I am moving to San Patricio, in the state of Jalisco, on the Pacific coast on June 1st to retire...I'm 61 (And Gay), from Dallas, Texas, and have never travelled past the border towns and do not speak fluent Spanish...Your videos have been inspirational to me for months now...I have to connect through Mexico City to fly there, so your "Customs & Visa" info is very helpful...It would be amazing if you guys came to San Patricio to make a video, and maybe meet there...Keep up the Great Work guys, I have looked forward to every Thursday since February to check Y'all out...Your good nature and humor is very INFECTIOUS!!

That airport is the worst. They took my carry on without my permission as I entering the aircraft. I put up a fuss and they told me not to worry. really!! Also, charged me $20.00 USD for my carry on with a few items in it. My ticket was for free carry on. No problem going into Puerto Vallarta but coming back they went through everything and very rude. Avoid That airport.😔🥸BOO

I was just in Merida for 5 days and fell completely in love with the city. The people are extremely nice, helpful, and willing to share information. It was my trial run as I wanted to see if I would like the city, and definitely, thoroughly , and without a doubt ENJOYED IT IMMENSLEY ! I'm from San Antonio, Texas so I wasn't bothered by the heat or humidity , as much as I thought I would. I plan on retiring there next year so I am putting my ducks in a row so that I can accomplish my goal. Restaurants to visit are Olivo, Micaellas, Rosas y Chocolate, and Cafe Creme. The airport in Mexico city can be frustrating and at times very confusing. They changed my gate number 3 times so I was running back and forth which allowed me a better concept of the lay of the land. I always allow myself at least 3 hours for the layover and this is based on my trips to Europe. Anyway, glad you guys are back and look forward to another great video. Keep up the good work, hasta luego!

@@2hvnfun Hey, how exciting! In Dallas you have to email your docs to the Mexican Consultate first. They want 1. Proof of income, a letter from your employer stating how long you worked there and your annual pay, 2. 6 months of pay stubs or bank statements, 3. a copy of your passport. All should be in 1 file that is color in PDF format. 4. Once you get your appointment, go with your passport and a passport photo from Walgreens. They review your docs again, interview you on why you want to go to Mexico and have you pay $44. They attached the Visa to your passport and then you can leave. It took about 2 hours for me. Different states have different income requirements but from what I can tell, the required paperwork is about the same. Good luck with yours!

Lots of wonderful Mayan "Ruins" to see on the Yucatan peninsula - Uxmal (close to Merida - a day trip), Chichen Itza (half way across the peninsula) and Tulum (on the Caribbean coast, south of Playa del Carmen). I did a road trip and visited all of those within a few days (well, I rented a car and spent a week doing it, but moved slowly, spent 3 or 4 nights each in PdC and Merida, one night in Chichen Itza). The sites are amazing. I think Uxmal was my favorite because it's the least crowded with tourists, so you have it more to yourself, but Tulum is the most beautiful - on cliffs overlooking the beach. Have fun!

Chichen Itza isn't halfway across the Peninsula by any stretch. Three large Mexican States, all of Belize and much of Guatemala make up the Peninsula. Also there are thousands of Mayan sites, many far better for a visit with no crowds than the standard RU-vid checklist, which is lame...

@TravelWTravis

We've heard that! When you say "easy" though, the last time we checked you had to have $30K USD in your bank account for a full year - has that changed?? Travis tried to apply before we left last year but was turned away because of that requirement - let us know if we're missing something!
@mariagkok4me

@@TravelWTravis no, that does sound about right, however, requirements are very different from one consulate to another. I recommend you go on a FB page for expats, like Chapala expats, or Moving to Mexico expats, there is a ton of information on which cities are more friendly and have lesser requirements. Las Vegas, Laredo and El Paso appear a lot in searches as the best and easiest places to get residency. This is what I found : Investments ~$35,425 US / $45,000 C (5000 days x minimum wage 141.70) with 12 months of individual statements, or Monthly income ~$2125 US / $2700 C (300 days x minimum wage 141.70) employment or pension showing 6 months of bank statements. Check out Soniadiaz.mex site, she has great info. Good luck you two. I really can't imagine you re going to want to come back and live in the US after living in Mexico for an extended period.

I've always enjoyed your videos! I just came upon this one. My wife and I are going to be moving to Puerto Vallarta in the next 6 months. We are going to be doing the 6 month tourist Visa and doing a Visa run in 6 months. My question is this: Is it difficult to get a small amount of belongings ( 4 boxes, 5 musical instruments, 3 computers ) into Mexico? I keep reading that you must have at least a Temporary Residency to get through. Any insight? And, hoping you folks are doing well!
@TravelWTravis
@TravelWTravis 4 месяца назад
Sorry - just seeing this! Two things: it's become harder to get the full 180 day tourist visa since we made these videos (three years ago - wild). It seems to depend on where you fly into; I'm not sure about Puerto Vallarta, so I'd check the local expat Facebook groups (which can be harrowing, so brace yourself) to see what people's experiences have been recently. That's also a great place to ask about brining a bunch of stuff, because I do know if you have a ton of boxes/bags and are saying you're there as a tourist, it can get dicey. But good luck and enjoy PV!!

There is no minimum amount of time you have to stay out of Mexico, you can turn around and come right back in. BUT...after AMLO became president, all the immigration systems were updated, so officials all across the country have access to the information about your comings and goings. If it looks as though you are living here permanently, or making a Mexican income, they can deny you access. AND it's happening more and more often. And getting residency became much more financially difficult in January of 2020 when the Mexican minimum wage went up from 102.68 pesos/day to 122.22 pesos/day. -Anne

I wonder if there are certain red flags that immigration looks for that would cause them not to give 180 days (other than being in a bad mood, lol). It would be good to hear from some of those people it happened to...like did they get asked certain questions, had they done several short border runs before, etc. I would hate to run into that situation if it could be avoided. I hope you went somewhere with cooler weather...maybe Oaxaca? Guadalajara is great but I was glad to leave yesterday when it was going to be 95 degrees. A dry heat, yes, but there's no AC anywhere, unfortunately...
