The song in the middle(Makin' My Way) is an inside joke. Many, many years ago during a stream, Marisha was describing her character's action and said "and I start making my way back." Travis responded by singing the beginning of the opening riff to the Vanessa Carlton song, A Thousand Miles("Making my way downtown...") and most everyone else joined in. It became a running gag that whenever anyone said "making my/his/her/its way", half the cast would immediately sing "making my way". Well, sing is a bit of a strong term for what they eventually started doing. lol This ... went on ... for years. So Sam(being the little trickster god he is), wrote the song and secretly worked with Ashley(and later Laura) to record it for the show; not telling as many of the group as they could get away with so it would be a surprise. And that's how we got the song. lol

I saw "7 unavailable videos hidden" just before you released this in the playlist. I assume that means you speedran through the rest of the series already. I hope you loved it! I can't wait to see the rest, and s3 is only a week and a half away!

Love that they got Billy Boyd (Pippin in 'The Lord of the Rings') to voice Garmelie, and Cheech Marin to voice Vex's hallucination of Trinket.

Seeing the dragons again is making me so excited for Season 3 man, and it seems you guys are going to finish s2 in time for it so can't wait to see your reactions as well.

The little birb at the beginning was based on Matt and Marisha's bird Daegon. Unfortunately the bird passed sometime between the scene's creation and the broadcast, so they had a little shock during the premiere.

A lot of cursed items in D&D require specific spells like Remove Curse or Greater Restoration to even just let them go. Probably very inspired by the One Ring.

Inspired by The Lord Of The Rings? It would be hard to overstate just how much Dungeons and Dragons was inspired by Tolkien.

The Fey Realm isn’t the spirit realm, so the plants and such aren’t spirit, they’re just…Fey. Think faeries and such. That realm is full of absurdity, danger, and wonder.

Percy said to project positive thoughts at the plant, then Vax went in all grumpy and emo and got attacked. Then gets mad at Percy for it. It's almost like that's not Percy's fault and it's about something else lol.

Fun fact, the bird torn apart at the beginning was actually representing matt and marishas bird who passed away before production finished... They completely forgot about that scene and since they are loveably morbid when that scene came up they both died laughing 😂

Vex, without Scanlan they'll have less Dick Joke. they then proceed to run into Garmile.

It was a really good tripping scene, and a fairly light episode. Which is nice because so much of this series is rather heavy and dark. (But enjoyably so.) [Of course, Everything is heavy for Grog right now.]

Craven Edge and Grog were together a lot longer and their interactions were a lot of fun in the campaign. There was a lot of Craven Edge trying to corrupt Grog and Grog just not noticing because his intelligence is so low, plus Grog frustrating Craven Edge with stupid questions like “Do you have a female setting?” among others

Garmelie is a walking pun. In Greek theatre, after the tragedy is over, a second performance is done. These typically made fun of the previous performance. They were known as “satyr plays.” The concept actually lives on as satire. So, in essence, he’s a satirist satyr! In the campaign, the had no idea how to destroy Craven Edge. Instead, they threw it into a pocket dimension, one of which, they were the only ones left to know about. That’s right, in the streamverse, it’s in some alternate reality, festering and angry.

7:08, well, Campaign 3....

Dungeons and Dragons was originally inspired by a lot of Lord of the Rings stuff (the books) And cursed magic items were a part of D&D from the beginning, I believe coming from the curse of the ring. Craven's Edge is a Matt Mercer creation, but is not entirely uncommon for an example of cursed weapons.

Craven Edge is a cursed once you attune to it is extremely difficult to break that bond it has been a while but in the campaign i believed it actually killed Grog to breaking it.

Your reactions to vox machina have been my absolute favorite to watch! I can tell you guys really enjoy it and are invested. It reminds me of way back when I watched the first campaign of critical role. I look forward to every new episode and I can’t wait to see what you think of season 3!

I need to see both an art book of Garmelie’s sketches, and even video of the actual artists drawing those sketches, there’s no way they weren’t laughing their asses off drawing them🤣🤣🤣🤣. And the whole mushroom trip that Vex and Keyleth went through was both hilarious and awesome, and me being a fan of Dragonball Z Abridged I immediately said “I hoped they packed their bags, because their about to *go on a trip* ….”. Also loved that they got Cheech Marin as Trinket, though I would’ve added that he was playing the sitar that they always play when you see when someone is tripping.🤣🤣🤣

The Fey realm is life and emotions cranked up to 11, where a strong will often is enough to affect the land around you, unless it is part of an archfey's domain. If it is part of an archfey's domain, they control the land. For example, there are the Courts of the Seasons and the Seelie and Unseelie courts. In the domain of Autumn court it is always autumn, because the archfey ruling that domain wills it to be so. The Seelie court's domain is often, but not always, reflecting the mood of its ruling archfey as well. If she's happy the weather is sunny, if she's sad it's raining, if she's feeling thoughtful it might be a night sky with a few clouds. It's also why the environment reacts negatively to Vax'ildan. The Matron of Ravens and her domain the Shadow realm (to use the legally distinct name of the Shadowfell) is the antithesis of the Fey realm. Life vs Death. The situation with Craven Edge and Grog resolves a bit differently in the animation compared to the campaign. For one thing, it is impossible to destroy a magical weapon like Craven Edge in game terms with raw muscle power. It does make for a stronger and more connected developments of Grog's character though, and I like how they handled it. :) Grog loosing most of his muscles was Craven Edge trying to fatally drain him before Grog could kill it. It almost succeeded, but not quite.

Welcome to the Fey Wild! (or Fey Realm, both work). In D&D there are multiple planes of existence. We've been on the Material Plane, typically thought of as the Mortal Realm. The Fey Realm is sort of the layer directly "above" ours and is a realm of pure life in all it's chaotic form. That cute little bird thing that gets brutally killed at the start? Kind of a dark but funny story behind it. Matt Mercer (the DM, voice of Sylas Briarwood and Umbrasyl in this show) and Marisha Ray (Keyleth) are married in real life but have no kids, instead having different pets. One of their pets was a small parakeet called Dagon (Day-Gone, named after the character Mehrunes Dagon from the Elder Scrolls series of games). When this episode was in production, they thought it would be funny to their messed up sense of humor to have their pet bird be recorded for the voice of the creature that gets eaten here. Spur of the moment choice while recording and they moved on with things, totally forgetting they did that. Flash forward to when the episodes actually were done and the season was coming out and sadly Dagon had passed away during that time. It was super sad, the community mourned, and we were moving on from it when the cast did their watch party of the episodes as they dropped. The instant this episode started up both Matt and Marisha had this moment of realization when they remembered what happened and now they had to hear their IRL dead bird get killed in the show. Fortunately they still thought it was funny but more so now. They effectively immortalized their beloved pet by putting him in the show... and having him get eaten. Taliesin Jaffee, the player/voice of Percy said that one of the inspirations for how excited Percy is here is that he's playing him like someone SUPER into anime finally getting the chance to go to Japan and realizing the real thing doesn't live up to the expectations in his head. "Maybe it attacks dark beings and he's a part of the Raven" is exactly it. The Fey Realm is a realm of eternal, chaotic, endless life. Vax is the champion of, and wearing the armor associated to, the Goddess of Death. The two are as incompatible as it's possible to be. Percy's glove was seen very briefly in a blink and you miss it moment at the end of Season 1. As with all Percy's inventions it has an ironic name. He calls it Diplomacy and it functionally is the same thing as Asami's shock glove from Korra. With the loss of The List (his Pepperbox pistol that was cursed), Percy in the game had lost his only magical weapon since it had two of the six barrels enchanted to do magical damage. Retort, his current pistol, only does normal damage, so he needed a way to do magical attacks in some situations. Diplomacy was his solution, allowing him to do electrical attacks to targets in melee. Garmilie! The second of the Lord of the Rings Hobbits to join the cast! Archie from Season 1 was voiced by Merry's actor, now we have Pippin's here. That just leaves Frodo and Sam's if they keep getting all the Hobbits the way we hope they are. The song that Scanlan and Pike sing during their moving the weakened Grog (and the one Vex sings in the end credits) are the result of a long running joke in the game. During the 2nd Campaign (this is Campaign 1), the players began quoting the Vanessa Carlton song "A thousand miles" whenever someone said the line "Making my/your/their way". At first they would sing the whole verse and as it continued happening more and more it was shortened down until it just became someone chiming in "Mmmmakin' my way!" in the background when someone said the line. So when they came up with the idea to have a song be here, they used the joke as the inspiration for their own song, "I'm Making My Way". Like I said, long and convoluted running joke winding up in the show.
