my Pinterest colors… and realize the change in my complexion now that I’m letting my hair go silver. Thank you for all your valuable information.

Always be on the lookout in heavily tourist areas. I hear there is a heatwave there at the moment so definitely check the weather before you leave! have. a wonderful time I am so pleased you are finding it helpful.

I live in Australia but travel to the UK and Europe at least once or twice a year, usually for 2-3 months at a time. My standard summer packing list is 2 dresses, 1 jeans, 2 linen or cotton pants, 4 t-shirts, a lightweight wrap cardigan and 1 warmer fleece or cashmere sweater. Also a swimsuit and sunhat as I burn easily. Sometimes I’ll throw in a skirt and usually also add a micro puffy jacket (which I wore every day visiting family in Scotland this year in June - yes, I know it’s summer, but it gets worn every summer in Glasgow and I always regret not packing it). I’m always tempted to add more but always, always buy something. My other tip which you touched on, is to think about where you’re going and the colours you choose. This year I spent three weeks in the UK and three weeks in Athens, Corfu and Rome. I packed black linen pants but in Greece and Rome it was baking hot and I really needed my white linen pants - so I ended up buying a pair, along with a bright blue linen top and a bright multicoloured sarong. Colour is so important for a holiday capsule and cobalt (my best colour) always works in the Mediterranean. I had a bright blue t-shirt but linen is the best fabric when it’s hot. My bag is always heavier on the way home so my last tip is to leave room in your bag for things you buy along the way.

Hi Elly, if it is any consolation, I have been to Scotland three times. Each time apart from once I came home (south coast of England) glad of the warmer weather. For a tiny island it is crazy the difference in temperature sometimes so I do not blame you. I did have one trip where it was like 30 degrees and we drove through some of the most stunning scenery I have ever seen down through Fort William. Totally agree regarding the colours too. It sounds as if you have got it sussed!

My husband and I just went to visit my brother in Barcelona. We are from Sweden but have lived in Asia, I have lived in the US and we have traveled all continents. We are over 60 and never been pick pockeded either until this time. At the AirPort We took the train to go in to town and the theives skimmel the machin for the train ticket… then followed us into town on the train and in the middle of the escalater they stopped it and one of them ”helped” my husband carry his suitcase up while the other took his phone from his front pocket. About 15 min. after we stopped his credit card but as they had skimmed the mashine they had his code and had already taken out at least €1500. Now you always look as a tourist if you are carrying suitcases and are really different looking to people living there. We are both blond, blue eyed and do not speak spanish. I agree totally with what you are saying but there are certain things you can’t do anything about! Weather you have travelled alot or not.

I have a special travel bag. It’s a mid-size shoulder/cross-body convertible bag, has extra-secure, locking, zippers and a steel-cable reinforced strap. It’s very secure, but unfortunately it is nylon, and I much prefer a genuine leather bag. I chose it partly because it’s lightweight and compact, it has lots of space and compartments and it holds two standard water bottles, essential for hot-weather travel. I had to get a leather pad to make the strap comfortable on my shoulder, but now it works great. I think the brand is called something like TravelOn? I got a black version. It’s not chic like a designer leather bag, but those are just begging to be stolen. Keep a photocopy of your passport and driver’s license in your suitcase, just in case, it speeds up getting replacements.

Not a fashion tip but one thing I try to avoid is if I'm in a crowded place like a subway or subway platform or a department store, in a country where English isn't the first language, I avoid speaking to my husband loud enough that anyone can hear us speaking English.

In addition to the current conditions, I also look at the climate averages for my travel locations, especially for longer trips. Weather can change quickly, but each month, conditions will likely be in a general average range. I don’t know why Londoners, and the British in general, are so obsessed with the rain. My hot Mediterranean climate actually gets twice the average rainfall that London does, but it is more predictable - none in summer (which defines this climate, dry summers). We Americans just don’t talk about the weather nearly as much as the British do, there’s nothing we can do about it, anyway. The only weather that bothers me is those Mediterranean heat waves of 40C and up, it’s downright dangerous to be out in that kind of heat. Nearly our whole summer so far has been this hot, with three more months of it to go. It won’t reliably cool off to 25C or so until November. My all-linen summer wardrobe and ice water is my way to deal with it, and staying out of the heat of the day. I get up at 4 am every day and get as much done as I can early. I don’t know why everyone goes to Europe in the summer months, the crowds are always terrible and the heat usually is, too.
@capsuleclosetstylist
@capsuleclosetstylist Месяц назад
Yes I do not travel to the med until autumn it is much better then. I think the reason why we talk about the weather so much is because we can have four seasons in one day haha! But generally August is ok.

Thank you for this practical advice! I'd love to know your recommendations for packing for multiple climates in one trip. For example, I had a 3-week trip to northern Spain (temperate, sometimes rainy), mid/southern Spain (HOT) and Denmark (freezing, raining sideways). We didn't know the forecast past one week, temperatures were not as expected in some areas, and I ended up not using half of what I brought...yet needing to buy additional clothing. It was a mess! Suggestions?
@capsuleclosetstylist
@capsuleclosetstylist Месяц назад
Hello thank you for your comments. It really depends on the time of year. When are you referring to?
@dronningd
@dronningd Месяц назад
@@capsuleclosetstylist This was last fall, but I've done this trip at different times of the year and it's always the same story. Spain will range from 12-25 degrees in the north (sometimes overcast and damp, sometimes quite dry and hot) to 16-35 in the middle and south (sometimes dry, sometimes humid). Denmark is maybe 10-20, generally windy & rainy. Plus the environment ranges from hiking in the mountains to going to the beach or walking all over a city and going to museums. I never know how to pack!
@capsuleclosetstylist
@capsuleclosetstylist Месяц назад
Ok in this case I would definitely go for layers. There will likely be a reasonable different in climate in those two countries at that time of year. I would pack dresses that can be worn on their own or with tops or shirts underneath and then a few base layers in thin but warm fabrics like merino wool. Walking shoes /boots and then some sandals like birkenstocks.

I was robbed in Milan and didn't even know it until I reached the restaurant and put my bag up on the table. First: make sure to fill out a police report, 2. plan on spending a day at your country's embassy to replace your passport, 3. forget about it and have a good time. I was standing at a crosswalk waiting for the light to change when a fellow came up beside me with a big, blaring music blaster. Of course I could not hear zippers and rummaging at my back. They're good, but what a very sad way to make a living. Travel is the next best thing to ice cream!
