Iskall plays GeoGuessr! First time in public in a very long time. Follow me live on twitch: / iskall85 Follow me on X: @iskall85 My main channel: / iskall85
This is so impressive, Iskall. One input I can give you with Canada is that our street signs can be green or blue and is not indicative of the area of the country at all. British Columbia has blue signs, Alberta has green signs, Saskatchewan has blue and green signs, even in Ontario in different cities they will have green or blue. And the Maritime Provinces don’t seem to have any rhyme or rhythm either. Nova Scotia has green signs, Newfoundland has blue signs, Prince Edward Island has green signs.
As an (unfortunately) life-long Missourian, those yellow and white signs at 30:00 are a signature indicator that you are in Missouri, lol. The Missouri Department of Transportation (MODoT) places them EVERYWHERE, especially when road work is happening or about to happen, lol. Missouri drivers are weird and are most likely to pay attention to signs with those colors according to a relatively-recent poll on the matter, or so I have heard. Prior to about 2021, those signs were not used, I believe.
I'm crying I knew the place around 17:30 My dad used to work in that part of the city we live in lmfaoo it's so funny seeing a place you know in real life somewhere like this.
43:01 I'm adding little knowledge here - this yellow sign - it is know as Little Agatha and I think it is used only in Poland (?) - its basically telling "school nearby"
This is really impressive. Do you have all this knowledge just from playing this game, or are you a traveler, or maybe did you watch all the movies/videos from every country? If someone would ever drive you blindfolded to any place in the world, you would probably just say: "Yup, this is >that< country." And me in the same situation would be like: "Yup, this is earth... I think... probably..."
Thank you! I used to travel a lot in Europe when I had a job, but now days not so much, but Ive always enjoyed geography, and I have played GeoGuessr in the past, but its been a while :D
A bit of insight for 50:49. What I think for that particular spot, I deduce it with a geological approach. In the UK, if the road is so dark, that could mean the aggregates used in the asphalt are basalt or other igneous rocks. Scotland and Northern Ireland are pretty much the places with a lot of basalts, while in Wales and England basalts are uncommon.
A note from a yank about yellow license plates. We drive. A lot. Also many states offer multiple styles of license plate, which may be in different colors. Virginia, for example, has multiple yellow plates. (Virginia has the widest variety of alternative plates on offer last I looked, so that's not really indicative of the whole country)
Wow, I'm decently surprised with how good you are. Knowing pole meta and lines and all that stuff means you've actually played geoguessr quite a bit. Maybe we'll match on duels someday :)
I loved this, especially the Washington round because you zoomed in on the zip code, said i think its Washington, and then looked around and said its not mountainous enough
That’s so funny. The second I saw the first frame for 13:07, I knew it was Cambodia Ankor Wat. Ive been there a few times when I was younger and literally every Cambodian has a huge picture of it in their house. Iskall is right tho, it’s usually more wet and humid.
on the red and white signs in france, the signs signalling the entrance of a town/city are white with red border and general signs are blue, directional signs are often white
7:04 I have to ask. how on earth do you know that the powerline poles in Mexico are octagon shaped!?!? unless you worked as an electrician fixing powerlines in Mexico. or did you travel to Mexico on vacation and saw the poles and being like Oh! fascinating! these are shaped like an octagon! xD
It is... I looked at the UK ones and thought they could be anywhere in Yorkshire, where I live, but they equally could be right up to the Scottish Border or right down to the South Coast. We are pretty homogeneous!
Man I miss GeoGuessr, like back in 2020 I would hangout with friends online cause of the pandemic and we'd just spend like 2 hours or so doing one game of GeoGuessr but we'd get like max points cause we'd find the exact position we're in.
Wow I did not expect Iskall to have such world knowledge. A tip about the Sun because it tripped you up: if the Sun is north, you are not necessarily south of the equator. But you are south of the tropic of cancer. If the Sun is south, you are north of the tropic of Capricorn. It can make the sun very misleading at times because sometimes, which way the sun is at is dependent on the time of year. For instance if you were directly on the equator, the sun would be in the north during the middle of the year and would be south at the beginning and end of the year.
This is super impressive. I would love more videos like this, this is good as heck content. I’m a noob at geoguesser so I don’t know the meta, but any time I watch a movie I try to identify where it’s filmed, and in the US, you can basically only go by the trees/grass. It’s the only variation we have!
i'm so sorry you got to see probably one of the worst parts of washington, i didn't recognize my own state! weird how you were angled to not be able to see any of the mountains. what might have given it away was how green the grass all way, when it rains our grass is very happy but i'm sad at how flat it was there
32:40 you can always tell Missouris highways because the rumble strip to let you know you are about to go off the road is on the line. Every other state in the US has the rumble strip a couple inches off the line.
41:24 I knew it was Texas instantly because of the Texas Turnaround which for some reason, is only really universally used in Texas. it is that highway off and on ramp that will go down to a U-Turn lane on the frontage/service road. It is horrible when I go up north and I miss an exit and then gotta drive another handful of miles just to route back.
This stream was the first one I've seen from ANY hermit. I was raided from hermit to hermit, seeing the server from more 'within' yknow? Hermits I've never given a chance I learned where very chill. I fell asleep and got passed around like a puppy😁 And somehow found JONO whom makes Hermitcraft music (theme songs and such). Good tunes! Check it out everyone!
I was watching this stream and it’s mad impressive how you seem to know the poles, light posts and car plates of so many different countries. I was just going off vibes when guessing.
One thing I realised when playing Geoguesser, Turkey is very easy to guess as a country bc the language or the random Turkish flag almost always gives it away. The location is not always easy though. (Fun fact: I was once dropped in the middle of a street that I passed many times on my way to go shopping. That location was easy to guess lol)
"Wisconsin, in the photos I've seen, has a lot of cracked roads" lmfao. I live in Wisconsin, it would take about 2 and a half hours to drive to where that photo was taken, so yeah, you're telling me iskall! (it's very true our roads are freaking terrible)
hahaha, the Brisbane guess amused me - i live here and it couldn't have be LESS Brisbane 😂 also for future reference, while australia does have native palms, they're very popular and people plant them in the DUMBEST locations. also, street signs in Brisbane are almost uniformally white ^_^
I loved the readable city sign in France (rectangular, red around white), TELLING YOU you were like 300m out of (if I read correctly) Beaumont-sur-Sarthe. That's near Le Mans and you could have looked around the map for this village
That first round hurt when he put the dot straight on the middle of Houston and then Austin which are like the exact opposite of the area lmao. I was surprised guessing New Mexico and being correct
17:28 Because no matter how much we like to tout "Buy 'Murican'!" we have this fascination with all things foreign. Plus it's usually cheaper and better quality!
I have lived near where the Washington guess was and near where iskall placed the marker that round in Wyoming. They look like basically different planets.
