On today’s episode, we chat with Christina Llerena, a Former Admissions Reader at UC Berkeley and UC Santa Cruz. Christina and I discuss the University of California system and its 10 campuses across the Golden State. Christina reveals what goes on behind the scenes in a UC admissions office and how students can snag a spot at a top school like Berkeley.

i think the most important takeaway i got from this particular former admissions officer interview that is unique to the application process for the UCs is that they actually don't want you mention a specific school whereas other universities absolutely do want you to be specific about the college you're applying to. from my understanding the application for the UCs is all under one so mentioning one specific UC that you want to attend is seen as taboo and can negatively impact your application

If you have two college educated parents and are white or Asian the best way to get a UC degree is transfer from a community college. When the Eligibility in the Local Context (ELC) students flunk out, you are more likely to transfer in than get admitted straight from high school. It also saves you money.

If you only apply to one UC as your only choice, is it still tacky to mention the specific university?

when ucs are test blind does it mean that they don't consider ACT/SAT at all? Or do you think they still look at the scores
@jaslavie

not at all. its pointless to take the act or sat unless you are applying to a private or out of state school
