Iskall plays some geoguessr, because he is omega addicted lol Follow me live on twitch: / iskall85 Follow me on X: @iskall85 My main channel: / iskall85
With Australia, it is a little tough, because nearly all our road signs, signals, lines, and poles are nationwide. It is easier to work out based on how green it is, the soil colour, and the often tree types. Sydney and Melbourne are very similar architecturally, with Sydney climate slightly warmer and hillier. Adelaide is slightly drier, and less green. Most of the city is flat except the outer part. Perth is quite windy, and has less vegetation than the east. Its soil is a bit more sandy as well. Brisbane is heading towards a more tropical climate. Hobart is boring, small, and just a massive mountain on one side, and a large river splitting the city in half. Its also colder, so darker green vegetation. Darwin is just humid, red, with a tropical climate. The more red the dirt, the closer you are to the center of the country. The only places even close to the colour of ouf center is in brazil and northern south africa/botswana. And lastly, 90% of our population live on the east coast, with Sydney and Melbourne taking up about 45% of that. Melbourne is more a harbour looking city, whilst Sydney has a more beach vibe
Texas’ roads look like that because the tar boils too easily so we tend to have a gravel topper. Especially for the highways. I have actually had tar stick to my shoe from walking on my residential road. Wasn’t even like they had recently redone the road. It was just hot. 😂
9:42 I've never been more excited than to see a shopping plaza in PA Ive been to before. I saw the AMC and instantly invoked memories I completely forgot about. Every shopping plaza here has some weird styling to it, but we love it
20:08 wait until you learn about Oxford Ohio that has a college called Miami University and is mentioned specifically in The Office and is the most bland town you could imagine
I’m really enjoying these and as a graduate of the University of Mississippi, I was jumpscared seeing it pop up. For the record, Oxford, Mississippi was named after Oxford, England, because they wanted to build the university there. Oxford England donated a red double decker bus and a British phone booth.
For help with the US and east coast vs west coast, look at the trees. You will see more deciduous trees (the ones with the leaves that fall off) on the east coast and more coniferous trees (needles) on the west coast. Unfortunately all shopping centers look about the same everywhere in the US, with the same shops so usually that won't give you much info.
I find it hilarious that the locations taken for Singapore is landed property. (I'm guessing even the thumbnail's pic is of SG.) I guess it makes sense when around the world people live in houses. Property houses here tend to have gates with walls, narrow roads, oh and blue and green bins. (That's for the ones I've seen anyways.)
12:48 The reflectors between the double yellow line: We have those a lot in Ohio, so they're not unique to The South. I would've guessed they're used all over the US.
Listened to this late at night and it was super comforting actually. The background music along with your voice that always manages to calm my usually overexcited brain. Thank you Iskall :D
Saying you're not great at it, and yet you do more in 7 seconds than I can do in like 5 minutes while moving around looking for signs!! You're SO fast at this and I love when you explain what you saw that made you pick that area.
So you know for future times, we have the reflectors on the road here in Washington state too, so there’s at least one state that’s not southern that also uses them just in case you’re ever on one where that kinda throws you for any reason!
I love geoguesser as well :) i was thinking when you doing the charity stream that you so lucky to get to travel to see friends in a different country, only to end up in.....detroit..... 😂😂
I noticed in the Texas location the road had "I-20 Frontgage Road" superimposed. Our interstate highways follow a pattern that might be helpful to know. Even numbered interstates run east-west and increase in number value south-north. Odd numbered interstates run north-south and increase in number value west-east. Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico also have interstate highways and those begin with the letters A, H, and PR respectively.
I dont usually watch your non-hermit videos but i did this time.. I am Malaysian and the thumbnail also gave me malaysian vibes, which lead me to watch this.. im quite proud and surprised your first confident guess there was somewhere Malaysia. caught me off guard too that it was singapore.
I've seen a number of people play geoguessr. This is legit the first time i've seen somewhere near where I live as a guessable location. Kind of wild to see someone have no idea when I immediately recognized it.
The spot in Washington looks to be a town called Raymond. Looks like you can see the top of a lumber mill in the background. I think I recognize the little church.
I noticed in both Singapore rounds that there were blue and green bins, along with green road signs. I've lived in Malaysia for 4 years and similar to Singapore, there's a lot of gated communities, so be sure to look out for that stuff. Also, the person walking the dog in the Singapore round did look like your 'average' Australian, so keep that in mind too.
So I never understood why people liked to play geoguesser but I have to admit since I've been watching you play it's been growing on me, I especially liked this video because you explained your thoughts more. Also you say you're bad at the game but to me it certainly looks like you're at least pretty decent 👍.
Crazy how good Iskall is at this, I didn't correctly guess any of these, I've never played Geoguesser or really traveled at all I don't know anything without landmarks that are well known
Another detail about that one in Argentina: there was something along the road that looked like some kind of mile marker. Those are always little vertical signs in the US.
For future reference, you used the road reflectors as an indicator of being southern US, but they aren't unique to any region or anything. I wouldn't use them as a reference :)
if that's any help, at 22:13 the little white and yellow thing actually has the road name (or, well, its number) on it, you could have easily looked for the D155 (the d stands for départementale, so it's country side road number 155)
Iskall you're very good at this. I used to play a lot and tried to note down things I noticed which gave me different answers from you. Feel free to disregard but maybe they'll help you a little bit. Trees in particular can give a lot of info about how cold an area gets and sometimes can be enough to narrow down to a particular region immediately. Color of the plants is also a big indicator and I can't put my finger on why exactly but plants usually can tell me if it's near the coast. With dirt there are only a couple of regions where the dirt is red and visible so make a note of it when you see it. Lastly, I've found a lot of success with the sky having a rift in it. The only two places I've seen with a rift in the sky consistently are Senegal and North Macedonia. Looking at the sky to determine if the sun is in the North vs the South can also be helpful to identify northern vs. southern hemisphere but might not be worth it often with only 40 seconds.
As an average American, I am absolutely terrible at geoguesser. But having researched a Japanese character from Fukuoka, I knew English was a big language in the area, explaining the English sign. So I actually guessed that one correct, but got the rest completely wrong 😂
2:39 with the harbor and sea references on the businesses, the coast would have been a better guess and bigger mountains/hills would probably indicate more west coast than east coast.
yeah here in washington those are only hills! the mountains are much taller, (they must be hidden behind clouds or houses in the photo). i live in seattle and was actually tempted to to choose california for that one, as those hills look mostly the same during the entirety of the northern-pacific and i've seen them more south in california. it's weird how different rural areas look because of having such few trees and wide lawns.
I can't believe I guess Islay correct 😂 Even though I have been there, there was no clues apart from maybe Scotland and I just had this feeling that was it!
You're really good, that's crazy! Just have to say tho, I'm from brazil, and uh, we really don't have palm trees besides the coast XD The area you picked is known for big plantations or the "pantanal" biome, which is lots of swamp like areas, the north is mostly amazon forest besides big cities, the north east is very dry besides the coast, south east and northen part of the south look more like that place at 16:00. The very south has a lot of very characteristic trees of the region called "araucária".
Haha that washington one was a hill not a mountain. The mountains you were pointing at all have year round snow the one in the picture was bairly a bump in comparison! But dang your good at this!
I'm not an Aussie, but I've been led to understand that Melbourne is pronounced "Melbone" So drop the R and you'll have it right. (Or, if you don't believe this comment, just ask Pearl!)
Laste one Israel, in your original picture you also saw blue-white flags. In the recap you didn't get the flags. But yeah the hebrew makes it very easy
Sometimes he is referring to the side of the car the driver is sitting and not the road. The guess that was France near the beginning he said they are driving on the left, but he put his cursor on the driver as he said it.
Of course you keep doing what you have fun with (as in this comment is not telling you what to do just feedback) but for me personally from an entertainment point of view, I would enjoy it without time limits, if you take your time to think through I think it would be the most fun. (Again at least for me)
